Cards ticket plan aims to keep Cowboys fans out

Trying to "protect the nest".

If you have ever been to a Cowboys vs. Cards game at Sundevil Stadium, you will welcome anything that helps keep them out :kicksrock:

That being said, I thought this strategy was at the least peculiar, and bordering on pathetic. We do finally have a home field advantage, a considerable one at that, but this seems like a devious manipulation. If they continue to put an improving product on the field, this bandwagon town will show up in droves and stop selling their tickets to the highest out of town bidders.

This process isnt new. SD has tried it several times esp when it comes to Raider games.

I agree with you that eventually, if the team is good enough it wont be an issue. But for now, they want to try and keep their home as their home.

This has been happening to Packer Fans for years. Tampa, Detroit, Chicago and I think the Vikes have all put restrictions on Packer Fans and Packer Games.

Wow, I didn't know that. I am assuming it must be somewhat effective and accepted. Like I said, I approve of the overall effect if it works, but it just seems a little shady

Same is true for the Steelers...

the Cardinals are requiring fans who want to buy tickets to the Dallas game on Oct. 12 to also buy tickets for the Aug. 7 exhibition opener vs. New Orleans.
I read it more as they are trying to make more money off the Cowboys recent success. The Washington Wizards do the same thing here in DC. If you want to see the Lakers play, you have to buy 3 games. As usual, it's about money.

I got this notice in the mail from the Cards. Not sure it will hinder Cowboys fans from buying tickets for a couple of reasons. (1) most of the Cowboy fans who show up at the Cardinals game will be from Phoenix, not Texas. It doesn't take advantage of the distance thing like the Cards are thinking (2) The Cowboy fans always pay top dollar for scalped tickets anyway. I know. I've sold to them before and I will again this year. (Sorry, I can't just walk away from a wad of cash) The cost just isn't enough to deter anyone. They probably should have thrown in a third game to really make this work.

BTW, there are a lot of Georgia fans buying ASU Sun Devil season tickets this year just for that one game in Tempe.

I think KC did it too last year. I can't blame teams for doing it. Packer fans travel well, and it's the only way some teams can sell out their preseason games.

Negative.
Please, we've been complaining about this for over a decade. And its not just division teams. Its damn near everywhere.
Its gone so far that on several occasions city leaders and team owners have spoke out about not letting Steeler fans buy tickets. :towelwave:
It happened to Packer Fans in Tampa Bay when they were division rivals. Ticket orders for the GB/TB game were only taken by mail and all postmarks had to be from Florida.

I think this has been a practice of the Dolphins for years when it comes to the Jets, as well. It's that New York-Miami connection.

The Washington Capitals did something similar to Penguins fans several years ago during the Stanley Cup playoffs. They were blocking access from 412 & 724 area codes. Trouble was, enough people from Da Burgh lived in MD/DC/VA that it didn't work. I agree, fielding a quality team keeps the visiting fans out.

Just curious, do you have examples? I know for a fact the Bengals don't do this now due to being all season tickets (for several years now) and didn't at the old stadium either. The browns don't sell out every game without something like this? The Ravens?

I think it is just a way to make sure they get tickets sold to the preseason games. They pick the game(s) that will be the most popular and attach a preseason game to it.

Because Steelers fans are :excited: just to get out of Pittsburgh for a weekend.
But honestly, though. Who wants people from Texas, Green Bay, or Pittsburgh visiting their city? Blech.
 I'm sure you guys' city is Valhalla & Brigadoon combined.Stay classy. TIA.
:confused:BTW, I sure hope they enjoy the look of all those empty seats they get in place of the Cowboy fans who won't be there.

You are missing the point; Cowboy fans will buy that package because it will be cheaper than the price of the scalped tickets. That game will be sold out and Arizona will sell out their preseason game in the process.

This doesn't stop the Cowboy fan from paying for the tickets on Ebay for more than face value... or the Cowboy fan selling the NO ticket for below face value.

Good idea, good intentions, but flawed up the wah-zoo

Well, while I'm sure they're all able to do so, some will and some won't. You're assuming they were all buying high-priced scalped tickets in the first place. Whatever, the owners won't lose money. It's not in their nature. In the meantime, guess who gets the shaft, too? That's right folks, the hometown fans who want to buy tix to that game.

There are allot of Cowboy fans in the Phoenix area and I am not talking "America's Team Fans". They are hard core Cowboy Fans and they will play a premium to see Dallas play when they come to town. This is not about fans in Texas this is about the home town fans. When that game rolls around check out what tickets are going for and like I said, it will be a sell out.

Maybe its cause they are on the other coast, but the chargers do not care about the steelers. Its oak and prob denver that gets this treatment.Maybe its PITT's management facilitating this conspiracy theory???

Huh? Its not from the management, its from our fan and media reports. I dont recall hearing the mngmt ever discussing the issue. The Chargers actually had no issue selling to the Steeler fans... and if everyone recalls that last MN game they had - the Steeler fans packed the stadium.

Or dont you recall Madden saying the stadium was overrun? That is what teams have been trying to avoid vs the Steeler faithful for many years.

Kudos to the Chargers organization for not flinching.

I think the point is that this happens to a number of teams occasionally every year but not all the time. You make it sound like the entire NFL is out to get Steeler fans.I remember only a couple of years ago Steeler fans took over the Pitt/Dallas game in Dallas and the announcers made a comment about steeler fans out numbering Cowboy fans. Steeler fans do travel well and I do enjoy sitting next to them when they come to town.

Every team does this, is almost every sport. 1995 called, they want their "news flash" back.
