Can you negotiate with DirecTV? (1 Viewer)

It's that time of year.....all my freebies dropped off.....My bill went from $ 170 per month to $ 270....called to set up a date for July 31....we shall see how long it takes...I told the DTV rep to have their renewal people get ahold of me....he said....oh yeah....they will be calling you back soon........
no they won't

Is there an actual email this year like the winback one from last year. My disconnect went into effect this morning. I have no email but should i be good to call back?

Just disconnect when you're doing a summer vacation.

We we're away this week and actually disconnected. I never received a call or email, but I called a number posted in here (forget which one) and received a new customer offer.

ST Max, Total Choice Plus, DVR, HD, 2 receivers, all movie channels for 3 months etc etc... they offered me this for $67 - I asked about the gift card for $200 and they said it was $77 for that offer, that's what I took. Net works out to $60 a month. Also getting new equipment. They tried for a 2 year contract on a slightly better deal, but I declined and elected for the 1 year.

See you in 12 months.

yes call them back ASAP.  I never got any email or call, but I told them I got a text about a customer loyalty winback program, and that it said ask about discount programming, free ST and movies for 3 months and a ATT gift card.  Make sure you ask to speak to customer loyalty.  I was told they are only in on M-F, but after my third call, I got someone thaty could actually give me the deals, but wasn't actually in CL dept.  Just keep moving up the ladder. glllllllll

She said I could have had a $200 gift card with other deals, but not with the one I accepted.

I was told when I got this deal, that I wasn't eligible for this deal + $200 GC.

Seeing how many people are getting the $200 gift card, I decided to whine a little bit on directv chat. I got a nice girl named Kate. I was very friendly, told her I have a daughter named Katie, etc. She was gone a couple minutes, then came back with this:

"yellowdog, I will go ahead and raise an escalation on your account, so that our back end team will investigate on this and you will receive the $200 Gift card within 5 to 7 business days."

Will update further if/when I receive my GC.

I had a message on my machine on Friday that gave me a number to call for rewards. Just got off the phone with AT&T rewards to claim my $200 GC. Nice gentleman on the other end said he would put my request through and the card would be mailed out on August 6.
I received my $200 gift card today!  :pickle:

I have always received free NFL ticket. Just call Directv before the NFL season starts threaten to cancel, and BAM free NFL ticket.
Agree, I literally treat them like they are in debt to me. I just keep informing them that they are nothing more than Comcast if I dont have Sunday Ticket and they are offering me better than you can. My contract ends in August and I never sign more then a 1 year....NEVER. They try and I say no go. They try to say I need a 2 year agreement and I say that won't work, I'm out.

Set up cancellation, then you own them. They need subscribers to DTV, they cant lose you. They are required to keep so many subscribers in order to keep right of first refusal to the NFL games. Know your counterpart in any negotiation. i know more about their company then those trying to sell it to me...oh, I inform that of them too. I tell them what they need to do to keep me from setting up cancellation, they oblige or they transfer me, simple as that.

I even put on the unneeded sauce to just let them know their place in my life, I inform them no biggie to even get it for free, I have a friend who lets me use his internet log in so this is just a courtesy to keep my biz. Do not tolerate no, infact laugh at them when they tell you. I have no respect for ATT and DTV after how my dealing have been with them, I let them know that too...this is mearly business, not personal. They hate me at the end of each call...but they give me what I demand not what I request.

They usually expect football fans to stay because they love football, I know its hard but have the mindset thats its just football and that you can save money and get the RZ at comcast for $5. lol

^^^^ this guy gets it

Lots of success stories here, but has anyone gotten the stiff arm from them this year?

I, and I believe a few others here, did last year and am not sure I want to waste the time this year. It was tough to tell if they wouldn't help last year because of some existing credits or because we had free ST in past. I even cancelled last year, got the emails and phone calls, yet was still told I wasn't eligible for the deal. Getting everything reactivated on my account after cancel was such a pain.
I feel the same way.  I DREAD this phone call with them every year.  I've managed to get ST free almost every year, but sometimes the several hours on the phone and the back and forth is ridiculous.  I also don't like that it seems like you actually have to now cancel your service.  I've never had my service disconnected where I go even one night without tv.

I love this.  I have one more month of free credits (11 out of 12 now) from the negotiating I did last year, so I know I can't do anything until the next bill.  I'm assuming on the next bill I'll have my last month of credits and then the ST installments will also be on there.  I will have to start the discussion again...

Called to cancel this weekend and was told that I've been paying for a 4th TV for 2 years, which is weird since I don't have a 4th TV.  Supposedly getting a gift card for $250 for paying for something I wasn't getting.  Gal was very nice.  Then all week long I was getting calls from a TEN area code.  Figured it was either @Joe Bryant calling to finally make me a part of his staff or DirecTV calling to win me back.  Finally answered and the guy from DTV offered me all sorts of crap but at the end of the day, I can't watch the Blazers with DTV nor the Ducks when they play on Pac12 network, so to hell with them.  Comcast bundle was a much better deal for us plus I can now watch my sports teams.  DTV is officially dead to me.
I'm with you GM.  I am finally going to drop Directv this year and the biggest reason is them not having the Pac 12 network.  I have been streaming thr games via Apple Tv using my parents log in info but the games keep pausing or logging off.  I am done with it and going to Dish or Cox.

is there a completely wireless dvr?  i am hanging the tv on the wall and want a box that has zero wires.  does this exist?  my dvr boxes are practically original.  i think one of them is an OG tivo.

i set up cancellation for tomorrow.  game on.

did you get a new modem?  that want to charge me $99 for install and a new modem.  i told them to pound sand and set a cancellation for tomorrow.
Nah I already have att fiber and have a fairly new/robust one

You shouldn't have to pay for hardware.  You will have to do a 2 year agreement though

yea, its only been 9 days since I reupped, so Im sure Im jumping the gun even looking for it to show up. Think I'll call them anyway tomorrow and see where things stand.

