Can you negotiate with DirecTV? (8 Viewers)

Just now read about the script/gift card so I didn't use it but a few days ago I called to cancel, told them I was going to go the HBO Now/Hulu/Netflix route. Then she started offering me stuff:

  • $25 credit and 3 free months of HBO. I told her I already signed up for HBO Now (truth) and didn't want HBO.
  • She then told me she could change me to some premium package for the same price for a year. I told her I currently have a package they don't offer anymore and it's a really good deal ($35/month) and that I didn't need any more channels as I only watch HBO and football.
  • She then tried to offer me some sports package that included NFL network. I told her if Red Zone wasn't included I didn't want it.
  • She then said that if I extended for 1 year she would give me the Sunday Ticket Max package for free. I said yes as long as she would include the $25 credit and sports package. She said no to the sports package but gave me the credit.

I rode that high into a call with century link to double my internet speed for the same cost. Good day at the Kanil household!
Call them back. You're leaving about 800 bucks on the table. "Hey, my friend just got this deal...I want better." At the very least call them back and say you were promised a gift card link and it hasn't shown up yet on the website.
Willie,

Ive look around and cant find exactly what you got other than in a very technical IBM-1980-style-spit-out of the details. Did you write it up somewhere else too? I cant seem to find it.
I got everything everyone else did and a little more. $43 off for 12 months, free sunday ticket max, 200 gift card and $7 off hbo for 6 months as well as a one time $17.99 credit. My bill with HBO and ST max will be around $55 a month for 6 months. Then in 6 months it will go up 7 bucks. If you prorate the gift card, the hbo savings and one time 17.99 credit over 12 months, I'm paying like $38 a month with HBO and ST max.

So you actually received the gift card? That was fast.....

That didn't go as planned. Called the regular number and got retention department. Asked what offers they had to keep me and they offered 1 month of free sports pack and 3 months of free movie channels. Said no to any $$ discounts or Sunday Ticket Max and said it was because my account was in "pending cancellation."
Sounds like you went way off script almost from the get go.
seriously, no improv here guys. the script is tested and it works every time.
Yeah, called the 877 number right back after hanging up. Got the ST: Max, $51 off x 12 months, 3 months of free movie channels. No mention of the GC and I didn't ask.

Willie - sounds great but how does that math work? What channel package do you have?

Assuming you only have one TV, they also charge $10/mo. for HD service and another $10/mo for Advanced receiver service. What about any sports channel fees? With 1 tv/receiver and the now defunct Xtra Classic at $79.49 and HBO at $17.99 - with $43/mo. off and another $7/mo. off for HBO I can only get the math to $67.48 a month - and that is without a small sports channel fee (and taxes of course).

No HD service or advanced receiver fee. Some kind of DVR fee but not sure which one.

No HD? What's the point of having all those channels when you're watching it like some 240 YouTube video?

Did you guys who got your cards already have to fill out a form and mail it? Or was the gift card just going to be automatically sent to you?

mine was via the form that I had to mail.
and you already got it? how long did it take?
Yes I already got it.

Maybe 3 weeks total?

You can check the thread if you want the exact dates. I posted when I mailed the form and when I received the card.

maybe since you misspelled your last name.........they shipped to wrong person????????
Only if they misspelled it. I just mailed the form last Monday. If it takes 3 weeks then I have some time to wait.
It says right on the form.

I think it's like 4-6 weeks
The form I have says 8-12 weeks. I just called the number and the automated line says they have received my submission and it is being processed.

Right but other people were told long wait times and got the card much quicker. They always inflate those wait times.

they told me they wouldn't even send out the gift card until I had at least 30 days of service under the new agreement. card showed up less than 2 weeks later.

Got my gift card yesterday as well, this after making contact via online chat with the lines I posted earlier. Thinking even though they told me I was not going to get one in my initial call I was put in the system for one anyways or something because that was quick as hell.

I accidentally forgot my cancellation date was last Saturday so my service got turned off. :bag:

In the week leading up I called in twice and ended up talking to the same girl who was only willing to offer $20 off for a year. Anyway, once the cAncallation happened i called in to give them "one more chance to keep me as a customer" and she replied with $45 off for 12 months, free movie channels for three months, and free Sunday ticket max. So it worked out eventually.

I'm almost out of my contract, have made the call for the past two seasons to get the Max package free but I'm now going to be moving in the next 6 weeks or so. Should I follow the script before I move, or wait until moving time and try to leverage deals then?

were any people who have been successful this month still have active monthly discounts from your call in 2014? I have about $30 of monthly discounts that are still valid on my account and that some expire in the next month or two. do i need to wait until the discounts expire?

i honestly don't give too hoots about ST, it's red zone that I am hooked on.... last year i got offered regular ticket or red zone... picked red zone.

i had a bunch of discounts, around $35. they just swapped them out with the new ones, which were better.
