Can someone let me know what the deal with the Browns offense and Droughns is? Is it the offensive line, is it the playcalling? Droughns has had some pretty unremarkable games and has alot of tough defenses left on the schedule. Also, is he going to play this week? Looking for some Cleveland insight

Per Browns offense and the uncertain status of Droughns this might be helpful.http://www.ffmastermind.com/reports.php

Bengals game review/Ravens preview.

Last week's recommendations for the Bengal game?

We said QB Charlie Frye wasn't a good play but he came through with another 'passable' game. Frye still needs work on his passing game ( 20 - 33 for 244 yards with 2 INTs and 0 TDs) but he was able to use his legs to salvage the day (4 - 10 yards, 1 TD). Charlie still needs to improve his NFL production as his passer rating remains in the fifties, 56 passer rating. Charlie is facing a very tough game against the Baltimore Ravens so we once again caution starting Frye.

With WR Braylon Edwards we gave an unequivocal avoid recommendation last week and turns out we were flat out wrong, 4 catches for 104 yards no TDs. Braylon still isn't a finished product and is fast acquiring a reputation for drops but he has developed a chemistry with Frye. The duo is clicking on big plays. Edwards and Frye missed a 70+ yard pass play in the first game against the Saints but singed the Bengals for a 75 yard pass play Sunday. Can we recommend Braylon this week? Edwards squares off against Pro Bowl CB Chris McCallister of the Ravens who shut down Randy Moss last week. If that wasn't enough to give pause their is the uncertain status of RB Reuben Droughns' shoulder which might prevent him from starting. If Droughns is a no-go that means extra/unwanted defensive attention directed at the Browns passing attack so we can't recommend Edwards this week.

RB Reuben Droughns. We said Reuben wouldn't be able to generate much against the Bengals and although he came up with a score he was only rushed for 34 yards in 14 carries. Today conflicting reports over his MRI taken his shoulder yesterday lists him as questionable with some sources saying that he'll play. Reuben hasn't been able to produce due to problems with the line and with the passing game, now he's injured and facing a tough defensive match up so avoid starting Reuben this week.

TE Kellen Winslow Junior wasn't as spectacular last week as in week one (4 - 42 yards, 0 TDs) and the mercurial tight end has openly questioned the coaching staff's decision to sit him on third downs. No one knows how the coaches are going to handle this situation. We suspect that KWII will regret his decision to publically question the coaching staff and may not see the field as much as he normally would have if he had just kept his mouth shut. We have to give Winslow a recommendation to start this week but keep in mind that his number 'could' possibly suffer due to his loose lips. It will be interesting to see how this one plays out.

WR Dennis Northcutt was given a half hearted recommendation and we're glad we didn't give a ringing endorsement, (3 - 18 yards, no scores, 1 rush 14 yards no scores). This week Northcutt could emerge with a nice game. KWII 'could' end up in the doghouse, Droughns is injured, Braylon will be getting the defensive attention so Northcutt 'could' find favorable conditions to slip under the radar with a nice game but we have been down on Dennis so we can't recommend him.

Team DEF we gave a thumbs down and will continue to do so till the Browns can stuff the run and so far, two back-to-back games of giving up 150+ rushing yards, they haven't been able to stop anything.

IDPs - LB Andra Davis had a so-so tackling game (2 solos 3 assists) but was able to intercept a pass to make good on our recommendation to use him as an IDP. We also said to keep a lazy eye on S Sean Jones and we're glad to provide the tip as he came through with another solid game, 5 solos and a whopping 9 assists, so we can safely advise picking him up and giving him a shot as an IDP flyer if you find yourself thin with your IDP DBs.

PK Phil Dawson was perfect 1-1 30 yard FG and 2-2 on extra points. Our recommendation was that he'd be accurate but not get many chances.

Overall we didn't fair too bad last week with our recommendations. This week the storyline is the status of Reuben Droughn's shoulder and how the coaching staff will deal with the problematic Kellen Winslow Junior. The Browns are talent deficient roster but are showing signs of life with WR Braylon Edwards and TE Kellen Winslow Junior along with rookie LB Kamerion Whimbley making strides. Frye hasn't impressed with his passing but does provide an extra dimension of making plays with his feet. Fantasy football recommendations are difficult to come by from the lowest scoring team in the NFL last year facing a very rough defensive tilt on the schedule. Keep yer chins up Browns fans, their are a few sub plots developing and this team will look vastly different at the end of the year.

Aspettate fino alla prossima volta... Till next time, Ciao!
Not looking like a good start for Reuben and the only recommendation, outside of IDP Andra Davis, is Kellen Winslow but the coaches might take out their anger over Kellen's remarks on his playing time. The link has more than just Browns tidbits they do all other games, worth a look-see, not all reports are in this week.

I think it's 25% offensive line, 40% playcalling, 25% defense, and 10% Droughns himself.

The offensive line is filled with experience with Schaffer, Andruzzi, Fraley, Coleman, and Tucker but these guys are playing older than they are and have no chemistry. They were bullied by the Saints in Week 1 and although Frye wasn't sacked last week, the run blocking was poor. The loss of LeCharles Bentley still stings.

