Can you negotiate with DirecTV? (4 Viewers)

I am a huge Direct TV fan, but moved 4 years ago and unable to get reception. Moving next week and already have my install date. Free Ticket this year, but ready to do battle next season. Called to cancel Comcast and they offered nothing.

Out of contract. Bill went up $50 in the last month. Setup disconnect at the end of my billing period 7/22.  Guess we'll see if I get any "winback" notices or phone calls in the meantime.

Gal on the phone even mentioned that I may be contacted by the "winback department" to offer me new incentives before my cancellation actually goes through, yet she couldn't offer $50/month in credits right now to get me back to where was a just last month.
Strange.  I was offered the 50 and HBO.   I'm holding out for more

I did cancel today though.  Set the time for midnight.  I never set in the future last year either.  I called and canceled and had it back with the deal the next day

Called the above number.

Total strikeout.  Guy couldn't even give me a better deal than listed above. Said he couldn't give me any credits because I actually still have credits going through next month on the account I just canceled yesterday. No HBO, no ticket.  Told him no thanks.   Looks I will be mailing back the boxes and getting out of the game.  May try one more time later but I won't have a problem saying goodbye

Been looking harder at sling.  Might just go that way anyway.  I can get NFL redzone, HBO and the channels I want for less than what I was paying at dtv.  Pretty sure that's what I'm going to do

You have to wait til your credits expire before they'll give you new ones.

Worst case, they shut it off and then you sign up as a new customer with all the new customer deals.

Wasn't the case for me. Had $41 worth. They added $45 more.
Yeah I think I just had the wrong guy.  Will try again.  But sling is looking tempting

I have gotten a deal every year since 2006.  Maybe my time has run out?

This is what I did. DTV wouldn't budge on giving me a deal. Went with Sling and haven't looked back. I like that I can get RedZone without having to pay for Ticket.

Cancelled effective last night at midnight. I called the WINBACK number and was told I have to be disconnected 48 hours before I could be offered any deals.  :wall:

So weird. I called 7/2. Set cancelation for 7/15. Called 7/3 said I missed call and got deals. A couple other people had success and a couple have failed.

They seem to be all over the place on what they offer this year. When I cancelled, I got calls the very next day. Definitely weird that they're saying it has to be 48 hours. These are all reasons I decided to just ditch them. Not worth the hassle year after year.

I decided to try again with the 210-332-6968 number. (They were not open for business when I tried earlier)

SCORE!!!!

Upgraded to Choice package + Free Sunday Ticket MAX for $65.83 per month for 1 year.

Will do the dance again next year.

So you actually had to disconnect then you called back?

Seems to be the trend now.

No talk of visa gift card this year?

Not sure how I missed this but AT&T is trying to acquire Time Warner.  Given they already own DirecTV unless the NFL moves away from a sole source outlet, expect to pay through the nose for Sunday Ticket if the acquisition goes through.

Score.  Make it 12 years in a row.

I went about it a different way.  I used the chat off the contact us.  I told them directly I had just disconnected and wanted to know if I qualified for a win back offer.   They said I did.  Gave me a different number.

Got my same programming back @ 79

Got free Sunday ticket

Got free movie channels including HBO for 3 months

Got 200 gc

Got some free hardware too.  One genie

The hardware required a 2 year agreement so they got me there.  I fully intend to cancel again next year though.  I cancelled this time 2 months early and paid no early termination fee. In fact they credited me back my last month s payment and put it towards my first month of this new deal.  I don't pay anything for 2 months.

Nice!  what hardware did you have before?

Since ATT is my cell provider they are offering their 150 channel base package, DVR and up to five TVs hooked up for $50 a month for two years. $200 gift card as well. Hard to say no to that.

Need to make that call today.  Just saw that they are billing me for the 1st installment of the Ticket. Pretty sure that was cancelled months ago, but need to take care of this before the bill goes up.

Are you sure your bill doesn't say zero dollars for that?  I got my renewal alert on this month's bill.

Same. Also got charged for Sunday ticket. Did that to me last year too.

Positive.  The first installment was already assessed.  I noticed it after my bill had gone up about $45-50.  Made a call and had it removed last night.  My contract is coming to an end next month, so I'm going to call back and do the song/dance near the end of this month.  I didn't have the time to go through it all last night.  I just wanted the immediate payment off my account before the auto-pay kicked in.

Not a billing question but still a DirecTV question. Currently have HD DVR (not Genie), does anyone have issues with the remote/DVR? I just got a new remote because I thought that was the issue but it's not. The buttons either don't work all the time or have some serious lag time. The guide will take forever to come up, switching channels takes up to 15 seconds to switch if the correct number of the channel even takes, fast forward and rewind are a pita as once it starts one direction pressing play or stop don't work. I've replaced the batteries, the remote, and reprogrammed to remote several times and the issues remain. It's very annoying.

