Chad Pennington suffered an ankle injury this week. The crowd cheered loudly when Clemens took the field. Last night during MNF (or prior to) reports from the Jets were hard to find, however, allegedly teammates are saying they are concerned it is a severe injury. There was either an MRI yesterday or one later today.

has anybody heard anything???

This QB battle was close in camp. Clemens could have some value.

Per Daily News beat writer Rich Cimini, the ankle may be fractured. Cimini isn't always right, but is pretty plugged in. So there could be something to it. From his blog:

How bad is the ankle? Hard to say. Pennington, without crutches or a walking boot, left the stadium under his own power. He was limping badly, but he was able to walk up the exit ramp to a waiting car. That was encouraging, but I also heard unsubstantiated rumors, originating from the locker room, that his ankle is fractured. I want to stress the word "unsubstantiated." Hopefully, Eric Mangini will provide an update today, but don't hold your breath.
ETA: this is from yesterday, so I would definitely take it with a grain of salt

I don't think anyone has any idea. You're about as likely to get information out of Mangini as you are Weeb Ewbank. We're not going to know.

word is that New England had a team physician on the field with an illegal MRI device shooting Pennington's ankle. Theyre awaiting the results.

NFL Network's Adam Schefter confirms that Chad Pennington will not start Sunday's matchup with Baltimore. Kellen Clemens will get the nod.

Clemens will make his first big league start against a vaunted defense. Pennington is believed to have suffered a high ankle sprain in Week 1.

Clayton just said Chad is going to try out his ankle this morning, and see how it feels. He has been feeling better the last couple days. Clayton said the chance of him playing today is 50/50 right now.

ESPN just reported that Adam Schefter reports Clemens will start today.

ETA: My bad, I had the channel on NFL Network, not ESPN.

Glazer on FOX reports High Ankle Sprain ("HAS") - 20% chance to play today, likely just going to evaluate his chances to be the #2.

Clemens likely to start.
