Carney/Tynes news? (1 Viewer)

Up till last week Carney was the top scoring kicker in my league. He is still the top FA kicker even after his bye. Any news on Tynes? Is he healthy yet? Carney has been perfect on a good team with lots of opportunities, while Tynes is supposed to be coming back this week? Is this all correct?

Yes, it's a kicker thread

Coughlin:

How about Lawrence Tynes and the kicking situation?

We are very fortunate to have two kickers of this ability and we are just going to make sure that everything is the way it should be before anything changes the way we have been working. I would say probably week-to-week.

When you say you want to make sure that everything is the way it should be would that include making sure he can get through a game?

It means everything. It means everything, just like I said. He has had two full pregame warm ups, which he has done pretty well on. He continues to feel better and feel stronger with each passing week, so we are in a good situation right now.

Would you consider dressing two kickers for a game?

It is always a consideration, but it is something that…let’s just say from a general standpoint you would like to have the extra player be somebody that will help you on special teams. And I mean that in terms of a cover player, a big four player, not a kicker. It has been done, I have done it myself, it is not an easy decision to make.

Good to hear, keep the news coming. Carney and Tynes are both available in my league as well and I love the idea of picking up a kicker who has already had their bye week. Now I just need to pick up the right guy, Tynes, and hope he doesn't have a setback (injury, missing kicks) that causes the Giants to turn back to Carney.

You could always start one in your flex position.

can someone in the area run down to Giants practice and see how Tynes' knee looks? Who's getting more reps this week?

TIA

(I'd hate to drop Carney with a nice matchup vs Sea, but he is just a kicker...)

From Fanball:

THE NEWS

It looks like Lawrence Tynes is still not close to returning to the Giants. After every workout, Tynes' left knee swells up, according to the AP.

Our View

With Tynes still on the mend, John Carney will continue the place kicking duties.

"The important thing is for me to be healthy and get back to 100 percent, which I am not at. I keep thinking I am, but after each workout I keep having swelling in my knee. I am going to go in and treat it because it is swelling right now. It's just a matter of time before I get it under control."
