**Chargers at Vikings** (Pk'em, 54) 1:00 (1 Viewer)

WTF was all that? They didn't have that much time to begin with, woulda been MUCH better off just spiking it

If I didn't know better, I would say that both of those teams were intentionally trying to lose that game.

Mattison finds a crease on the left side and breaks a tackle on the first defender gaining an extra 7-8 yards after contact. 15 yard gain. Key block was the double team by Cleveland and Schlotmann to open the hole. Darrisaw kicks his defender outside.

Same play defended a bit better this time. Mattison breaks a tackle near the LOS and gains 5 yards.

SD has a free defender who looks like he may blitz on the left side. Mattison shifts over to the other side of Cousins in the shotgun to pick him up. Mattison fails the block but gets enough of the defender that Darrisaw is able to get over to finish him off. Cleveland is pushed back and the defender is able to get a arm in Cousins throwing lane as he makes the throw which wobbles a bit falling short of Jefferson coming across on the left side. Thankfully not intercepted. 2 defenders in the area due to the short throw likely due to a slight deflection by the defender. Clevelands fault but also Mattisons as Cousins had to step up to where Cleveland is getting pushed back to avoid the outside defenders rush.

Shotgun protection is alright as first but ONeil gets beat by an inside spin move by the defender who is able to hit Cousins as he steps up and releases the throw to Jefferson on the middle left of the field. Jefferson gets behind the defense after motioning inside to use the rub off the slot WR on a corner route. Because of the contact as Cousins thrwo it is too short for Jefferson who was a few yards ahead of his defender. If this ball is on target likely a TD.

After the punt the Chargers try to run with Kelly off left tackle. Although Mattelis is blocked back by the tackle 2 other defenders are able to fill and stop Kelly for 3 yard gain.

False start by the Chargers pushes them into the end zone. Herbet is almost hit by Hunter as he throws to the right sideline where Mike Williams is able to dig the ball out of the dirt and make the catch although he is being blanketed by Murray. KOC challenges the catch but it stands.

Shotgun play action Herbet finds Keenan Allen wide open on the left sideline after a comeback route. No Vikings defender even near him on screen. Allen is able to turn back upfield for extra yards before Evans is able to get back to make the tackle. Evans is 10 to 15 yards deeper than Allen when he turns back for the catch. Rookie Pace is about 6 yards in front of Allen with the underneath coverage assignment.

Flare pass to Allen on the right side that does not pick up much.

Shotgun. Herbert with plenty of time but holds the ball too long. Wonnum pushes the left tackle into him as he throws causing the pass to be high. Palme tries to jump up and get it but its too high.

Shotgun Herbert with plenty of time again. Another high throw to the left side. Murphy is able to get a piece of it as it comes down. Johnston the target here.

Kicker fails a 53 yard FG attempt giving the Vikings good field position.

Mattison from a very deep set gets stopped at the LOS falling forward for a yard.

Mattison with a short catch over the middle. The blitzing defender who Mattison would be assigned if he stayed back to block gets a hit on Cousins but the throw is on target and well placed this time. Mattison tackled immediately as he is still going sideways toward the sideline when tackled.

Cousins to Jefferson on a quick comeback route that gets the 1st down. Jefferson is double covered.

False start. Most of the offensive line goes before the snap here.

Cousins finds Hockenson on a stop route.

2nd and 5 Mattison is able to side step the defender who has beat Schlotmann on the play but is then tackled by the defender crashing inside getting off of ONeils block. Ingram blocks the LB downfield instead of the defensivelineman in frost of him who Schlottmann fails to pick up. Hard angle for Schlotmann there and I think that was Ingrams guy. Otherwise poorly designed play.

3rd and 4 shotgun. Initial pressure from ONeil failing to make his block on defender knifing inside (again) then defender beats Schlotmanns block for the sack. Lots of defenders converging on Cousins here who smartly pulls the ball down after the initial pressure. I guess. At least it wasn't a fumble. Everyone but Darrisaw gets beat here. Cleveland is free but does not impede the defender enough when he does get there to help Schlotmann. Darrisaws man gets free at the end to pile on but Cousins was already in the grasp by then.

Decent punt to the left corner but the guy in the area isn't able to keep it from going into the end zone. Maybe needed a bit more air on that one.

Kelly able to evade the initial contact by Lowry who is unblocked and manages to get 6 yards on 1st down. Piss poor tackle attempt by Lowry. He had him, just needs to wrap up.

Pistol. Mattelus comes on the blitz picked up by the RB but he does get an arm on Herbert who is able to step out of it. Allen wide open not a defender within 10 yards of him after he comes back across the field over the middle. Allen is able to turn upfield and gain extra yards down the sideline after the catch due to no defender close to pick him up.

Toss to Keenan Allen behind the LOS who throws deep to Mike Williams for an easy TD. No one near Williams or Palmer downfield. Theo Jackson the only defender on screen about 10 yards behind the 2 Charger receivers.

Shotgun play action Cousins finds Hockenson down the seam.

Play action. Schlotmann fails to pick up the safety blitzing inside instead double teaming with Ingram on the defensive tackle. Cleveland gets his guy but the safety comes free between the gap between the LG and Center. That has to be Schlotmanns guy. Mattison tries to pick him up but Cousins is scrambling in the pocket to avoid this defender then barely gets the ball out before his knee hits the field when another defender is tackling him. This defender was the one double teamed by Schlotmann and Cleveland but somehow gets around them both to the inside gap where the safety came through initially. Nice job guys.