Get a wireless genie mini. You can mount it to the back of your TV only wire would be to plug it in. You would have to get the latest base receiver/dvr for it to connect to. Hope that helps.

If you haven't left the board because you have the patience of my 3 year old here is what you could do. Get a wireless genie mini. You can mount it to the back of your TV only wire would be to plug it in. You would have to get the latest base receiver/dvr for it to connect to. Hope that helps.
new here?  and thx

Called today. They wouldn't give me anything except $20 off per month.  Wouldn't give me any discounts on Sunday Ticket.  I scheduled my disconnect for August 2.  The guy said they will "always welcome me back with a great reconnect offer". We will see.
Scheduled to cancel tomorrow.  Still no call to give me an offers to keep me as a customer.  The annoying thing is they charged me my first month's payment on my Sunday Ticket because I did not call to cancel.  I called them up and asked why they did that since I was canceling service.  They said the ST charge went through before my cancellation request (but both went through on this billing cycle).  I asked if they could credit that amount back to my CC.  They said it doesn't work that way.  I now have to wait a month for the cancellation to process and then they will mail be a Visa gift card for the credit.  Dumb.

When you get Sunday Ticket, even for free, the fine print says you're agreeing to auto renew the following season unless you cancel before the first installment payment. Ive never heard if them issuing a credit for it via a gift card thoigh. That IS dumb.

Yes, but since I was canceling my account and it was scheduled for disconnect, you would think there would be logic built into their system to not charge me for the ST, especially since it was on the same billing cycle.

I called last week to cancel my service tomorrow night. I have not received a confirmation email that service will be shut off.

I have received emails to sell me UFC and HBO/Cinemax though

I just called and cancelled today. Service is getting shut-off tonight. I never use DIRECTV anyways, hoping they call back soon so I can get the ticket.

You only have one TV?  If so, the answer is no.  In my house, we have the genie DVR in a cabinet with one TV and the TV on the wall has the wireless genie box that talks to the dvr.  No wires.  At minimum, you have to have a cable coming from the dish to the receiver in the house, but once in the house everything else can be wireless.

2 tvs.  so put the main box in the bedroom and the wireless genie to the tv on the wall.  thx

Are people actually getting callbacks? I never heard anything from them until I called them myself.
I posted about a week ago how they called me back 4 hours after I setup the cancelation for that night. I've never had them call that quick worked out great.

Ive been a customer for several years.  Cancelled my auto-renew on Sunday Ticket a couple weeks ago but didn't cancel service.  Got an unsolicited email today saying "we want to give you Sunday ticket at no cost just because.". I read the fine print and don't see anything about having to lock into a new contract.  I just had to click the link in the email.

Same here, cancelled my auto-renew on Sunday Ticket, didn't cancel service. But, no email saying we want to give it to you free. Guess it depends on the market? Contract is up shortly so will be doing the cancel routine soon.

I just cancelled my auto-renew. I wasn't looking for a deal today, but they didn't even try to to offer a deal. How things have changed over the years.

My plan is to cancel later this month when my contract is up.    If they offer me a good deal to come back with free Ticket, I'll take it. If not, I'm off to Sling TV.  I've been paying top dollar for 15 years with the premium package. I'm just tired of paying so much for it.

So, I was disconnected at midnight and made the call around 10:00 AM.  Was told by two different reps I had to wait 48 hours before they could offer me the new pricing deals.  I can survive a couple days without, but frustrating nonetheless.  Will update once I see what they offer....
So, to follow up, I tried a third time to get a deal on the 24th only to once again get the same BS about no deals being available until the 48 hour window passed.  It's now been more than a week and I've heard nothing.  I have begun experimenting with Kodi and, right now, have no need for dealing with DTV.  Come September once football gets into full swing, my tune may change, but as of now, it's freeing not being beholden to a TV provider.

Thanks to all in this thread who have helped over the years and good luck to those still fighting the good fight!

Just got off the phone to set up cancel date next week.

ATT cell customer

I use Comcast for Internet but ATT does have high speed in my area.

Currently have Plus with Sports pack.  Besides ST, I order hockey package thru DTV. Contract ended a couple weeks ago.

They actually offered my 50 off a month ×12  and 10 off a month x 6.

They wouldn't offer ST or gift card so I scheduled shut off for 8/2.

I was impressed by initial offer but felt the need to play the game.
They shut off service early this morning instead of late tonight like they said. Called 210- number and ended up with

50 off a month x 12

7 off the Sports package x 6

Free Sunday Ticket Max

Free HBO Showtime Cinemax  next 3 months

Complained about being charged HD fee so they tacked on the $200 gift card

When I call to cancel movie channels in 3 months I'll try to get more of my fees waived.
