CAN'T do it, I've given up on........ (1 Viewer)

Any 49er WR that hasn't produced in previous years and is being called a sleeper in the Josh Morgan and Jason Hill mold.
49ers Harbaugh has made it pretty clear that he is going to go with Alex Smith. I am not sure if you heard about Crabtree's antics a few weeks back in regards to the QB situation. It is clear that Crabtree and Alex Smith do not get along.Disregarding Alex Smith's ability, Crabtree is publicly undermining Harbaugh's first big coaching decision to see what he can do with Alex Smith. This is not going to end well for Crabtree, who is only showing up and spouting off because his contract contains a diva clause. I think Crabtree is a locker room cancer. The 49ers need to seriously consider a trade to move him, but a small possibility does exist for Josh Morgan to be the #1.

I've followed the Crabtree situation pretty closely over the last 2 years & really believe it is way overblown. Crabtree's holdout is a non issue to me, that was an agent issue. Once he reported he showed up in remarkable shape & immediately became the 49ers top receiver. At this point Crabtree was considered an up & coming superstar by the large majority. He comes in & gets hurt during his second season training camp & didn't react well to a Vernon Davis verbal beatdown. Vernon Davis? Really, the same Davis who was a consistent problem until Singletary started stroking his ego after throwing him out of a game on Monday Night Football. My only concern with Crabtree was he did throw Smith under the bus early in season 2 after a bad pass that Smith suggested was Crabtree's mistake. I do feel he is somewhat immature, but he isn't a guy that complains after every loss that he isn't getting his touches & dividing a locker room. Truthfully, put Crabtree on an offense that is somewhat competent, no, not Singletarys Pop-Warner offense, & his problems will probably disappear. Harbaugh will do wonders for this team & Crabtree.

I agree with this, and I'm no particular fan of Crabtree. I just have a hunch that at some point, the people screaming "bust" will be eating some crow. His NFL career has gotten off to a rocky start, but I don't think it has one iota to do with talent and it's nothing that can't be solved.

This thread is just setting people up for failure. I dont think anyone should ever be completely given up on...like Knowshon Moreno or felix Jones. Really? two first round draft picks that have shown flashes, just havnt been able to stay healthy. I'm not saying you have to like them as players, but to say they are certified junk is a little much IMO

What does crabtree do that shows great talent? He has average speed, is lazy, and had veterans like Vernon, his qb smith, and god knows what other teamates pissed at him.He has good hands but that's about it. His yac ability was over-rated in college where he was always wide open with lots of open field, in the NFL he doesn't have the advantage of being open all the time.

An average to at best above average talent who is lazy and unliked by teammates. Sounds like a guy with a great future.

I think this is the year Maroney turns it around so I'm keeping. :excited:

There are so many to give up on, or maybe better said- accept reality on- unless surprised other wise (see Brandon Lloyd) but a couple off the top of my head...

Ronnie Brown?

Moreno

Wells

Let's not turn this into a debate tread, please stay on topic.

Who are you tired of holding onto and it's now time to let them loose?!?!?!

One more comes to mind after Davis...Brandon Gibson
People keep saying players that some really never thought would be anything. Brandon Goibson, did anyone think he or Davis would really amount to anything? I mean that respectfully. :D I'm just saying that, I think people never really believed in them to even really give up on.

Jason Campbell

Laurent Robinson, DHB, Damian Williams, Josh Morgan, Donnie Avery, Brandon Tate, Jerome Simpson, Jacoby Jones,

Jason Snelling, Jerome Harrison, Donald Brown,

Greg Olsen,

He showed some good promise in the NFC divisional game, although, in the NFC championship no one really did well with Cutler getting hurt!

DHB. Great one....but Jerome Simpson after blowing up in his last 3 games? I can totally see the rest though (except Tate...jury's still out on him imo)

Simpson was on my buy list until the draft and the standoff with Palmer. Looks like those 3 games might be the high point of his career.. Time will tell, but I can't bother with him, time to move on...

M Clayton and pretty much any Ram wr from last season
Clayton earned another season with me after the show he put on for the games he did play the beginning of last season. Amendola also deserves a roster spot. If you wouldn't own Rams WR's, I think you're going to miss out on some good stuff. That team is going to produce some WR points. Maybe not top 10, or WR1 production, but there will certainly be WR's worth owning there.

You and I look at it very differently - not saying I'm right and you're wrong. Just that, I don't know how you plan to win a dynasty league if you're operating with the assumption that you never completely give up on anybody. Like my example of Knowshon. I paid a 1st round pick for him and I no longer think he's worth that. But if I can find somebody in my league willing to pay close to that I'm dealing him. Doesn't mean I think Moreno is completely without value. If I wait for every player's value to hit rock-bottom before I decide to give up, instead of getting something in trade I could find myself dumping him to the WW two years from now. Just a different way to look at it is all.

Published Thu Aug 18 2:15:00 p.m. ET 2011(Rotoworld) Anthony Gonzalez is once again missing time with a hamstring injury.Analysis: He missed Wednesday's practice and is questionable for Friday's preseason game against the Redskins. Beat writer Phillip B. Wilson doubts "very seriously" that Gonzalez will be re-signed next year even if he manages to shake his nagging leg injuries and contribute this season.
I think this is going to be the last straw for me with this guy.

And here we are about 2 months later and this guy and Amendola are the only ones w/ roster spots locked up on the Rams?!? Whodathunkit

Jonathan Stewart. That's great that he's ultra talented.
Let's see if he misses games from this injury, then we'll talk. He rarely does, even if he is nicked up.
I don't care if he plays all 16 games. At this rate, he'll be a backup for his first 5 yrs in the league. Tired of waiting.
Maybe that's your definition of rightfully giving up on a guy. I call it being impatient. Remember Micheal Turner?

Of course I remember. If I'm not mistaken, this thread is "I've given up on..." and I'm staying Stewart. At this point, sitting for 5 yrs and getting minimal return on his talent level is frustrating. He's still fetching good value. I'd rather just invest that value elsewhere. Is that ok with you? If you want to call it impatient, go right ahead. I didn't say I'm throwing him away for crap. I said "I've given up on him" and I'd rather take that value and invest it elsewhere. Is that "rightful" enough?

Calm down. Its okay to have a difference of opinion. I've stated mine, and so have you.

Gave up on Beanie Wells. Preseason last year, traded Kevin Kolb, Anthony Gonzalez (who I had given up on last year) and a late first for Beanie and what I thought was trading up at least 6 spots in this year's draft but ended up being one spot.

This year, I traded Beanie, #2 this year (who I would have used to get Ryan Williams if I kept Beanie), and a late first next year for Ray Rice.

So, effectively, I traded Kevin Kolb, AJ Green or Ryan Williams, Dexter McCluster, Anthony Gonzalez and a first next year for Ray Rice.

I'm also ready to give up on Reggie Bush, if someone will give me some value back for him.

I'm a buyer on Jerome Simpson though - takes an extra year for those small school receivers to start lighting it up.
