Chances Falcons Get a Quality Coach! (1 Viewer)

Slim to none. Any good coach will also want to be the GM but there is no way that Blank will pull Mckays head out of his rear to give the coach all the power.... They will settle for who ever will take the job... Which will be some other college coach looking for his Big Break in the NFL...

I think they get a good coach, who is currently a NFL assistant. There are plenty of sharp assistants in the league. Singletary, Garrett, etc.

I wouldnt mind seeing Singletary or Garrett either one of them would be a good coach and I would love to for them to get Garrett after the crap Jerry Jones pulled with Arkansas and Petrino.

I'm starting to think Schwartz is a decent bet. He could make that team into a contender in 2 years.

The prevailing wisdom is that it will be Singletary.

I'd bet my salary that whoever it is will be black. There are many qualified black coaches to take the position, and it will go a long way toward appeasing the fan base.

Singletary is the easy choice - I have little doubt that he will end up being of the best HCs in the league.
That's a heckuva mess to clean up in Atlanta. I know it's the NFL, and fortunes can turn on a dime ... but it's a bigger-than-normal task in front of him.

I believe this is completely wrong. I think the HC job in ATL is actually quite desirable for a new coach coming in. I'm not sure what other teams may be looking for a new coach but here is what ATL brings:1) A young team with players that have lots of playing time2) A lot of draft picks in April 2008. In addition those picks will likely be slotted in a very nice position.3) A small core of some pretty good players.4) The latitude to build the team exactly how the new coach will want it to be built.5) An owner who is driven to make the team competitive above all else6) Top notch facilities7) An attractive cityCoaches aren't typically hired to go to 1st place teams. What happened in San Diego and Dallas last year are an anomaly and by no means considered normal. New coaches are hired to go to bad teams. Atlanta is a team that has had a lot of bad things happen to them. That is the difference. No team would be competitive with all of the events that occurred to the Falcons this season. A multitude of black-swan events that were impossible to predict. There are some cap issues around the Vick contract, but my guess is that the league and its owners will be sympathetic towards that if at all possible...it is far better for the league to be competitive top to bottom. In the end there are very few NFL head coaching jobs. The franchise will be motivated the the nth degree to make sure the HC is top notch. If I were a HC candidate looking for a franchise with potential...Atl...a franchise where with just a little success, I could become the greatest coach in franchise history...Atl...and if I didn't think I could do those things...I'd have no business being a HC at the NFL level.

I agree. Thats why I'm selfishly hoping that the Bears make him an assistant head coach/DC to make him next in line as HC for the Bears if/when Lovey leaves.

I think Singletary is going to be a very good head coach and would be a great hire for ATL. If the Giants have an opening and he is available at the time, I would definitely want him to be on the short list.

I'm not sure which knucklehead in the ATL front office passed on Mason Crosby in the 6th round!! How the heck anyone believes you can just keep leaning on a 50 yr old who doesn't have the leg strength to compete is beyond me. We knew Morten/Koenen wasn't the answer well before the draft!

We haven't had any leadership in ATL since Dan Reeves!!!!

The guy who is finishing the season is highly regarded. They may rehire him.
Emmit Thomas has been with the organization since Blank took over, if they thought of him as a head coach he would have been named HC years ago. The Falcons have to make a major impact to make the fans happy and hiring Emmit Thomas ( not taking anythign away from him) but that would not make the statement they need to make right now.Just my opinion.

I heard on sports radio today that Cowher is not ready to return to coaching yet and Marty wants to remain retired. For me personally, I would LOVE to see Singletary in there. I really think he has put in the work to be a good coach and has learned what it takes to be good. I think players would really respect him as well. I also agree with one of the above posts in that whoever gets ATL is getting a good, young team with a lot of potential.
