Calvin's value without Stafford? (1 Viewer)

What can we expect out of Hill for Megatron? Personally I didn't love what i was seeing from Stafford anyway but who knows?

I don't understand the swipe at Stafford. Last year Calvin posted something like 750/5Tds in the 8-9 games they played together. The sooner Staff gets back the better. SHaun Hill is not a frontline starter but he has real game experience coming from San Fran and that will prove to be very valuable for Detroit and Calvin Johnson. Calvin about fell off the map last year when Culpepper was in the game.

What is the extent of Stafford's injury?
It is looking like a seperated shoulder right now. Hill looked horrible yesterday, but in his defense Stafford has been getting 80-90% of the reps to get ready for this year. With a week of practice under his belt Hill should be better. That being said CJ went from a top 2-5 WR to the 20-25 range.

Any news on how long Stafford will be out?

Hill is better than the guy who ran out the back of the endzone, that's about it IMO.

Calvin is tragic, qb merrygoround and botched td calls/catches.

Signed,

Calvin owner number 7472617

Let's not forget that Calvin's stateline would have read something like 5 rec for 70 yds and TD if Calvin followed through on "the process". Hill targeted him quite a bit.

Hate to say it, but Megatron's value took a huge hit with Stafford going down. If Stafford doesn't return until week 7 Johnson will have lost 1/2 the season w/out his qb.I think Stafford being hurt moves Johnson down to a #2 option rather than the elite #1 he was projected to be.

Huge bummer. I really had high hopes for both Stafford and Johnson this year. Maybe now Det will realize that they need to do more than throw some glitter on the tree and get "weapons." They need to do something about that oline in a hurry or they will have successfully sabotaged the careers of maybe the best QB prospect and WR prospect to come out in years.

Nothing could be farther from the truth. I just watched all of Megatron's plays on Game Rewind. He was targeted often near the endzone. He had two "catches" in the end zone, of course the one everyone knows about at the end of the game to go along with a fairly similar play in the first half. Both times he came to the ground with the ball. On the first one he was pushed out of bounds by the defender (now a legal play). He was inches away from 2 TDs yesterday and another 60 yards.Trust me on this.......BUY MEGATRON from a sucker who believes he will fall. 20-25....ridiculous.

Watched the game yesterday and although he started slow, was close to having a big day with 2 Tds. But you know what close gets you? Nothing in fantasy.

That being said, I think Hill is a competent backup and will target Calvin with frequency. The announcers were talking about how the QBs were not taking advantage of Calvin's height and I would tend to agree with that at first. The Lions made a concerted effort to get him the ball up high and he looked good doing so. Below average numbers this week, a "buy" moving forward IMO.

 I agree 100%, however the experts here seem to think that the Lions OL is just fine. The front burner issue for dynasty people here is that Stafford has now suffered 2 throwing shoulder dislocations in 11 games. We all know that recurrence for shoulder dislocations increases with each trauma. It's possible that Stafford may have to deal with shoulder dislocations for his career. So even if he plays well when he is in the game, would the Lions keep him even if he is only good for 12 or 10 or 8 games per season? What's the cutoff before he becomes a player that cannot be counted on and needs replacing?

You should change it to "Calvin's value WITH Stafford?"

He wasn't doing much of anything WITH him in there.

But to stay on topic, Hill seemed to look for Calvin alot. So hopefully he can keep it going. I'd drop Megatron to the 10-15wr range

Shame on all of us for continually drafting lions.
Thankfully the guy in front of me drafted Best and forced me to drop Foster. This alone may make me forget about drafting Calvin at 1:11.

Per Roto

"Calvin Johnson, Lions - When a player catches the ball in the end zone it's a touchdown, correct? Wrong. The Lions got jobbed by a rule that flunks not only the eye test but the common sense test as well. Fantasy owners won't receive credit for Johnson's would-be touchdown, but they can take solace in the fact that he became an even more integral part of the offense when Shaun Hill replaced Matthew Stafford."

I may be on the other side of the argument, I like Johnson's value as much or more with Hill. I watched the game yesterday and when Stafford was in he didn't look for Johnson at all. Here are the stat comparisons

Stafford - Johnson (1st half) - 1 target 0 Catches

Hill - Johnson (2nd Half)- 9 targets 4 catches 45 yds (should have been 5 catches 70 yds 1 TD)

I was shocked CJ saw target from Stafford in the first half. Watching the 2nd half with Hill is what I expected from Stafford, throwing to CJ a ton. Take it for what it is worth.

when young qb's are under a lot of pressure like Stafford was, they tend to panic and throw it to the closest guy. That tends to be their rb, fb or TE.

We can learn a few things from this:1) Calvin's number may actually go up as a function of Hill coming in - and Best possibly not being quite as potent as the Linos had originally hoped.2) The Rotoworld editorial writer either is A) A Lions fan or B) Someone that owns Calvin in his leagues. :kicksrock:

Went through this mess last year in one league, drafted CJ in a different league this time around and here I go again. Hill looks for Megatron though so I'm hopeful. Didn't see the game so I don't know why Stafford couldn't find his best WR.

Nil. The Lions are done. Their whole season was encapsulated in that one game yesterday. They will quit collectively in a few weeks when the are 0-4, again.

First, prognosis on Stafford is definitely out next week, possibly looking at 4-6 weeks but are waiting on more tests. We should know more tomorrow, but most owners that have him in redraft need to look at making a move tonight.

NFL.com's Jason La Canfora seconds a Profootballtalk.com report that the Lions are "bracing" for Matthew Stafford (shoulder) to miss up to six weeks.

La Canfora reports that the team fears Stafford will be out "at least" 4-6 weeks. Pending the results of Monday's MRI and X-rays, he could be sidelined even longer. Owners can try to hang onto Stafford on the end of their benches, but shouldn't count on him playing before mid-to-late October.

If he was your QB2 he's a drop. HE's my QB1 in one league so needless to say I am in trouble.

I agree with most that this could make CJ a good buy-low as all reports have him being a bigger part of their gameplan with Hill:

Calvin Johnson revealed after Sunday's loss that he was not a major part of the early game plan against the Bears because the Lions were focused on running against Chicago's seven-man fronts.

Johnson did become a major part of the plan after Matthew Stafford's injury, but it was too little too late. The Lions won't make this mistake again. Though Stafford's loss may hurt Johnson's potential for big plays, Hill is willing to target him relentlessly. He should stay in fantasy lineups in Week 2.
