Heading back to MA in a few weeks. Hope we can stop at the Florence SC Bucs. The past few times it’s been so crowded it was bumper to bumper at the 95 exit.
Well most people rave about the jerky. Did you get the fresh jerky or the bagged stuff?Stopped at one OTW home from Charleston, SC. Its like cross between a smaller Bass Pro/Cabellas and a WaWa/Royal Farms/Sheetz. Beef Jerky was terrible which came as a shock given the size and selection.
I did pick up a super dope picture/painting of a whisky and cigar.![]()
Fresh. Ain’t cheap either. We tossed it. My dog wouldn't even eat it. Lmao
I’d say that maybe we got a bad batch but she got a few flavors.

Curious what it was about the jerky that you (and your dog) disliked. You mentioned getting several flavors and that not likely being the issue, so perhaps it was too tough? Or too dry? Were the pieces simply too large (the fresh jerky tend to come in really big pieces). Is there an over the counter brand that you like? I ask because I’m a really big fan of Buc-ee’s beef jerky, but understand that the product is different from some other brands. It’s also possible that the location you visited had subpar jerky, but their quality control and consistency across stores has been pretty good in my experience.
Edit to add: I like to get fresh jerky from the jerky bar but will usually use kitchen scissors to cut the strips up into bite size pieces (this obviously does not work if you’re buying for a road trip - in that instance, I’d buy the bags).
Nope.Is this a publicly traded company? Their stock is gonna go up for the foreseeable future
Don't sleep on batteries at Buc-ees. My parents were paying a small fortune for hearing aid batteries Buc-ees had them for about a quarter of what they were paying.
Sounds like we need a carpool NJ to Rockingham Cornhole trip ...... We could make a day of itWe stopped at the Florence location on our way down to Hilton Head back in August, and at the one in Rockingham VA on our way back. I had a certain expectation, and in some ways it met it, in some ways it didn't, and in some ways it beat it. The place was crowded, but I didn't have issues finding parking or gas. Lots of turnover in the spaces. The lines to check out were also long, but moved really fast at both locations. My comments in no particular order:
I'm a bit bummed that the nearest one (Rockingham) is a solid 5 hours from where we live in NJ, but I hope they keep working their way north. Someday they'll be closer. It was a great break for our 10-12 hour car ride from NJ to Hilton Head.
- Below Expectations
- The Jerky was meh. It wasn't bad, it wasn't good. They had a lot of flavors, but I've had way better even locally. Tried Lemon Pepper, Korean BBQ, and one other...Maybe my expectations were too high.
- The little flavored oyster crackers were WAY too salty. Tried Ranch and Chilli Cheese. Won't get those again and didn't finish what we got. Expected a nice unique snack, not a BP of 150/95.
- The Beaver Nuggets tasted like over-sweetened cereal. I liked the first handful of them, then they were just too much. The kids even stopped eating them after a bit.
- In-line with Expectations
- The Sours were decent. A bit too sweet. Not sure why they call them "sours," as they're just sweet. I'd get 1 bag again, but not stock up.
- The Beaver Chips were good home-made chips. Good serving, but again, nothing to write home about.
- The Potato Sticks were OK. Not the best flavors, and the serving size was pretty small.
- Fudge was fudge. If you're not picky, get pre-packaged. The longest line we waited in was for fudge.
- Exceeded Expectations
- The Poteet Strawberry White Texas Tea was fantastic. Got it at our stop on the way down, but it was sold out on the way back. I'd have gotten 2 bottles. Really really good.
- The merch overall was way better than expected. I ended up with a Stanley-style tumbler with the Buc-ee's Logo on it. Love it. Lots of cool clothing and stuff too. It's worth browsing.
- The bathrooms ARE all they're cracked up to be. Huge and fantastically clean.
- The Sour Power Candy Belts were great. I picked up 2 bags to stock up on the way back. Good, soft, sweet and a little sour.
- I didn't have any, but the kids/wife said the Banana Taffy was great.
- Lastly - the Brisket Sandwich. I got the chopped. Fricking amazing. Best Brisket Sandwich I've ever had. Great flavor, tender, good chunks of meat. If I had the stomach big enough, I'd eat 2. If they had one local, I'd eat one every week. So good. Best thing there IMO. I wanted to see if I could buy brisket by the pound just to take some with me.
As we should.Y'all in the South really care a lot about your bathroom cleanliness.
When you are on a 8+ hour road trip, clean bathrooms might be the #1 thing I care about and I live up northI've lived on the west coast my whole life so I am trying my best to understand this concept. I think I would love trying all the different foods available.

