Arizona Republic - If the Cardinals sign quarterback Kurt Warner for an additional two years, they might look to trade Matt Leinart.

However, given Warner's age trading Leinart would be a hard decision for the team to make. The former USC starter would prefer to remain in Arizona but wants to start.

"I plan on being the quarterback here for a long time," he said. "That's why I came here in the first place. I love it here, so nothing has really crossed my mind."

And here might be the problem.

Could see this happening at the draft there are some teams out there that could use a QB. Off the top of my head Choke Vikes, Lions, KC, SF and sleeper TB.

Not sure that they would get more than a 2nd for him, but they could use that to spice up another part of the team.

If Cassel and one of the CLE QBs are available and possibly Alex Smith, I don't think they get a 2nd for him. I think it might be too low where he sticks with the Cards. Where are the Eagles at with Kolb and McNabb then too? One of Miami's young QBs is probably available. It could be an interesting offseason where GMs are going back to old college tapes and re-gauging how much the scouts love some of these players.

Very misleading thread title. This is just one writer engaging in speculation to fill space. Nothing more. Move along.

How do you trade a player that nobody wants?

This is the quandry Arizona will find themselves in, unless the Vikings and Lions continue to be stupid, that is.

When it comes to the Lions, nothing can surprise me anymore. Also I think Leinart has little more value then Alex Smith (proven bust) and Cassel, also my personal opinion is he's better then derek anderson as well. I'm part of the minority that believe that DA's 2007 season was a mirage.

Isn't this same guy who nearly retired 2 weeks ago?

Are you saying Leinart is nt a proven bust .To make it worst he is a bust on a team loaded with pro bowl WR's.Imagine if he had landed in SF .I dont think he has more value then A Smith.

I though it was because Arizona drafted him? :towelwave:

;) Thought that was Warner quote.

What would Leinart's trade value be? I'm thinking a nice cool Budweiser?
That would be giving up too much. Leinart is atrocious and will never, ever make it in the league as a starter.
How 'bout a half-empty, warm, skunked Pabst Blue Ribbon?
 now, now, don't make fun of my father-in-laws favorite beer. surely Leinart is worth 2 half empty, warm, skunked Pabst Blue Ribbons... :lmao:

I don't know why they would trade Leinart unless they can get a 2nd or 3rd for him (AJ Feeley went for a 2nd, so anything can happen when it comes to QBs), or if they REALLY like Brian St. Pierre (and WhisenGrimm know what they have in him from the time they spent together in Pittsburgh).

Still, I don't see either possibility as very likely - When we talked to Adam Schefter back in the summer and I asked him if Warner could beat out Leinart in training camp, he pretty much dismissed it, indicating that if Leinart wasnt the opening day starter, he's pretty much persona non grata in Arizona, which would be a disaster for him and the team.

(July 23 2008)

BLOOM: This week, many training camps getting under way, and it's an exciting time for us because we get to watch these training camp battles start. One of the ones we'll be watching most closely, in Arizona, at quarterback - Matt Leinart and Kurt Warner. Everybody could see that Warner was the better quarterback last year. How much slack is the team going to give Leinart or is this really a straight up battle and if Warner outplays him in camp, it's Warner's job?

SCHEFTER: I think it's Matt Leinart's job to lose. And if Matt Leinart doesn't win it, then something is wrong with his future and the Cardinals have a problem and they don't have their answer for their quarterback of the future because he's been the guy that they are banking on, that they've invested in that they think will seize that position. He's had the chance to grow up, to mature, to fix some things, to work harder and I just think that, it's Matt Leinart's time. Now, Kurt Warner has been a great player in this league for a long time and still can be a valuable contributor in Arizona. I know he thinks he can start and he could start for some teams in the league. But again, you're taking a guy like Matt Leinart, at the #10 position, who led the productive career he did at USC, they are waiting for him to be a star. This is his time. If he's not a star now, when is he going to be the star?
