Bengals | C. Johnson not practicing Thursday

Thu, 18 Oct 2007 09:40:04 -0700

Mark Curnutte, of the Cincinnati Enquirer, reports Cincinnati Bengals WR Chad Johnson (undisclosed) is not participating in practice Thursday, Oct. 18.

Anyone have an idea what his situation is?

from USA Today:

Chad Johnson sat out practice Thursday for undisclosed reasons.

Why do people hate Johnson so much? I've always been fairly entertained by him.
I've noticed that fans are less accepting of loud, brazen NFL players than they are in other sports. Chad definitely gets more love than Moss and Owens, but he has his share of haters that are turned off by anything resembling Self Promotion.

I heard from a Detroit beat writer that all is not warm and fuzzy in Cinci with CJ.

Marvin and Chad have had some run ins.

I like Chad the guy and from an entertainment standpoint. I also own CJ.However, if I was his team-mate my opinion changes fast. His act is getting old, just my 0.02.

From the Bengals message board:

A couple notables were back at practice Thursday, including safety Madieu Williams and tight end Reggie Kelly. But the others who were listed on Wednesday's "Did Not Participate in Practice" portion of the injury report - linebacker Ahmad Brooks, wide receiver Antonio Chatman, running back Rudi Johnson, linebacker Corey Mays and linebacker Caleb Miller - also didn't work Thursday.

Johnson was dressed in sweats and it didn't look like he was even going to do any work on the side. Wide receiver Chad Johnson wasn't dressed, although it looks like he's just getting a rest. Also, running back Chris Perry appeared in shoulder pads and looked like he was going to work on the side for a second consecutive day. Right tackle Willie Anderson practiced for the second straight day, which is a good sign for his availablity to play this Sunday against the New York Jets.

Probably because he's more interested in things being about himself than his team.
Do yourself a favor and look into when he visited Africa in the offseason. On the field the guy is a clown and likes to have more fun than anyone. Off the field he is actually a pretty standup guy. How many times have you heard his name mentioned in arrests???Get over the hate for Chad because he shreds your team and then pompously dances about it....I look forward to seeing what he will do this weekend vs. my boys in green!

Why is there such a assumption that he is a god awful teamate?? I've never heard a teammate talk bad about him, never had a controversey between him and his QB or other Wrs.

I like Chad, but don't think I'd post something like this when the team is 1-4.
Just cause the team is not winning means a player cant be successful?? And previous years don't count???I'm sure the Browns fans are glad they won that game, but him leaping into the Dawg-Pound with stick with them much longer.

What does anything that you said have anything to do with what I said? CJohnson is probably a great guy off the field, but clearly there's an issue there between him and his coach.

Because by not getting himself in trouble, and staying focused on being able to play on Sundays, he IS being a team player. Guys like Vick, PacMan, Henry (travis and chris) in my eyes are far worse "team" players because when they were off the field they dont think what they did could count against what they do on field.I'd rather have a guy who dances and clowns around after a TD, but stays legit Mon-Sat on my team then someone who doesnt realize being a team player is a 24/7 responsibilty.

What about the Chad Johnson that gets into shouting matches and throws punches at coaches during halftime of playoff games when the team is winning?I agree that he shouldn't be compared with guys like Vick and Adam Jones but the fact is, perception is reality and he is perceived as a selfish self promoter who cares more about his next endzone dance then the teams victory.Right or wrong that is the image he has created for himself, now he can reap what he has sown.Interestingly enough I don't think people feel the same way about T.O. and I think that is probably because T.O. is also known for his sick work ethic, competitiveness and desire to win at all costs.

You're wrong, been listening to PFT too much I see. He never threw a punch at a coach, that is something the reliable media made up. Don't use false facts when organizing an argument, it kills any shred of credibility you have.

Bengals | C. Johnson not practicing Thursday

Anyone have an idea what his situation is?
(KFFL) Updating a previous report, Mark Curnutte, of the Cincinnati Enquirer, reports Cincinnati Bengals WR Chad Johnson (ankle) did not participate in practice Thursday, Oct. 18, because he was given the day off to rest a sore ankle, according to head coach Marvin Lewis. He will start Week 7.There is the answer.

In the process of getting the right answer for you, we have heard how Chad is a bad person, bad teammate, hates his coach, punches coaches, is a selfish ******* and is responsible for the war in Iraq, Global Warming, WW2 and also is going to lead the world marching to the apocolypse.

Sore ankle, non story. :jawdrop:

You are not the arbiter of my credibility. Are you saying the shouting match didn't happen? The punch? I have also heard that it was a shove but no one is denying that Chad had to be restrained, which apparently may or may-not have happened again during halftime of the Patriots game this year.

