Can you negotiate with DirecTV? (1 Viewer)

Also curious if I get that deal tomorrow as he thinks, that next year when the bill goes up crazy I'm able to do this again.

Yes my cancel date was 6/22, while it was a good deal, I really want Sunday Ticket Max. The gift card appears to be a throw in. I'm not interested in movie channels.

Got an email - that my service was disconnected 5/4/16 - in 7 days I'll receive a bill -IF my service was cancelled before the end of your agreement, you will see early cancelation fee.  (it's not)

Now just waiting on the rep's call when he gets in at 2-EST

I just went from an old plan with roll over minutes and unlimited data on 2 phones plus 3 gb on one phone to unlimited everything for all 3 phones discounted to 175 due to being a directtv customer, I think it knocked about 25 dollars per month off of my bill.

Curious how it goes this year, because if I get this deal, I go back to being a 1 year customer.  Then next year my bill likely goes from 78 to 128 - Did they do it for you again? did you have to cancel and rejoin two years in a row?

Correct - So far a friend of mine, didn't have to physically cancel his account, they offered him deals,  It looks like (still waiting on their call in an hour) that I had to disconnect to get ST and the GC.  (Probably because I got it all last year)

 
No luck, very pissed.

Robert calls back, says the offers aren't in the system for me, thinks it's because I was on the "winback" deal last according to his supervisor.

I tell him to keep me on till 5/22 instead of keeping me disconnected to allow the new company to get in so I'm not without TV.

I then called back that number got a lady who seemed to not have as much deals but did see Sunday ticket, she transferred me and then I got a manager before she could offer me a deal.  The manager Ryan said he's going to disconnect me for 24 hours and call me back Saturday at 10:00 AM, The previous guy Robert only had me disconnect for 12 hours.  He said let's try 24 hours and wasn't confident or promised anything.

So now no TV  Thursday, Friday.

It seems they were calling my bluff as well for the first time in years.  The guy that called back wasn't as nice as he was yesterday because the deals didn't populate like he thought.  I then got caught calling right back because the lady was like I can transfer you to him, I said no let me see your offers and then as she was trying to find me deals to equal Roberts, she said her manager was ready to talk to me (who was in a meeting) Who I originally spoke to.  Just a giant mess that I hope gets sort out.  He's going to review the calls I made.  The one lady did mention supervisor's can override so she's not sure why I couldn't get them.

I think it shuts off again at midnight tonight and I go from 12:00 Friday to 12:00am Saturday.
Shoot, if I were you, I'd go pickup a $40 Amazon Firestick and load up Kodi and that Titanium Build I talked about in the "We Cut Cable" thread.  That has tons of live TV (cable) channels  on it, plus free movies and TV series, the works.

Eff DTV. I'm doing my free Vue preview on my Amazon Firestick this weekend as I have some time to actually check it out.  Pretty confident I'll be outright dropping DTV by the end of this month when my contract is up.  Don't really need Sunday Ticket anymore because looks like ill be able to get most games off the Firestick and Kodi.

I think I'm a Direct TV sucker,  I need my local channels, and then every single sports channel. 

I guess I really need to start forming a list of what I watch routinely.

I'd need live sports for CBS, CBS Sports, NBC Sports, NHL, NFL, Big 10, SEC networks, All the ESPN's, Fox's,  MSG for hockey.

I think I watch too much sports to go the other route.

 
I wonder if you really may get this worked out, especially since you actually did cancel, for more than 24 hr..  Seems like that would initiate the new customer protocol for you.  Interested to see how this finally winds up.,

The rep said yesterday he'll call 14 hours later to see the offers.  Nothing generated. So maybe it has to pass midnight.  Who knows. Just get me my bill down to what I'm used to paying the 4 years with them $70-75 a month and throw in Ticket and sold.  The GC was just gravy.

Did you cancel first or just calling to see what was available and did all the deals from last year already come off your bill?

