Build a FRANCHISE draft year 2 (1 Viewer)

How my team is shaping up through 10 rounds:

Offense:

QB: Russell Wilson

WR: Michael Floyd

LT: Jason Peters

RT: Bryan Bulaga

Obviously, we still need to address the offense. Getting a few more playmakers will go a long way here. Have my eye on a few RBs and there is still plenty of WR talent left.

Defense (3-4)

DE: Randy Starks

DE: Fletcher Cox

ILB: Dont'a Hightower

OLB: Justin Houston

CB: Dominque Rodgers-Cromartie

SS: Tyvon Branch

Really like where this defense is going so far. A rock solid group of DEs who are stout in the run game and can still rush the passer. I really believe Hightower will be a stud at ILB, but the real gem is Justin Houston at OLB. This guy is an absolute terror.

On the back-end, DRC is a top shelf corner. While maybe not a true shutdown, he's still really, really good. Branch is a playmaker at SS, who was maybe downgraded a little due to some injuries.

In this area, we will be looking for another OLB to pair with Houston as well as another CB to pair with DRC. Another position of interest will be slot corner which is becoming increasingly important in today's NFL.

Overall, this has been an interesting experiment. I feel like I've tried to build a balanced team, but more top shelf defense players seemed to fall in my lap.

It has been interesting as this is the first time Ive done something like this to see how I would've drafted differently knowing how far certain people fell. Im pretty happy with the Defense I have assembled but looking at spots like Lardarius Webb at 4.29 vs Leon Hall at 10.07, Terrell Suggs at 5.04 vs Ware/Cole/Mathis/Dumervil in the 7th, and Ezekiel Ansah at 3.04 vs Cliff Avril at 6.11. Just makes me think I could've had a similar D with and be in a much better spot on offense, but you live and you learn. Granted at each spot I feel I got the slightly better player when it comes to age/injury (although I didn't realize what a year Robert Mathis put together), but Im pretty certain Id be happier with swapping Ansah, Suggs and Webb for Avril, Mathis and Hall and a much stronger O, or perhaps even some safeties or something. Its been a fun learning process and I already feel like I want to do it again immediately and I haven't even made my 10th round pick yet.

I was going for a young offense, but Lynch just stood out there screaming value.

Sure, he turns 28 soon. I think he'll be really good for at least 2 more years - which I'll take for now.

It's impossible to tell what other drafters will do and trends will differ from draft to draft. Last year left tackles flew off the board early and often. This year, quality left tackles are available much later. Last year, drafters waited on receivers. This year they flew off the board early. The key is to stick true to your board and draft the best players.

seahawk 17 still has an outstanding pick for the Packers. It says he's been online today. I just sent him a PM.

Edit: ...Oddly enough, he made his 10th round pick but not 9th round pick.

The last three rounds I thought about Lynch for Carolina. He fits the run game idea perfectly. But then I kept thinking this: All RBs are basically the same. Put anyone behind a good line and they'll do well. I don't see much of a difference between Lynch and a lot of the other backs left behind the line I have assembled.

But he's a solid pick. I just kept considering him and having this nagging thought that the RB doesn't matter.

Ninkovich at 10.15? All day.

With my uber young squad, I needed some veteran presence, and Ninko fits that bill perfectly... Missed ONE game in the last 5 years.

My latest pick: Tim Jennings

although he's 30, he is also been to the pro bowl the past 2 years and was the lone bright spot on the bears last year. glad to pick up a pro bowl cornerback in the 10th round

If that were true, he wouldn't be one of the highest paid guys on his team. And the Colts wouldn't have traded a 1st in an attempt to get a top back - which seems to have failed, but that's on the player, not the position and actually shows that not all RBs are the same. That said, you hit on a reason I don't mind taking the elite production from an older guy and possibly draft a RB in a few years to take over when the time comes.

All along my plan was to wait and grab two corners back to back who would benefit from the pass rush generated by Atkins, Clowney (yes, I'm already predicting we'll take him) and Ayers. More corners went earlier than I anticipated but I'm very happy with Logan Ryan and Captain Munnerlyn (now the Panthers have to re-sign him) - two young guys who showed they can cover.

Team Update:

Houston:

QB - Griffin III, Robert

RB - Charles, Jamaal

WR - Decker, Eric

TE - Cameron, Jordan

C - Mack , Alex

LT - Kalil, matt

OLB/DE - Mathis, Robert

ILB - Dansby, Karlos

CB - Carr, Brandon

S - Cyprien, Johnathan

Offense: Love how this offense is shaping up so far; RG3 has great young weapons around him in Charles, Decker and Cameron. Mack and Kalil are great young building blocks on the O-Line at the 2 most important positions.

Defense: Although hes a bit older Mathis is a terror off the edge (18.5 Sacks, 7FF, 14 TFL last year), Dansby is a solid presence in the middle, Carr is my poor-mans's "lockdown" corner, and I love the ability Cyprien showed vs both the run and the pass in his first season.

If i can add a few more solid offense pieces I think this offense is a nightmare to stop; do you stack the box on Charles to try and shut him down? Then RG3 will have a field day picking your secondary apart with Decker and Cameron. Try and stop the pass; and Charles will exploit you on the ground.

