Can you negotiate with DirecTV? (2 Viewers)

Does that have DVR?
Directv Now only has on Demand with DVR maybe in the future, about what you'd expect from a cable company.

YoutubeTV has unlimited DVR.

Hulu TV has free limited DVR with unlimited DVR for an extra cost.

Sling TV has unlimited DVR for $5 although rumored not to include every channel.

PS Vue has DVR recording that lasts for 30 days.

ETA:  Kodi has perpetual storage of almost every show ever.

Ive started looking into all this...but most inread was DVR would not work for live TV/Soorting events.  Is that correct?

for me that has been the deal breaker of cutting the cable.  I'm simply not home for the games I want to watch (travel soccer severely cramps the NFL season) or later games when I have to get the kids in bed. I have to be able to record and/or paise live sports.

Yup.  Funny that the DVR might be the thing that keeps me around.

I will play the game again this year, if they don't give me a great deal I'm out.

I say that every year and always come through but I have a bad feeling about this time

I've had the Premier package plus NFL and NHL (and sometimes MLB) for about 17 years. When my discounts ran out a few months ago, they didn't even try to give me any discounts, so I got rid of all my premium channels. I was kind of shocked that they didn't even try to offer me anything to change my mind.  It's a different company since ATT took over. Last year was my first year I didn't get a good deal for the NFL package. I'm tired of paying so much for cable. I could be out one of these days, but the NFL package keeps me around unfortunately.

Last year it was all about actually cancelling your service.  Looks like from a few folks that will be the same this year.

Last year I really had to cancel and then call a number I found on here and fib that I had received some big deal email.  It worked, but will it work again?  My service was out for like 4 hours

Dunno for sure, don't subscribe to any of them so I haven't tried any sports.  But, if it's NFL you need I use a VPN to point my IP address outside of North America and you get the full NFL ticket and rewind for $129*.  If you can get a .edu email address you can get Directv NFL Ticket for $99*, not sure if that as rewind or not.  Being an alumni I was able to get a free .edu email address from my alma mater.

*Last year prices.

I don't know about any of the other sports.

See post above.

Directv Now not having DVR is a bummer - it's the one thing keeping it from being an absolute grand slam of a deal.  I have a 7 yr old and a 4 yr old, so giving up the library of kids shows and movies we had accumulated over the years on Directv's DVR was difficult. I just couldn't get past the math.

My Directv costs:  $173 a month, so $2076 a year.

My Directv Now costs:  $35 a month, + a free AppleTV ($150 value), so $270 total for the year.

I'd say I'm getting 95% of the same programming I got before.  Once they add NFL Network and DVR, I can't see why anyone would not make the switch.

:goodposting:  You can buy a lot of kid's tv movies and shows for $1800.

Once we added the Nick Jr, Disney Jr, and Disney apps, the kids have more content than ever before.  The Apple TV remote is so stunningly simple that they now cue up their own entertainment, either the Directv Now App, the kids TV apps, or the iTunes movie library.  They were overwhelmed with previous remotes and all the buttons.

It's been a huge win for my family. Very few times in life have I experienced being more satified with a dramatically cheaper product/service.  This is one of the few.

Wonder if I should try this year.  I signed up last year in our new home with a 2 year price lock.  $82.54  3 TV's all DVR and a main DVR in the living room.

I won't have Sunday Ticket or HBO this year and I really want Sunday ticket.  I'm sure they won't budge as canceling will likely cost $240 ($19.99 per month)

I might try calling and being real nice and say that I'm happy but is there anything they can offer.

So I called them over the weekend. My current deal runs through 23 June. I called to see if they could give me the price I had in March before my discounts started going away. I was paying $73/month for the Xtra package. My bill is set to go up to $132 at the end of this month. When I called over the weekend, the best that could do for me was to get it down to $100, which is still $18 more than I pay a month right now. Told me to call back in 2 weeks to see if they had any better offers for me. I told the lady that I was thinking of switching to Sling, but if DirecTV could give me something similar to the new customer deal of $70/month. We'll see if when I call back in 2 weeks if they can give me a better deal or not. I have no problem with moving on from them if they won't work with me.

Is there anyway to scrape content off a DirecTV DVR?

