Mine gives me no troubleSorry GB you'll regret the at&t ####tastic internet. They run fiber to the neighborhood and then run it to your house over copper. It's essentially DSL. Sucks goat wangs.
Had this exact scenario two weeks ago. Called and was on the phone for an hour with 2 reps before they said the manager was approving the release of the card. Still have not seen it. I am canceling as soon as I receive the card, or sooner if I have to call again. Finally had to call about gift card that had not been sent (re-upped 8/11/16). After about 1 hr total on the phone over 2 days, it is on the way. They apparently cancelled it since I had received the same offer last year (but didn't bother to inform my about it of course).
So, if anyone else still hasn't received their card, might be time to give them a call!
Same deal here. Reupped August 11th or so. Called DTV today and was given the number for their reward dept 800-508-1232. I asked what the deal was with my gift card, and right away the guy asks if I got one last year. I said yes. He said ok, let me fix this for you, put me on hold for a few minutes and came back and said he processed it and Id get it within 3 weeks. Finally had to call about gift card that had not been sent (re-upped 8/11/16). HBO and SkinnyMax was free on DirectV FWIW this past weekend. Ended yesterday
I resumed service on 8/2 and still hadn't received my card. I finally got around to calling today and the guy told me it had been sent back in August via UPS and was showing as delivered. Strange though that from my end neither the reward department's automated phone system or the rewards section of the website had any record of them ever having sent me anything. After 10 minutes, I was able to get him to issue me a $200 bill credit. Hopefully it actually shows up and that will be the end of it.***Gift Card Update***
Like others, I signed up in early August and still hadn't received the $200 gift card. After close to an hour on the phone I was eventually told that the original rep did not enter the gift card to my account and I would not be receiving one. After another 20 minutes I was offered a $100 credit to my bill. I politely declined and told her if she made the credit for the full $200 that I would be fine. Put on hold for about 5 minutes and she says she applied the credit. I was still skeptical until I received the conformation email last night.
What a struggle compared to prior years...
This setup worked for over two years and stopped within the last month or two. (I don't use the basement enough)Mother #######g Direct TV blocked HD channels to my basement TVs where I have a splitter with CAT 5 wires connecting both TVs behind the walls. I have one box that broadcasts the same channel to two TVs at once.
Anyone else ever see the "content protection" message?
As you may have heard, AT&T is launching a new over-the-top (OTT) service called DIRECTV NOW on November 4, 2016. OTT services provide potential customers with a streaming-only option when they are unable to have traditional DIRECTV or U-Verse TV service installed.
Though DIRECTV NOW does not require professional installation, technicians may want to be aware of the service and what it entails. For instances where a DIRECTV or U-Verse installation cannot be completed due to line-of-sight, landlord permission or other issues, technicians can provide information on the DIRECTV NOW service and let customers know they can visit directvnow.com to learn more.
Please note that DIRECTV NOW is a completely separate offering from traditional DIRECTV and U-Verse and should only be mentioned to customers when those services cannot be installed. If the customer is able to receive broadcast TV service, technicians should not proactively mention DIRECTV NOW as it is redundant with the DIRECTV and U-Verse Apps, which still offer streaming capabilities to subscribers of the DIRECTV and U-Verse TV services respectively.
Key points to keep in mind for DIRECTV NOW:
The DIRECTV App is still available to DIRECTV satellite TV customers. DIRECTV NOW is a completely separate service.
No set-top box is required to utilize DIRECTV NOW. Instead, customers can stream content via iOS and Android mobile devices, Web browsers, as well as streaming media players that connect to the TV like Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and Stick, and Chromecast. More streaming options are expected to be available in the future.
DIRECTV NOW offers programming packages that are similar to those of traditional DIRECTV service. No annual contract is required. Add-on packages like HBO are also available. More information is available at directvnow.com.
Customers need high-speed broadband service to stream content at a high quality. It is recommended that DIRECTV NOW be used with 12 Mbps broadband at a minimum. Customers can take advantage of a free 7 day trial by visiting directvnow.com if they are unsure whether they have broadband service capable of streaming content, or just want to get a feel for the service.
AT&T CEO says DirecTV Now will cost $35/month, have 100-plus channelsLeaked email from Directv to their installation technicians. The streaming service available this November that Directv would like to keep hidden from customers that pay for a satellite dish in their yard:
AT&T CEO says DirecTV Now will cost $35/month, have 100-plus channels
If that's true, why keep DirecTV and not just go with DirecTV Now?
Dunno, unless you like contracts, hidden fees, poor customer service and an ugly satellite dish attached to you roof. How can they force you to do anything? You can always cancel the regular service and then sign up with the new streaming service when available.Only thing I can see, is that if you currently have DTV or can get it, they'll force you to get the regular service instead of DTV Now.