I have the Genie, but I have had this issue for a while now. Guide takes 10-15 sec to open. Changing channels, screen will be black for a few sec before picture shows, but I can hear the sound.

Have not had the FF / REW issues.

So here are the results of my annual song and dance:

Cancelled service a week ago just shy of the end of the contract. Called the next day to see what new deals I was eligible for. Turns out there weren't any cuz it had not been a full year since my last great deal. Called back a couple of days later (ask for the Reconnect department ),  and now I was eligible for the "All Inclusive Offer." I have the XTRA package with 3 TVs, and this offer got me $55 off per month, 12 month contract, free Sunday ticket, free HBO for 3 months. Said I would need the $200 gift card to stay, and the rep said let's just give you a $200 credit instead. Works for me!

Considered switching to Directv Now instead, but was disappointed.

Contract out.

Called last week put in the disconnect. Said they would give me $ 5 / month off !   wow....

said thanks, but no thanks.

Called today, no new offers available. $ 20 / month off current bill is all they will do. No new contract.

Asked for ST, no.  Asked for HBO offers, as I watch GOT .. no.  Told her it was cheaper on Amazon, didn't matter. no.

Took the $20 for now. Too much stuff going on this month and next, with 2 kids going away to college.

Will start up again next month. I will change back to cable if no free ST. Its cheaper, and I can watch cable when it rains . ST is the only reason I keep it.

I called today 1 year contract

45off per month for the year (he said prior to state tax was right at about $60/month (with HBO). 3 HD-DVR (entertainment package)

HBO  available at $10/mo. for the year (credited for 1st 2months)

Showtime free for 4 months don't have to call to cancel

Complained about receivers and sending 2 new out to me along with 2 remotes
They said I was grandfathered in to certain stations (didn't ask what he was talking about - have had since 01 or 02)

"In that case I'll take all that, the $200 credit AND the $200 gift card."

Can't believe it has been a year already. Logged in to pay my bill and it was up $50 :kicksrock:

Going on vacation later in July, I'll actually disconnect then. Until the 49ers are good again, I don't really need the Sunday Ticket, so if they won't give it to me for free, I might actually change providers.

Weird.  I wonder why it's so different for everybody.  It's like they throw darts at a chart or something.

Called in today & set up cancellation for 7/25 - my discounts from last year end on 8/8.  Didn't even let them go through the dance of what they could do to keep me.

Will see if I get any calls this coming week or if I have to let it disconnect & take it from there.  Will report back.

I called yesterday, just the regular customer service number, and went straight to cancel. Told the lady I was looking at other options like streaming services but was willing to stay if I got the right deal. She immediately offered $55 off a month with only a one year contract. So I was pretty happy about that, then I told her "my buddy" just got a deal with free sunday ticket and a $200 gift card. In the end I only got the free sunday ticket. Again, I'm pretty happy with that, can't complain, I feel like I got a pretty fair deal for 20 minutes of my time. Will call again next year.

Called today and the best they could offer me was $15.00 per month.  Set cancellation date for Monday.  I've been trying out the Directvnow app the last couple weeks and I think it will be fine for our needs.  The package that my wife wants that has the crap she watches is $65 a month with fees included.  Can't justify paying $150.00 a month when I can pay $60 per month to stream.  The $60 directvnow package has the crap channels my wife likes, so whatever.

Biggest difference is that there is no DVR and you can only stream to 2 devices at a time.  Not an issue in our house, but is a deal breaker for some.

I honestly don't think they can offer us enough of a discount to stay.  They aren't going to get close to getting my bill down to that.  Even with a $50.00 discount (what I had from last time I called), my bill is $102 with 4 receivers.

Called two days ago and set my cancellation date for 7/31 (my contract is up 8/12 so a $20 cancellation fee).  Called the number today and said I missed a call earlier.  The lady checked and told me that she couldn't offer me any credits/deals until 8/4.   :kicksrock:

have you checked out the services like Playstation Vue that offer some DVR functions?

I called today, didn't even want to negotiate (me, not them)... flipping the ##### on these mother####ers. Going on vacation next week, so I'm actually gonna disconnect.

My assumption is they get aggressive with those that disconnect. They'll either negotiate and give the best possible deal to me, we'll set up new service under my wife, or I actually will just be done with them.

My deal last year was free ST Max, $45 off a month for a year. The guy instantly offers me the $45, I said I want to cancel on xyz... so I'll update around 7/28-7/30ish and let you know how disconnecting worked out.
