Bucs looking for a QB (1 Viewer)

Jon Gruden plans to start Chris Simms but will be looking for a veteran backup, such as the Eagles' Jeff Garcia, the Broncos' Jake Plummer and the Vikings' Brad Johnson, when the free-agency signing and trading period begins Friday. The Texans have indicated David Carr might be available through a trade. Tim Rattay, 29, who played well in the final three games of 2006, is scheduled to become a free agent, and the Bucs have an interest in re-signing him.

I could see any of those guys challenging, if not beating out, Simms for the starting gig.
Both Garcia and Plummer could beat out Simms easily. It's no secret that Gruden isn't in love with Simms, plus you add the injury on top of that, you have a case for both Garcia and Plummer being the Bucs starting QB in 2007.

I agree for the most part, although if Gruden didn't like Simms, they probably wouldn't have re-signed him.My guess is that Gruden wants to see if the kid can regain the promise he showed a few years ago, and is giving him a mulligan for last year. But he's going to have to earn it...

Garcia has been discussed for several months now in Tampa...I'd say he's the leader.

Carr is the other name being talked about a lot in Tampa.

Plummer sounds interesting, but seems to be a tougher and more expensive get than Garcia.

Brad Johnson?? Gruden dumped him because his arm was toast...despite last year, can't see him coming back.

Garcia seems to be the best fit for what the Bucs are looking for (short term) and the offense Gruden runs.