 
I just got the phone number that called back my friend right away the other day to give him his deal (Two years in a row)  210-625-9046 - I may call that later to see if any deals "sprouted up"  Granted I've been getting the same deal for 4 years.

That's what I was told I would get but had to shut down.  I can't remember if you got the deal previously.

This is the frustrating part of doing this, there is no consistency.  You would think every CR would have the same information on their screen regarding your accounts.  Things should not change day to day or CR to CR rep.  So strange but it does show that it is worth calling back if you hit a brick wall initially.

 
I still don't see it...
I'm guessing your statement looks like mine.  Scroll about halfway down the email.  On the left-hand side, there's a section labeled "Account Activity".  Some of the charges will have notes in parentheses saying things like "8 of 12", etc.  That lets you know how many months are left on that discount.

Question - I currently have the Genie HR34 box as my main DVR.  The thing is so freaking SLOW.  Obscenely slow.  I'm about to call and try and get some discounts (after reading this thread, that's making me nervous as it seems the process has changed some). 

My question is this:  The newest Genie box is an HR54 model.  Has anyone tried to actually request that model?  I've heard from some articles online that the 3rd party installers determine what equipment you get, not DirecTV.  I really want the newest model because my wife complains endlessly about how slow the current box is.

Yeah - I've reset it via Settings menu as well as the "red button," and it's only about 1/3 full, so I don't think it's storage space either.

It's a known issue as per a few forums (DBSTalk).  Basically, they keep pushing more and more advanced software onto the Genie boxes, and the HR34 is the oldest, slowest one.  Even still - I know when they launch 4K broadcasts, the only box that supports it now is the HR54 (with a Genie 4K add-on), so I'm gonna want something new anyway, just not sure how to ensure I get the latest equipment.

 
Cut the cord.   I have been in this thread since the beginning and always got free Sunday ticket plus.   Nothing felt better than taking all their crappy equipment and sending it back.   I can put my TV anywhere, no cords, no weather interruptions, no paying for DVR and equipment rental and the best, not having to deal with Direct TV!   I was a customer since 1999 and they threw everything at me to stay and glad I didn't.   :pickle:

They kept me on the phone like 30 minutes offering me stuff, Sunday Ticket, Free Movie Channels, discounts.   I really didn't hear everything because I was done and cut her off saying your equipment sucks, it doesn't matter what you give me if I can't watch it.  10 minutes and she would offer again while she was "finalizing my disconnection" (My disconnecting happen because SWM switch went bad, I asked them to send me one and they wouldn't and they wanted to send a tech.   Sending a tech is idiotic as all changing one entails is unscrewing 3 cables and then screwing on 3 cables.  We had problem with techs in the past as most are not that good and didn't want to deal with one.)

 
We bundled our cell phones and tv together.  Saved quit a bit actually, and was pleased for once with Directv, ooops AT&T.   Going back to unlimited data with 2 kids on cell phones was best for us.

Sounds like if youre going to make the cut for sure this year, better make so you really want to.

 
Ruined my Saturday with them. Over three hours. Disconnecting made my bill even worse. June's bill is $129 now.  The reps said disconnecting would make it better. Their managers said I've had the deal too many times and not getting it. Not to mention, I was on hold, however they forgot to hit hold and I heard them slandering me for ten minutes in the background. 

I pay for Time Warner $34.99 for Internet. Seeing if they want me. I hate Time Warner TV.  Not to mention we are house shopping currently and are hoping to have a new house in 2-3 months. Hate this process. Beyond frustrated.

30 minutes with Time Warner... They offered TV/INT comparable to what I had TV wise. Includes RedZone.  Their quote $165, $325 Visa GC. Faster internet upgrade. No contract. 

Was always used to paying $110 with Direct TV/INT.  Now it's roughly $165 same as TWC, if I take their crappy credits and two year agreement I can knock it down to $135.   

With a potential move coming, I may just stick with DTV and sign up in my wife's name at the new house. 

Switching to TWC for a few months only to potentially switch back is a hassle.  

Blah.
