Can you negotiate with DirecTV? (5 Viewers)

Called back, told rep I spent an hour on my lunch discussing options regarding ticket. He flat out offered Sunday Ticket Max after five minutes.

Went from Sunday Ticket $39.99 -$8.00 a month off $31.99 and a free max upgrade costing $191.94 and a $25.00 credit so $166.00 for Sunday Ticket

To calling back and receiving it for free for the second year in a row

Just did wingnuts play. Said Time Warner had a better bundle and my wife wanted to move there. I told him I didn't want to move. But need to know how much it would cost us to cancel. Got $15 off a month for 12 months and free Ticket max.

Have 12 months left on my contract and this did not change that at all.

Had to auto pay sign up.

Did some homework, and for anyone canceling and needs to shed the dish (I live in a HOA and need this thing gone off the side of my apartment before I move out), this looks like a pretty solid deal for removal, drill hole filling and recycling for $99: http://www.dishdisposal.com/services.php

I tried to find reviews, but I don't subscribe to Angie's List, where they have ratings. Anyone ever remove their dish/deal with these guys that can say how they are?

Called 2 days ago. Guy offered $15 off for 10 months but zero on ST. Told me to call back closer to week 1 for a possible discount. My 2-year contract is up next month.

Called today and was offered 50% for ST Max if I re-upped for 1 year. I countered with free ST-Max for free if I re-up for 2 yrs and they bit. Also getting Genie and 2 minis with free installation. 45 minutes on the phone but well worth it.

Just ordered something called MILFS on their knees and ready to swallow! and it's heavily edited, not hardcore. Anyone know if their adult offerings are now only softcore or did I just order from the wrong channel?

I want to call and get a refund but that may be a bit awkward. Still, I feel completely ripped off right now.

No, that's a throw-in they give based on your past viewing.

I agree, its pretty weak.

Please call them and record the conversation

This reminds me, I have to call them again soon.
Hold.....
I called last week and they guy told me to call back at the end of July since that was when all my previous discounts go away. I told him straight up I was looking for something 'extra' since I wasn't getting the Ticket free this year (they won't give it to you free three years in a row).

Fortunately I have some ammo since I just got a letter from Comcast about an 'Xfinity' package that'd give me a better internet package and a comparable TV package for $90. The TV might even be better since it includes on-demand and doesn't charge extra. Plus I get a $200 Via card.

I got the same offer. very tempted to switch over. their internet package is pretty legit

I'm about to call to cancel my Sunday Ticket. I just got an email that my next bill will include te first payment for it. I'm going to try and get it for free. I didn't get DirecTV until the week of Thanksgiving last year so I only had a couple of weeks worth of free Sunday Ticket. Hoping to use that as a bargaining chip.

fwiw, I have DTV and still use Xfinity because their internet is so fast and reliable. Not the most cost effective way, but consider it an endorsement of XF internet.

I'll go out on a limb and say you'll get it free this year. Call them, tell them you feel a bit gypped that you didn't get the whole season last year, etc, etc and you'll get them to cave.

Got this myself. I can have all 5 TVs connected to xfinity with a 260 channel package with HBO and streampix with the X1 plus 105MB internet for 129.99/mth. Right now I pay 100/mth for DTV and 69/mth for Internet. No way I am going to get DTV to beat that....very strongly considering the switch.

Yeah I just need to see the X1 in action with HD. I have heard comcast's HD is terrible in comparison to DTV but I haven't seen it lately.

I'm currently seeing a charge of $0 for 2014 sunday ticket. I haven't made my fake complaint call yet, would be awesome if they're just giving it to me and I don't have to spend 30-45 min on the phone.

Mine too, but there is a notice that says 6 payments of 54.99 starting on an upcoming bill, if you wish to avoid this charge please cancel by 9/7.

Well I called DTV and got jack. I didn't care about ST, and told them that thinking I could get more $$ off. Nope. Best was 5 off and two free wireless genies but still had 99 install charge and 6/mth additional for each wireless genie. :kicksrock: Going to give it one more go later this month or I am heading to xfinity.

Called them yesterday... Contract is up in August...

Said "Cancel Service"...

Ended up getting a very helpful rep. He gave me $35 off bill for 12 months. Free Genie and 3 wireless genie upgrades (one time $99 fee just like new customers). Free Sunday Ticket. Free Showtime for 4 months.

New customer offers right now are $35 off bill, free sunday ticket, free genie and minis ($99 fee for wireless), Free Sunday Ticket, Free movie channels for 3 months.

All and all I was happy with the deal.

 One thing I always try to mention is the new customer deals they give...sometimes they will give them to existing customers.

Use the cable company has a bundle that will save you money and wife wants to move to them.
I did. Still nothing. Been a customer for 10 years. I honestly don't care about the ST anymore and told her that figuring she could give better discounts. Nope, just 5 off per month and the free wireless genies, so I am pretty sure I am making the switch.

