Can we discuss Antonio Gates? (1 Viewer)

This may be Assist Coach Forum material but it is a little more than that.

His catches for the last four weeks and the point value in my league:

v. Oakland 3/58/0 = 5 points

v. Houston 3/92/2 = 29 points

v. Minn. 1/10/0 = 0 points

v. Indy 3/26/0 = 0 points

So if you throw out the Houston game, there is a big concern. I have not seen him play this year, so I don't know what the scoop is.

Is poor play from Rivers sending Gates value down the drain? Or should I have confidence that Gates will be Gates and snap out of it.

Looking at the remainder of their schedule:

@ Jags

v. Ravens

@ Chiefs

@ Titans

v. Lions

v. Broncos

@ Raiders

What are the thoughts on his production going foward?

TIA

First things first, you can't throw out the one game. Receivers are streaky.

I think he'll be fine. The MN game was puzzling, but the Indy game was kind of a fluke.

You can't throw out the Houston game though. He's a TE, the best TE but that still brings him about as much consistency as a good WR. There are gong to be off games and while Rivers play has hurt him the only real concern should be if the offensive line is playing so badly that gates stays in to block. I don't know if that’s the case or not but if he is running pass routes then the numbers will be there, just not every week.

It can't be considered a good thing for Antonio Gates that Philip Rivers sucks this season. Kellen Winslow and Jason Witten have almost the same amount of fantasy points as Gates and half the hype. It wouldn't be crazy to trade him for one of those guys and something else.

yeah...it wasn't my intent to actually throw out the Houston game....but it is glaring since even though he put up big FF points he did only have 3 receptions. Giving him an avg. of 2.5/game over 1 fourth of the season.

I've had the same thoughts as I sit here trying to decide whether to trade Gates or Witten. Both are doing well, but I want to trade one off for some WR help. After comparing schedules, I would rather trade Witten and hold on to Gates. He did well early in the season with the same QB and same Oline. I think the SD hit a rough patch, but will bounce out of it. Rivers is playing down, but I expect him to bounce back up soon.

:fingerscrossed:

as a Gates dynasty owner, Im not that worried. Hes too good to be kept down for very long , even with a struggling Rivers
