For the past few years I've been hearing that Crowder was in line to take over Thomas's role when he was gone. Now that he is, what do Crowder's prospects look like this year? What has anyone heard about his likely role and how that will affect his IDP potential?
Unless I'm mistaken, but didn't he also "take over" for Zach last year, as well?? If so, how are Crowder owners expecting a huge jump in production?? Granted...the guy will get his tackles, but the BIG plays needed to make the leap into star status have always been lacking.

He had some pretty good games after Thomas went down before he went down himself, but he only had 1 sack and no INTs in that time. His tackle numbers in those 4 games were 8, 12, 12, and 6, but the lack of big plays does concern me.
Crowder averaged nearly eight solo tackles a game over his last five games, which projects to 121 solos over a full season. Counting two additional earlier games when he wasn't quite as productive in Thomas' absence, Crowder still projected to 105 solos. Parcells' 3-4 defense isn't the most favorable scheme for an IDP prospect, but the Miami defense may be on the field a bunch and there's absolutely no one else in the front seven to beat Crowder to the ball.
It'd be nice if he added some sacks or coverage stats, but that's scoring system dependent. The FBG consensus currently has him Crowder outside the top 35. I've got him at 25, which really isn't out of the question if Crowder can reach 90 solos. The Dolphins faced over 100 more rushing attempts than the average NFL team last year. I'm not sure how that changes significantly this season. Frankly, it'd be surprising if Crowder didn't put up 90 solos if he plays a full season.
Also worth mentioning: The Miami scorer is generous with tackle and assist stats. If you have Crowder, and are debating starting him, if he's at home, that should swing it.

Is that universally true, or is that only true with Zach Thomas? The reason this question occurs to me is that I drafted Gooden assuming he's the heir apparent to Lewis in Baltimore (which has another friendly scorer), and started wondering how much of that favorable treatment was due to a given player's star power rather than simply being a homer.