Im with you Hawks. I am unavailble most sundays so its somthing not worth asking for. I ask for other deals and its nothing special like free premium channels for a few months(usually just showtime) in addition to maybe like 15

Off for so many months. Might be time to make the switch

The play is..................my local cable company is offering a great price bundle. My wife is making us move because I want the Ticket and it will cost way too much. She says I can get the redzone channel at (said cable company) Is there any plan or discount that will keep me with DTV compared to the cable company's offer. I really want to be with DTV but my wife wants to leave. Can you help me out?

I'll try this again....I did that. After no movement on this I told her forget the ticket just give me the best discount you can give me. Still nothing.

The Xfinity deal is pretty good, I may make the switch once I see how good their HD is. Their ondemand stuff is significantly better than DTV though.

"I love football and have DirecTV basically just for Sunday Ticket, but this year my wife just won't agree to dropping the cash on it and paying more for our service just so we can have access to it".

That's pretty much how I've answered the "why are you canceling?" question every year and they've always gone in heavily with their offers right afterwards. Just blame it on the wife/kids and they'll know to start throwing around actual cash money savings instead of movie channels or some other crap. Then ask for the movie channels after you've agreed to the other stuff.

Rumor, you can get just the sunday ticket from Direct TV.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/early-lead/wp/2014/07/16/no-satellite-required-directv-posts-ad-on-its-web-site-offering-sunday-ticket-streaming-services/

NFL junkies who want all the football without the satellite, rejoice! Sunday Ticket, which airs every out-of-market game, is now available to stream live directly to computers, phones, tablets and gaming consoles, according to an advertisement recently posted on DirecTV.com. The company, however, has made no official announcement.

Unlike the WWE Network or even Netflix or Hulu, every household might not be eligible for the streaming services. I put in my Washington, D.C., address to check if I was eligible, and I was. But when I tried addresses of relatives and friends who live in various other locales, both in and around D.C. and as far-flung as Minnesota, not all I tried were eligible for the advertised services. No explanation was given as to why.

Those who are eligible, however, have three levels of access to choose from, starting with flat fees of $199.99 and topping out at $329.99. The lowest level of access allows users to watch live, out-of-market NFL games every Sunday, stream games on their computers, tablets or phones, get real-time stats and scores, and track favorite players.

The second level of access, which costs $239.99, does all that except instead of streaming to your mobile devices or computer, users can stream instead to their video game consoles.

The last and most expensive level of access allows users to do all of the above on a computer, mobile device or console, and also throws in Red Zone, which shows every touchdown from every game, and DirecTV Fantasy Zone, which gives live looks at fantasy plays.

AppleInsider.com adds some additional comments:

There is no word yet on whether subscribers will be able to use Apple’s AirPlay technology to stream games on their television from an iOS device. Current versions of the Sunday Ticket app are not AirPlay-enabled, but it is possible that the new subscription packages will change that.

Details aside, however, the idea of being able to stream live games to a computer or other device could have a major impact on the cable and satellite industry. One of the main reasons many people continue to subscribe to cable or satellite services is to be able to watch games live. If people can do that for one flat fee that amounts to much less than a year’s worth of monthly fees, plus extra flat fees on top of that, this could be a real, pardon the pun, game changer.

I'm making the call next week. I need a new receiver and satellite, so it should be interesting.

I'm moving anyways on 8/1, but yeah I'd ditch it even if I wasn't now!

:hifive:

Leaving direct for what?

Comcast? Crappy customer service and a product that is about even.

Plus the ability to then pay $200 for the direct/ST app that is not as useful as the actual ticket...that you can apparently negotiate and get for free?

Not sure anything could ever get me to actually go back to Comcast for TV.

Going to call tomorrow to try and figure out what Direct will do for me (though, my 2 year contract isn't up until November/December)

I can bundle TV+internet with Comcast, same channels I have now, and save an immediate $50/month. ST was only thing keeping me from bundling with one provider the last year and a half, and at a net $400 annual windfall with the $200 package, in addition to MLB blackouts on DTV where I'm moving vs. none on cable, it's an absolutely glorious day.

Don't go cutting the cable yet. That online Sunday Ticket offer is for residences like apartment complexes that can't receive a satellite dish. Check your address eligibility on the site.

Yep. I know the drill and talked to the right person.

The deals seem to be less customer friendly the last number of pages in this thread. I felt a trend, then the announced merger with AT&T. I bet they're trying to keep cash short-term to prop up the stock price as the FCC starts looking into this deal and the Comcast-Time Warner merger.

I believe they should disallow the mergers. Too much power.

I'm curious to see if the customer retention deals continue to dry up compared to last year. Let's hope not.
