Can you negotiate with DirecTV? (3 Viewers)

Cut the cord.   I have been in this thread since the beginning and always got free Sunday ticket plus.   Nothing felt better than taking all their crappy equipment and sending it back.   I can put my TV anywhere, no cords, no weather interruptions, no paying for DVR and equipment rental and the best, not having to deal with Direct TV!   I was a customer since 1999 and they threw everything at me to stay and glad I didn't.   :pickle:
I did the same.

They never called back. Spent all morning calling around different numbers.  They aren't seeing any offers for me. They said it's because I accepted the Winback last year.  She's calling back in two hours to see if anything populates. They are all clueless.  ####!!!!!

disconnected for two days currently. Bill jumps from 75 to 110 after May 22nd statement generates and credits wear off. May just tell them to turn me back on and try on May 23rd.
can you just get the original deal they offered you?  It might not have been as good as last year bonanza but it was still a decent offer I thought.  I think this is what they offered from an older post you made:

=========================

Offered

 $25 off for 12

$10 off for 12

1 time $40 credit

to put me at $75.92

No, it's not there, or so they say. Don't ever disconnect. They think offers will be there but if you got many times before it's gone ,Because this year promo runs out next month the choice extra package with full home DVR and two more boxes is $125. Only credits they show are $10 for 12 and $20 for a 2 year agreement.  I can get it down to 105 a month but not interested.

so the first offer was not real or did it just disappear?

Disappeared because the account managers manager said to disconnect and he'll get me 47 off, ticket, and a Visa GC.  Once it didn't appear nobody called me back because they realized what a billing mess it was. It messed up my billing dates and all that crap and partial charges on top of everything that took hours for them to figure out.  The one lady is confident I won't have any good offers available in a month. I may just pay the 129 once, and try the day after my statement generates, just to piss them off that I'm calling again.

I've gotten ST free for 4 years, so I'd be curious if anyone else will have a giant issue trying to get the "Winback" promo multiple years.

If I can get your original deal, I am going to take it.  I probably just need one more year for the cord cutting options to match my families needs.  Maybe even sooner.

No kidding.  As DTV's resident gimp, I'm petrified what they may do to me.

What did they say during the slandering?
"Oh God, this idiot again. I don't want to talk to him. You talk to him. I told him there were know deals. He wants to talk to our manager who should I give him. He thinks we are going to hand him deals. Just keep him waiting a bit and then they laughed. Then they talked amongst themselves for awhile.

This is definitely enough for me to bail.

We bundled our cell phones and tv together.  Saved quit a bit actually, and was pleased for once with Directv, ooops AT&T.   Going back to unlimited data with 2 kids on cell phones was best for us.
We did (almost) the same...long time AT&T customers (since Cingular) and we just went in to trade up phones.

they gave us a BOGO on the phones, so we gave it to our daughter and with switching to DTV, we were going to get the unlimited, but there is a slight catch my wife found.

We have some $15 per phone fee for the connection/data something for 10g of data/mo. That fee went up to $40/phone if we switched to unlimited. GTFO!!! not worth it, b/c even IF we went over (which we never do) the overage charges are no where near the $75/mo (additional $25/phone x 3 phones) extra it would have cost us per month.

As for the DTV...I really like the service, but the iPad app SUCKS DONKEY BALLS!! Holy carp....Its 2016!!?? How is this app so bad? I can't get certain channels, it is so slow and laggy, and there is NO ONE there to help you with it, only the TV. Trying to watch live sports on it is like trying to have a conversion with a narcoleptic stutterer. Shame too, bc I watch a lot of TV on my iPad.

Try signing up under your wifes maiden name.

I will disconnect again like I did last year. If the same #### happens to me as you, I will go to Time Warner. No problem.

That's the plan.  We are house shopping anyways. So as soon as we find something, cancel and sign up at the new house.

This is what I'm doing. Setting a cancel date, if no deal comes, actually canceling while on vacation for a week. If no deal comes within 4 days of disconnect gonna have the wife sign up for a one year contract, then try the same thing next year under her bill - switch back to me, rinse and repeat... I don't see why this won't work.

Reading through the thread on SlickDeals, it doesn't sound promising. There's no way I can justify paying $47/month more for the same exact service I have now. If they don't work with me, I have no qualms leaving.

have you set your cancel date?

My deal expires 5/20 and am just awaiting the first new bill so I can talk about the "2 year savings" note on my bill to see if that gets me anywhere.

My deal expires 5/23. I'm really curious about that as well. Plan on calling this weekend and setting my cancellation date as 5/22.

@MattFancycan you do me a quick favor?

Check your account.  Something just got posted in mine that is odd (under the activity) windows.

