Championship Tie Breaker Rules (1 Viewer)

I just got hosed in the Championship game in my league. The "normal" game ended in a draw. The only "tie breaker" rules that we have in place are for determining the final standings at the end of the regular season. As a result, my opponent was annointed the Champion based on his 9-5-1 record as compared to my 9-6 record. (I don't like the fact that this league plays into the 17th week, but that is a topic for another day.)

I understand the use of this method for determining who is eligible for the play-offs, but this seems like a rather arbitrary way to determine the league champion. I will be recommending a change in our rules at next year's draft and would like to hear what other leagues use as Championship/Play-off Tie Breakers.

Our rules,

Ties will be broken by using each players highest non QB reserve roster player score. In case of another tie, we will continue down the reserve roster until a QB is reached by one or both teams at which time the game will be treated as a tie.

This still allows for ties but since our scoring is in hundredths of a point, it is practically never going to happen.

We seed all of the playoff teams and give a "Home Field Advantage" to the higher seed team in head to head games. Therefore the higher seeded team from the regular season per their division always wins the tiebreaker.

I do not at all agree with using substitutes as any determining factor in a game. Bench scoring should not all of a sudden count in an outcome. Players cannot score from the bench.

One league the higher seed automatically wins ties and in my other league we take the total points of QB, highest scoring RB, and highest scoring WR starters. Normally start QB, 2RB, 3WR. We use decimal scoring so ties are less of a problem.

"Tiebreakers for the playoff games are as follows:

1. Highest scoring non-starter

2. Second-highest scoring non-starter

3. Next-highest scoring non-starter (and so on until the tie is broken)

4. Coin flip"

Hundreths scoring here as well, so a tie is unlikely. Although I agree bench scorers aren't officially players, it's better to reward the championship based on some aspect of the actual owners' teams rather than using "seeding". Seeding determines who you play, and should not impact the outcome of the game after that point.

As a side note... The championship in my league last year was won by .05!!! I couldnt believe it....$700

First tie breaker in our league.

Kicker points that week. Most ties are settled by the kicker in real games, so we decided to do it that way too.

If still tied, Highes QB/RB/WR combo, then QB, highest RB, highest WR. Coin toss.