Humpty Hump tried to tell us…Yeah clean bathrooms are important. Even though I rarely get fast food I'll go to a McDonald's over a Burger King, partially because of the cleaner bathrooms.
God knows what's been going on in some of those Burger King bathrooms.
No it isn't and I'm thankful every day for that. There is no way the pay scale and benefits would be a thing if they had to answer to Wall Street.Location #1 coming to Florida next - Ocala and the State of Florida is working on the intersection where TurnPike dead ends into I-75
This one is going to be along I-75 just North of Ocala but they will clean up at this location, easy launch point the rest of the way up to GA and the mountains from there.
(2026)
Location #2 is Ft Pierce as I mentioned, this one is going in where I-95 and the TurnPike basically converge or run close to each other, many folks get off one major artery to get on the other
Again, this is a prime location and has not had anyone move in with the size or force of a Buc'ees, they will run everyone out of there quickly.

And you feel your job is secure?Yesterday the jerky case went down. One end was frozen at about 20 degrees and the other end was over 60 degrees. We had to toss over 4k in jerky along with a bunch of summer sausage and other things.
Oh I'm good. I was warning them for a couple of days and it all came out to the big boss that several supervisors were informed. Sorry you're having issues I hope they resolve themselves in the best way possible for you.And you feel your job is secure?Yesterday the jerky case went down. I'm just having fun
-It's not your fault but sometimes people in places of power like to blame certain folks
We're having a rough day at the MoPs today, after several years of work at home with not much recourse or future plans...suddenly this morning the plans have changed
I'm sure you can understand, no crying for the MoPs, we're blessed but we have hit a road block I think most would prefer not to deal with
I’m trying to convince Oz jr to take the team lead position they offered him but it would require going full time and he wasn’t ready to graduate community college. He will in December, so it might be a good path. I don’t necessarily think he’ll work his way to manage a store but kids can surprise us.Management is a younger man's game. They work those folks hard. And a team lead only makes 2.00 more an hour than I do which is the next step up. Now if I were younger and looking at the start of my career I'd be all over it. Store managers make very, very good money. 175k or so IIRC. But that takes a while and I hope to go part time when I hit 67. 5 years to go.
If you’ve met many southerners, especially in the summer, you’d appreciate the cleanliness.Y'all in the South really care a lot about your bathroom cleanliness
The one opening in 28 by HHI could become their top store. My biggest irritation on car trips now is having to wait 6+ hours to hit bucees on the way home from HHI.We stopped at the Florence location on our way down to Hilton Head back in August,
TIL, been a while since I drove that way. We're about a year away from having one in Mebane NC. Man, I am excited!
Once or twiceHave you ever had your picture with Bucky the Beaver?
Good to see you GB. It's been a long time. After my wife passed I moved to Tennessee to help out my elderly parents. What took you form Charlotte to Knoxville? Glad to see you back around these parts.
That stretch of I-95 leaving Georgia is already a mess. I get the decision though between I-95 travelers going to Florida and the HHI vacationers that store will be packed 24/7I’m trying to convince Oz jr to take the team lead position they offered him but it would require going full time and he wasn’t ready to graduate community college. He can stay at home and work if he wants, but in my dream world he’ll transfer to the one opening in Hardeeville, SC in 2028.
Oddly, it isn't awful. The employees are polite, and the restrooms are clean. Any other interaction is entirely up to you. This place sounds awful.
If I spend more than 12 minutes on a vacation gas/food/bathroom stop the family isn’t concentrating.

I am so sorry to hear about your wife.

I have been told by my wife that we will be stopping at the Rockingham, VA location on the way back from a soccer tournament this weekend. I hate crowds. I hate traffic. This seems fun.
No doubt. One of my favorite things in life is trying unique foods from distant locations that I secretly hope end up being the best thing I've ever eaten, and then dealing with the frustration of being unable to source it locally. You appear to be their target demographic. We stopped at the Florence location on our way down to Hilton Head back in August, and at the one in Rockingham VA on our way back. Upon re-reading this, it sounds very dubious.but like I said, the lines all move fast except the fudge line...
Yep. You could treat it like we do. We gas up, use the bathrooms and leave. My son is on the autism spectrum and gets overwhelmed by the rest of the store.Oddly, it isn't awful.