I'm in a similar spot.  You won't get a deal until your deal is done or you cancel. Your just wasting time calling unless you are ready to cancel

Well on the 16th, if they don't give me a good deal, I'm cancelling. I'm not waiting until my current deal expires and then get roped into paying $132. And I'll told the lady that. Either give me a good deal on the 16th, or I'm out. Take my $70/month for another 12 months, or lose my money.

If you cancelled today, and paid whatever cancellation fees, I bet you could get a good deal after.  Just have to really cancel.  They don't care about the threat.  You got to follow through

Oh I know. The lady was trying really hard and was nice, so I gave her the benefit of the doubt. But on the 16th, I'm cancelling unless they give me something close to the what the new customers are getting. I have no problem going with Sling. Has pretty much all the channels I need and I would pay $55/month as opposed to $100+. It's a no-brainer.

Keep us posted.  I will be going through it again early august

Not that I am aware of.  If losing content for young kids is a concern, below is a link listing the apps you have access to via your Directv Now subscription.  My kids completely forgot about the our DVR content once I got them logged into Disney Jr., Nick, Sprout, etc.

Nah, its just mostly my old football/soccer recordings and certain other shows.  I guess I need to get back into the torrents.

Can you get the local channels with Sling? In HD?

My family is going on vacation next week so it seems like a good time to cancel to get a better rate.

When I cancel will they call me in the next few days with a better offer or what is the best way to handle this?

Cancelling today. The best they could do for me would be to get my bill down to $90/month. I currently pay $80 and as recently as March, was only paying $75. I told them I would stay if they got my bill down to that $75/month range. Couldn't do it.

They were much easier to deal with last year when I called. Went right to retention and the first lady I talked to gave me $50 off a month with no questions asked. This time, I've spoken with 2 different people and neither have been willing to budge on a deal. So off to Sling I go. Adios DirecTV

What is and exactly how does Sling work?

Can you get all of your locals with Sling? Are you limited by what channels you can get?

Sling is a streaming TV service. They do have local channels, but it depends on where you live. For instance, in the DC area, I'm able to get local NBC and Fox stations.

I'm able to get probably 90-95% of the channels that I watch most on DirecTV. The only thing I'll miss the most is not having MLB Network or Orioles games (but they are terrible right not anyway). It'll be nice to get RedZone channel without having to buy Sunday Ticket. To add the RedZone channel, which is part of a Sports Upgrade package, it's $10/month and you can cancel it right after the season is over with no issues.

Thanks Matt.

I can't look at that right now, but does it have a DVR?

I want to reduce my bill but I'm not ready to make the jump to Sling or something else.  If I cancel my direct tv for a day or two any idea if I will  get a better deal when I sign back up?

Officially canceled last night. Thought they may try and make a last minute push to keep me. Best they could do was to get my bill down to $100/month for 12 months or for $105/month, I would be able to cancel whenever and not have to pay a fee to leave.

Signed right up for Sling and so far don't have any regrets. I get all the channels that we frequently watch and instead of paying $100/month, I'm now paying $55/month.

Up for renewal (as all my credits come off next month), and trying to figure out if I can get my local fox sports (FoxSW) channel on DTV w/o getting the most advanced package.  We are not home much anymore, but can't be w/o the Rangers during the summer months.

Yup. They've called me 9 times over the last 4 days. I haven't answered yet because they seem to always call at the worst time and they never leave a message. Also, I don't feel like dealing with them. I gave them 3 chances over the last month to give me the deal I wanted. It's crazy that in order for anyone to get a deal, you have to cancel service. They seem to be asking for people to leave them.

I would at least hear their offer but I get what your saying

If they call me today, I'll see what they offer me. I was trying to get them to give me something similar to what they are offering new customers, which is $70/month, free Sunday Ticket, premiums for 3 months, and a $200 gift card. All I really wanted was the $70/month since that's what I was paying before my deal was set to expire.

Yeah I'm paying 75.  And want to keep that.  I want HBO go as well.  I recently got Att fiber uverse for my internet and am wondering if they can give me some kind of bundle deal.  It's 50 just for the internet

I would think they may have some sort of deal for that. They were trying to get me to switch to ATT for cell service, but where I am, Verizon is really the only reliable one.

Yeah I also have Verizon and don't want to switch.  I may call later today.  I am in the last month of my contract now

Good luck. They'll probably tell you what they told me, that the can only offer X today, but try calling back closer to the end of your contract to see if they'll offer Y.