Here is what my last bill said.  I don't understand where the months 13-24 are coming from for the $10.  I would have thought if anything it would have been for the $33 which talks about a 2 year plan......This makes me hopeful I can get something done on the phone.....

2-Year Savings: $33 off $81.99 for months 1-12 (12 of 12)
$10 off $81.99 for 12 months (12 of 12)
$4 Price Guarantee Ends: 05/2016

First level rep says that I am on a 2 year plan and that both the $10 and $33 rebates are both rolling over to months 13-24.

She did not seem very positive in her tone so I asked her to confirm with a supervisor.  Waiting for that now.

Keeping fingers crossed!  I don't care about ST.  If I can keep the $43 a month off, that will be perfect!

oi what a mess.

Supervisor says the $43 ($33 + $10) has been replaced by a $10 discount and that it was not a two year plan.  After arguing with her about the wording on the bill, she is now trying to check for other promotions to see if they can find any other savings.

Sunday Ticket isn't a deal breaker for me since I get all the Skins games anyway. RedZone is nice, but not the end of the world. I would much rather keep getting the $47/month discount than Sunday Ticket, movie channels, or the GC.

ok this was the best I could do.  No where near as good as last year but good enough for me to hang around.

$25 off for 12 months

$10 off for 12 month

1 year contract

Like I said, significantly different from last year but actually in the rough ball park of previous years and this gives us a little more run way room to allow the cord cutting options to solidify over the next 12 months.

Overall I will be paying about $240 more for the year compared to the previous year.

Not terrible. With the way the negotiating has gone for most this year, I would take that. Better than having to go through the dance of setting up the cancellation date and all that.

yeah, I am really bad with this stuff.  At least I did not have to set up a cancel date.  I just asked for the latest promotion and she found the $25 extra on top of the $10 that was put in place to replace the $33 (very odd by the way, she said that the $10 was what makes it a 2 years savings so it looks like the was already planned last year but was not explained to me).

I think it helped with the strange wording on the bill (even though both she and I know it was suppose to be for only a year, it did not hurt to push that specific point to try and find something to make one more level).

At least I don't have to worry about this for another 12 months and hopefully by that time Playstation Vue (or other similar service) will be what I need it to be.  I am still going to use these 12 months to test out some devices like Amazon Fire to see how things look to prepare for next year.

The rep told me last year that mine was a 1 year deal but it was set up so I could just sign up again next year and get the same deal - $43 mo. savings on Ultimate.  I did finally get the $200 GC, 3 mo. HBO and ST.

I am getting psyched up for this, because it doesn't sound like its going to be easy.  I do have crappy AT&T internet so maybe the bundling option could work.  I would rather not disconnect - but last year I had to disconnect in order to get much of anything.

I would be all over Vue if they offered my local channels
The recent talk in the Cord Cutting thread has scared me.  The talk of buffering issues even with a very fast internet connection would cause my family to try and kill me.

DirecTV may cost more but there is something to be said for the certainty of the quality of the picture.

I haven't had any issues with the PS4. I think the issues with Vue are with the fire stick. I read it works well on fire tv too.

you better get pyched up.  Direct TV was giving away free hookers last year to anyone who called and you still had problems :)

Maybe you will have the reverse experience this year and get an easy deal!

excellent!  I will be testing on a PS4 (which I own) and on a the fire tv box (which has been recommended to me to buy instead of the stick).

Anyone familiar with the Amazon firestick jail broken, it really allows you to watch every PPV and NFL game? doesn't seem possible for $75.00

Doesn't need to be jailbroken, just a $40 Firestick sideloaded with Kodi and a decent build will give you all you need.

Lots of talk about these in the most recent postings over there...

Anyone know why I would've received a "DirecTV refund check" in the amount of $211.62 from AT&T today? No other explanation was given. Just a check. It's a legit check.

my new bill came in about $7 cheaper per month than what the CR told me it would.  It seems correct though from what I can read through.

Has anyone else tried to dance with Direct TV this year?

Had some free time tonight, decided to call and see what I can get for discounts, or even threaten to cancel.  I live in BFE so my options really are limited.  But I usually am fairly successful in getting some kind of deal.

They offered me $47 for 12 months (same as I am getting.now)

Free Sunday Ticket Max for 1 year renewal.  Gotten it free five years straight now, no questions asked.

I took it.  Like I said, my options are limited.  Its either this or Dish or streaming, and it doesn't sound like streaming is quite there yet to rely on it solely.

Basically getting the same thing I have (Ultimate Package) for $45 for the year (regularly $92).  The ST was a throw in because I was ready to just cancel it this year.

This buys me some time to see if streaming options get better over the next 12 months.