Team Update:

Kansas City:

QB - Luck, Andrew

RB - Forte, Matt

WR - Hilton, T.Y.

WR - Marshall, Brandon

LT- Fluker, dj

DT- Williams, Kyle

DE - Peppers, Julius

LB - David, Lavonte

CB - Williams, Tramon

S - Whitner, Donte

Offense: Love the skill position players I have put around Luck, Marshall and TY should be a great 1-2 combo and Forte is a great all around back. Still need to secure some depth on the O-line. Fluker was arguably the best rookie tackle of the bunch last year and plays with a mean streak, I need to get him some help however.

Defense: D-Line is stout with Williams and Peppers (even if he is aging), Lavonte David is one of the best all around LB's in the league and still young, he can do it all. Tramon Williams and Donte "Hitner" give me a solid start to the secondary.

Playing Fluker at LT would be a big mistake. He was much better as a RT.

Or guard IMO.

Did someone draft Jordan Gross? Not at home so I can't check and just saw that he was retiring...

I feel bad for Instinctive although that's the risk you run when you draft older players.
Yeah that's a risk for sure. As well as serious injuries that some players never fully recover from. It's only for fun anyways so no biggie.
I'm seriously just gonna draft like he isn't retiring anyway. He's my LT. In our fantasy world, he isn't retired lololololol

Happy with Justin Smith in round 11 - I know he's old and my team is starting to look super ancient, but he went in round 2 in last year's draft. Hopefully, my entire team won't be one and done, lol.

No salary cap, offer him 100 million dollars a year.

@egoo / NYG - Great pick with Levy. Was hoping he'd stick around a few more rounds. Had a fantastic season last year and really was the MVP of the D. Was always surprised the Lions spent money on Tulloch after drafting Levy, but he showed he's versatile with moving outside and having a great season. I think he will only get better and better the next few years...

Thanks. I wanted to go with an offensive player this round, but I had Levy way ahead of any other LB left on the board and figured there was no way he'd make it back to me the next round so I was happy to take him there....especially as the 50th or so LB taken. Him and Alonso should be a very dynamic duo for me at LB, and they already have a great d-line in front of them to allow them to make more plays

So far 38% of my picks for both teams combined have been on offensive lineman.

And an interesting note: I thought I was imbalanced, but the Bronco's first 9 picks were defensive players. The Packer's first 9 picks were offensive players. Both teams are owned by seahawks 17.

He was going to the Titans this round if you hadn't taken him. Thought a long time about him last round, might regret not taking him over Lynch,

He was my alternate pick to Munnerlyn this round, good player. Don't expect him to come close to 6 INTs again but that stat just shows his skills.

Fusco and short gone just picks before me..

#2 and 3 on my short list.. Really hope guy I want makes it just a few more

I can't believe King Dunlap lasted all the way until 11.32. Great value.

For the Redskins, I took another offensive player in Martellus Bennett. Maybe I should have taken two defensive players that turn but I figure the first 22 rounds will be my 22 starters so why not stick true to my board this early? Also, if I draft defense in the first few rounds of the rookie draft, I should be able to nab two more starters for my defense, especially if the snake draft option wins the poll.

Last two picks:

11.29 Roddy White WR

Felt like this was really good value for waiting on a 2nd WR. White was banged up last year, but I believe he can still play at a high level for 2-3 more years as long as the health holds up.

12.04 Malcolm Jenkins FS

Was looking for a Free Safety and really liked the versatility that Jenkins offered in that he is able to drop down and play some slot corner for us. It just gives us an added wrinkle from time-to-time. Not sure that Jenkins was great value or anything, but he's only 26 years old and should be an important part of our defense for a number of years.

I just got Brady his token white receiver who dominates in the short/intermediate game. :lmao:

Joking aside, Hartline was legitimately one of the last startable receivers on my board. I actually think at this point in their careers, Hartline is better than Edelman and Welker who both caught 100+ with Brady. If teams focus on stopping Vernon and Graham, I firmly believe Hartline can win in single coverage vs most corners.

There's one guy that was my 2nd option for my last pick and I also considered him the previous 2 rounds, and he's still out there with only 2 teams standing in the way. I'd be thrilled/shocked if he makes it back to me.

Got him...Aaron Dobson. He flashed a lot of potential when he was healthy this past year, and I believe that him and Deandre Hopkins will form a very dangerous duo as they mature and gain experience.

Dobson was on my short list, just prefer Maclin to him. Plus it doesn't hurt to unite Maclin and Foles - their 2014 seasons should be exciting as the Eagles bring Mac back.

Dobson has great upside but I just couldn't get over how inconsistent he has been. Both of my teams are pretty reliant on having an efficient offense and I feel like they can't afford to have a receiver prone to dropping catchable passes.

Couldn't find him in the "selected" or "available" pool. But I'm on the clock and would like to draft Maurkice Pouncey, Ptt, Center if he is available. Could someone clear his status up to me? I see that his brother has been drafted.

Both Pouncey's taken. Bills and Jets have them.
