Does S. Smith have any value for this season or in dynasty. What plays out for him; where is his contract status and will CAR ever get him a QB that can get him the damn ball? Are we talking grin and bear it, or an outright release? Should he be targeted as a buy-low candidate? For the purpose of this post, please assume that a team will have; a limited ability to hold onto a non-performing player [small roster], and needs to strengthen their WR's position.

His best and only shot at decent production this season is having Matt Moore retake the QB job. In PPR Smith had 33 points in my league in the first two weeks before Moore got the hook. I think Moore does take this job back at some point this season. If Smith is healthy when that happens I think you are looking at low end WR2 type production at the minimum.

In dynasty he's kind of in limbo. I mean, if he were to get a new QB and coach that may be better or worse for him. He might find himself on the outside looking in on a rebuilding project. He might find himself catching the rock for Aaron Rodgers or Tony Romo too though. You just never know. Talent wise, I've watched him a lot and I've seen every single game Greg Jennings has played and he's better than Jennings is just for a point of reference. He's right up in that top group right below the super elite upper tier guys.

So I think he's a buy low in redraft if you think you can make the playoffs without him. He might be a nice little wr3 at the end when the money is on the line. In dynasty he's a hold probably. If you can be him really really cheap, then get him. He's probably got 3 or 4 more years of production left. And remember his game is about attitude, that doesn't soften with age. His game isn't about running faster than the d-backs. Its about just taking the damn ball away from them.

Agree with Sabertooth. Nice post. I took him as my WR4 last night in the Ult Surv draft under the premise (hope) that Moore will be back in the next week or two.

I know the QB is a main concern but is he not expected back week 7? I just shot an offer for him in hopes of WR3 capability min..costing me Holmes so Im concerned if hes expected to miss time after the bye.

Been getting kicked while down too much defending Steve's ability to produce with any QB. I am back to earth. With Moore in place he has a shot at getting back to a WR #2 status. With Clausen in place he worries me as a Fantasy #3. I agree with Sabertooth. He was completely fantasy viable with Moore at the helm. Plenty of historical data to look at as well.

I cut bait before the season in my dynasty league, got a 2nd round pick in return and I'm pretty happy about that. Think I drafted a backup TE.

IMO Smitty is done, he is getting older and taking much longer to come back from injuries (and getting injured more frequently). The team is in shambles and I just don't see any upside to him beyond a WR3.

However I then took him as my WR2 in my main redraft league. Just can't quit you Smitty!

While at 0-5, my fear is that the team may decide to PUP some injured players in an effort to create roster spots for some of the young talent to both get evaluated and to get some quality reps. As a Smith owner myself - I'm hoping that Moore gets back into the lineup and that Smith has some "performance based incentives" that the team will allow him to go after once he's healthy again.

That said - unless I get a trade offer that is worthwhile, I'm rostering him in hopes that he does play again this year, especially since they picked up Devin Thomas off waivers from Wash. Curious to see how that all plays out.

I just got Smith as a throw-in in a large trade. I could've chosen Stewart, Royal, or Nate Washington instead. FWIW.

I don't think I'd trade Santonio Holmes away for him. I expect Holmes to get better and better in that offense.

I'm still rostering him. I could really use a WR3 & I hope he can be one. I doubt Smith is back Week 7, I suspect Week 8 is more likely. Even then, he'll probably be hobbled for another week or 2.

If Moore is the starter, a healthy Smith is top-20 easily. I'm hoping it's Moore after the bye, I'm sure we all are.

I pretty much agree with this.

Since we're starting to name names, where does Smith fit in from here on out? Are we talking B. Lloyd/M. Wallace or D. Bess/D. Mason level? Or is his upside in dynasty just to high to rate for this season?

For this season he is worse than all of those. Dynasty-wise his value is up in the air.