No idea. I could just see them trying to push that. How can they force you to do anything? You can always cancel the regular service and then sign up with the new streaming service when available.
local channels and recording are important to me. There are still a TON of channels that don't have apps to support this and even the ones sometimes have time limits on how long shows are available for and which shows they choose to archive. No idea. I could just see them trying to push that.
As far as local channels, that will be the big selling point, IMO. If there are no local channels, it'll be hard to switch. Recording isn't a huge issue since just about ever channel has an app now that has past episodes and such.
I don't think they will be able to force anything other than to honor existing contracts, which some people will be stuck with almost two years if they've recently renegotiated. The leaked email just shows how they are trying to keep the new service quiet to those who already have dishes, which shows what a scummy company they really are.I would imagine just about everyone in here would switch over to DirecTV Now, right?
Only thing I can see, is that if you currently have DTV or can get it, they'll force you to get the regular service instead of DTV Now.
For me, local is definitely a priority. Recording is nice, but not a total deal breaker.local channels and recording are important to me. If DTV solves both of those in a simple manner, then the switch decision is going to be simple for me (assuming the roll out is not filled with bugs).
I don't understand. I thought the CEO announced this in front of a WSJ panel with full knowledge that this was going to get publicized. Why would he have announced this if he wanted to hide the information?I don't think they will be able to force anything other than to honor existing contracts, which some people will be stuck with almost two years if they've recently renegotiated. At least I think it is a no brainer. I still need to factor in that I need to spend significantly more on my internet package than I have today. It would be interesting if they bundled together this new service with some internet packages from U Verse to create really attractive pricing. For me, local is definitely a priority. Recording is nice, but not a total deal breaker.
Though I agree, if DTV Now has both local channels and the ability to record, it's a no-brainer to switch.
The last I've read is that they were working on including local channels. They should be in a much better position to get quickly deals done with local stations than their competitors were. Really all they are doing is changing the delivery method. How will Direct TV now handle recording and will the local channels be available?
Read the leaked email and decide for yourself.I don't understand. I thought the CEO announced this in front of a WSJ panel with full knowledge that this was going to get publicized. Why would he have announced this if he wanted to hide the information?
I was asking more about recording. I agree the on demand should stay the same as it is.Recording or on demand? I assume the on demand will be similar or the same. I'm not familiar with directv dvrs, but, there is a growing market for streaming dvrs that could easily replace whatever directv hardware you have.
Yes, I read somewhere that the Roku app wasn't quite ready a couple of weeks ago, but they will get there. They want to compete with Sling and Vue so they're going to have to come to their places of business.Am I right in assuming that DTV will just become another app that you can access on Roku, PS4, Amazon Fire etc?
If someone did come out with a whole house DVR system to support the streaming service, that would be fantastic.
Cord Cutters News has received a report that says DirecTV Now will miss the November 4th release date. It is our understanding that the hold up is a combination of technical and contract issues......Hopefully we will get some DirecTV Now news early next week.
So a month later and STILL no gift card. I called the number and it still says its "being processed"Same deal here. Reupped August 11th or so. So more of the waiting game, but for some reason I think it will actually come this time.
Details of DirecTV Now streaming service accidentally leaked to the publicUnless I missed it, I would think the big thing for the Now service would be sports. I rarely watch TV shows live, so the streaming only service makes sense, unless there is no ESPN/sports package, or only certain network shows are available, and not the sports coverage.
Is there still a DVR involved with Now? I saw the leak but haven't researched it yet.Anyone going to try and play them against themselves with the DirecTV Now offering? Why am I going to pay $83/month for the satellite service when I can pay $35/month for DTV Now?
Doesn't sound like it, but you will be able to go back and watch shows 72 hours after they air, supposedlyIs there still a DVR involved with Now? I saw the leak but haven't researched it yet.
That would be tough for me. I hate the Directv DVR and prefer my old TiVo but I can't imagine not having a DVR.Doesn't sound like it, but you will be able to go back and watch shows 72 hours after they air, supposedly
Still no card here either. Haven't calls back yet. Disappointing. So a month later and STILL no gift card. I called the number and it still says its "being processed"![]()
This is ridiculous.
Yeah, this doesn't work for me if we're not able to DVR. I am sure "watch on demand within 72 hours" will involve forced commercials with no fast forwarding. We usually don't watch recorded shows within 72 hours, often a series will pile up for a few weeks. The wife and kids are trained to pull up the list and watch the shows they record. Even if they can offer every single channel we want for $35 a month as live TV, we rarely watch live TV, except for sports. It isn't a replacement for how we currently watch TV.That would be tough for me. I hate the Directv DVR and prefer my old TiVo but I can't imagine not having a DVR.