Believe what you want, I am more than okay putting my faith in Florio because unlike the rest of the media he openly admits when he is wrong, and posts that information front and center just like everything else. If there had been any contradictory reports Florio would have posted those as well.

The player who leaked a description of a halftime tirade by receiver Chad Johnson during the Bengals' 31-17 playoff loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers â€" and according to coach Marvin Lewis, embellished events to cause a controversy. "It's already taken care of," Lewis said Monday, as the NFL's scouting combine in Indianapolis concluded. "He's already gone." I would suggest the PFT guys have a talk with their "source" about helping make their site regain whatever credibility it had. I'm sure they can cook something up. I hope they had a good amount of hits.

"Our wide receiver (Chad Johnson) was upset that we weren't doing exactly what we thought we could do on offense, that's all," Lewis said. "He didn't do anything other than be upset and raise his voice. He needed to calm down and relax." An Internet site claimed Johnson scuffled with receivers coach Hue Jackson and swung at Lewis. Johnson denied the fisticuffs. "Have you ever seen Chad punch anybody?" Lewis said. "All right, so how ridiculous would that be? You can't even fathom that."I don’t think I need to respond to some knucklehead’s rumor. It’s laughable for anyone to think that Chad would swing or push anybody. They really don’t know him. It is what it is. It’s over with. It’s done and we move forward. So Chaka, you calling Marvin Lewis a Liar? Don't believe everything you read at PFT. They are garbage.

Nice usage of the euro symbol. Wow.What would you expect a head coach to say? "I've completely lost control and the ship is heading towards the mother of all iceberg's and there is nothing I can do about it because I coddle prima donna players who flout my authority at every turn. And my only way of dealing with this is to cut the guy who let the world know that we are going to sink."I agree, don't believe everything you read. Again I will go with Florio, if by extension that means I am calling Marvin Lewis a liar then yes, yes I am.ETA: Do the Bengals look like a sinking ship to you, or is it just me?

I don't believe PFT is that accurate but if it DID happen, what was Lewis supposed to say?

Sinking ship for sure, no defense whatsoever, no run game = recipe for losing in the NFL.

Why do people hate Johnson so much? I've always been fairly entertained by him.
I like Chad the guy and from an entertainment standpoint. I also own CJ.However, if I was his team-mate my opinion changes fast. His act is getting old, just my 0.02.
Why is there such a assumption that he is a god awful teamate?? I've never heard a teammate talk bad about him, never had a controversey between him and his QB or other Wrs.
I love CJ...just acquired him in a trade to pair w/ Carson. BUT, the two of them have been yapping at each other the past couple of games, and it seems to me that all 4 of Carson's INTs the past 2 games have come w/ CJ as the target. It seems there is at least some discord between the two. I sure as heck hope they resolve things soon--my fantasy football life depends on it.
So he is a bad teammate because in one game after a INT when Johnson ran the wrong route they were getting animated with each other on the sideline. Got it, I suppose that article that came out when he apologized makes him a crappy teammate too.No one has yet posted any reliable info that Johnson is this god awful teammate.

No one has yet posted any reliable info that Johnson is this god awful teammate.
No one posted any reliable info that Johnson is a good teammate either.Like I said, perception is reality. He created the perception that he is a selfish teammate so that is the reality he must live with.ETA: Prepared statement apologies after the fact mean very little.

I've never been given the impression that he is a selfish teammate. He always wants the ball, but what WR doesn't? Anytime I see a Bengals game and Housh scores Johnson looks happy, always runs up and congratulates him.His TD celebrations have been silly, but they haven't taken away anything from the team.

Just thought I'd add that CJ is giving up all celebrations until the team is at least .500. Don't know if that was his own idea or a suggestion from Lewis, but it's a good idea either way.

I've also heard that he patterns his offseason workouts and practice rituals after Jerry Rice. Don't know if that's true or not, but if he does his work ethic is just fine.

I didn't make the statment that CJ is a "bad" team mate... I was just addressing the assertion made regarding the lack of controversy between he & Carson...

what controversy?? They got into it a little bit on the sidelines, then Johnson apologized about it later

I've heard TJ Houshmenzadeh and Carson Palmer both talk about Chad and say things such as "He is a great teammate" "He is a hard worker, He is a perfectionist" "I love Chad, he is my friend". Try watching NFLN sometime, you'll see comments by teammates all the time and you'll also see how much everyone around the league loves Chad, people such as Ray Lewis, Bart Scott, Leigh Bodden, DeAngelo Hall and Bill Belicheck right off the top of my head. I honestly don't think there is a player out there who is liked more than Chad Johnson.