Maurice Carthon is in the process of being ran out of Cleveland. You all heard Winslow complain to the media about the playcalling; he may have been wrong to go public but his comments are spot-on. In the Saints game on 3rd and 1s we seen two sweeps to our rookie fullback with Droughns on the bench. Both plays were stopped. Charlie Frye's arm strength has been called into question and Mo Carthon may be proving the pundits right as there hasn't been a deep threat for two games. No intended passes for 15 yards or more means stacking the box leading to more pressure on Droughns.

As for the defense, the Bengals were marching right down the field on us, leading to Carthon and Crennel abandoning the game plan; assuming there was one.

And finally, Drougns has some key drops (one of the INTs was right off his noggin) and has left some yards on the field. Not a major problem however.

As a Browns fan that likes to play fantasy football with my head rather than heart, I would wait for a strong outing from Droughns and then sell high. If I could get someone like an Addai I would do it.

I think that Crennel will go with Jason Wright as the primary back with Harrison as the third down back stealing every third series or so. That's just a personal hunch from someone who continually subjects himself to the mess called Browns football.

Considering Droughns himself was not producing, I would avoid the situation unless necessary. If I had to pick a temporary replacement for this week, it would be Wright. If it was a long term thing, then Harrison.

Droughns is iffy at this point as he did not practice on Wednesday (in pads); however the ship is sinking fast for Crennel and co. and he must have his horses on the field for a tougher than expected matchup with the Ravens. My hunch is that he plays.

That's a good summary, from one to another. My one note is that Frye has attempted at least two long balls (one in each game.) Remember the opening play vs NO that was called back due to holding? Or the 70yd toss to Edwards last week that was dropped? I think you are correct when you said Carthon is feeding the pundits of the arm strength rumor. But I think it's just that, a rumor. I would think that Baltimore will stack 8 in the box and force Charlie/Winslow/Edwards to beat them. I also think Crennel and Co will review the game plan and put Winslow on the field more oft than not. I don't see them being the kind to keep a playmaker off the field just to humble him. They need to win, and to do that, they need all hands on deck.

I was in the Pound for the opening play versus the Saints. Everyone was going wild except me who saw the flag for the holding. The thing is, that wasn't a designed play. The intended play was broken and Frye hit Edwards scrambling on the run. It was a nice throw but not an intended play.

Last week's bomb I missed, I'll admit. It must have been when the game was out of reach because I needed to do some dishes to avoid a fight when the wife rolled in from work. :bag:

However, it does not appear that there is any kind of a downfield threat until the Browns are behind. At least try to get Winslow the ball downfield instead of passcatching fullback style dumpoffs.

I have a hunch that the Browns will come out of the gate smoking this week. We all know the history of home-team underdogs in the NFL; plus the Ravens have been playing over their heads and the Browns are getting less than zero respect. While I wouldn't expect a big day running the ball from the Brownies' perspective, I expect a close game won by either team by a mistake or a special team play. Return for TD by Cribbs perhaps?

Would Jason Wright do anything if given 15-20 touches? Not against Baltimore, of course, but against a lesser team? Does he have any skill or is he just a warm body? harrison has some talent so to keep ahead of him on the chart, he must be decent, no?

Wright is more of a bruiser in the mold of Droughns, while Harrison is more of a poor-man's Warrick Dunn. Wright, an undrafted FA, has made the most of his opportunities and did not look out of place at all when in the game over the past two seasons. Heck, he beat out Suggs and Green to make the team, so the coaches see something in him.

I think that they wouldn't mind Harrison taking over at some point (He did rush for 1900+ yards in the Pac 10 last year), but this may be too much too soon for him. Assuming that Droughns shoulder injury is a lingering problem, yes, I think Wright may put up 50-60 yards per week with the occasional TD (given 15-20 carries). Harrison does have more upside; they are being much more patient with him. Would I pick up either with guys like Gado, Dayne, Morency, or Moats on the waiver wire? Probably not. I'm not high on the Browns' running game even with Droughns.

Look at the Browns schedule. I don't see things improving a whole lot for Droughns or any other RB on this team.

Droughns missed practice again, and Crennel didn't want to discuss the results of his MRI on his shoulder. Not good IMO. If you haven't grabbed Harrison yet as a Droughns owner I suggest you do so.

:o

If Droughns doesn't play, you want to pick up Wright as the backup, not Harrison. But given the shape of the OL and the tough schedule ahead you're better off using your roster space for something more useful than the Browns backup RB's (Wright or Harrison). Don't fool yourself about Wright however. He did not beat out Green and Suggs on talent. He was deemed more durable and dependable. Harrison has more value in dynasty leagues as he does have more upside. But, this season he is more of a 3rd down / change of pace back. But given his talent, that could change in the seasons to come.

From today's Cleveland Plain Dealer:

With Reuben Droughns questionable with a shoulder injury, coach Romeo Crennel wouldn't say how he'll use his running backs against Baltimore. If Droughns can't play, backup Jason Wright thinks the position will be handled by a committee of himself and rookies Jerome Harrison and Lawrence Vickers. "We're all getting ready," Wright said. "It won't be just me. We've got a great platoon of running backs."