Cousins to Addison on a stop route over the middle. Addison hit hard after the catch.

Cousins has Chandler on a delayed route over the middle but decides to run instead and actually picks up the 1st down. Not much of a block by Chandler once he turns to help Cousins out. Maybe the right decision here by Cousins as although he has Chandler open the defender is barreling down on him and would likely make contact at about the time the ball got to Chandler.

Play action. Cousins checks down o Chandler who is tackled immediately. 4 yard gain.

The announcers saying the Chargers are the worst defense in the NFL (not sure if that is true or not) but that they are playing well today. Vikings offensive line will do that for a defense.

2 TE play action boot left with Jefferson coming around to the left side. He is covered. Cousins throws it to him anyways incomplete.

Cant see the next play other stuff in the way on screen. Pressure on Cousins who the announcers say throws off his back foot incomplete.

Wow. This game was entertaining for sure.
Do you think The Vikes throw it in and trade Kirk?
To who?

The Jets feel like more than a QB away from their “Super Bowl” season.

The truth is, there’s plenty more time left in the season. And the rest of the NFC north doesn’t look great by any means.

Well from an outsider looking in The Vikes aren't as good as The Lions or Packers. I'll give you a leg up on The Bears. I don't think third place in The Norris gets you in the tournament

9 Turnovers in 3 games, that's a recipe for losing.

Mattison hits a crease off left guard. Good push by Cleveland here. Pretty good run and gains some yards after contact. Holding I am guessing by Schlotmann, maybe ONeil on the backside of the play called and they go back 10 yards.

Shotgun 3 WR left Jefferson in motion to the right. Cousins hits Addison on a stop route on the left side and Addison is able to power his way through the tackle for extra yards and a 10 yard gain.

Shotgun and another strike to Addison on a quick out. The defender is all over him here and he gets driven back from the catch point.

Another quick out to Addison on the left side and he is able to get the 1st down although being tackled right away after the catch.

Plenty of time in the pocket for Cousins here. He finds Addison on a come back route on the right side. Cousins pushes the ball too far here and Addison could have done a better job coming back to the ball if Cousins gives him more space to do so. Samuel is able to get a hand in on the ball and knock it away. Somewhat of a rookie mistake I think here, Jefferson likely gets this ball, but again Cousins pushed the pass a bit too far downfield as well, even though he had plenty of time and no pressure on him. Maybe could have gotten the ball out a tick sooner as well.

Shotgun trips right. Draw play to Mattison. Good blocking here vs a light front. Mattison is able to weave his way to the crease on the left side for a good gain. ONeil seals the defender to the outside and Ingram actually get a good block here although he ends up falling down with the defender at the end of it just as Mattison is getting past the block. Mattison gets his head down and gains extra yards after 3 defenders collapse in on him.

Shotgun. Pretty good pocket that Cousins is able to step up in but he must not like what he sees downfield and holds the ball. ONeil fails to finish his block on Tuli Tuipulotu who ends up getting the sack on Cousins from the backside after he steps up. Ingram blocked no one on this play.

Low snap to Cousins which he handles fine. Pass rush is getting there right away. He finds Jefferson over the middle who is a bit ahead of the closest defender and is able to run the rest of the way up the middle for the TD. Its kind of funny how thes snaps that are off sometimes lead to big plays, like it messes up the timing of the defense. Good block by Mattison here on the free defender squaring up with him at the LOS. Jefferson makes the safety miss who was the only guy in front of him after the catch by running to the side at an angle then outruns the rest of the defenders trying to make the play.

Vikings actually take the lead for the first time after this play.

Shotgun. Herbert finds Keenan Allen on a out route where Allen has a step and a half on Murray. Allen is able to turn it upfield after the catch for extra yards before being forced out of bounds. Murray just got beat there.

Allen gets the ball out to to Kelly in the flat after rolling to his left. Some pass rush by the Vikings getting through on this play and a nifty pass by Herbert to sneak it past defenders hands that went up.

An amobea look from the Vikings defense with many off ball defenders blitzing inside. They all get picked up and Herbert finds Everett on the sideline for a short gain. Bynum fails the tackle trying to hold on to Everetts leg, but Everett steps out of this and is able to get the first down after getting out of the tackle attempt.

Shotgun. Play action. Hunter beats his block and is close to getting Herbert but he gets the ball away to Allen on the right sideline. Allen high points the ball over Murray but a penalty is called on this play, not sure on who. Offensive pass interference? Not sure.

1st and 20. Herbert gets touched by the pass rush but is able to step up through it and throws a deep jump ball to Palmer on the right sideline that is incomplete. Targeting Murphy again who seems to be often left in single coverage without help.

Kelly runs off left tackle for minimal gain.

3rd and 10 Allen with lots of time here rolling to his left. Heaves one over the middle to Allen who high points the ball between two defenders for the 1st down.

Shotgun. Herbert throws deep to the left side. Evans has good position on the throw and attempts to intercept the ball but it clanks off his hands right to Palmer for the TD.

1 yard run by Mattison. No creases made on this play just a bunch of bodies, half of them falling down.

Shotgun trips right. Addison in motion. Cousins throws to a spot in the seam but no Vikings receiver is near where he is throwing to. Not sure if he is trying to get it to Hockenson or Addison here. He splits both receivers and neither has a chance to make a play on that ball. Schlotmann is being driven back into Cousins before he throws and maybe this caused the pass to be off target as Cousins throws over them.

5 receivers 3 right 2 left. Cousins with plenty of time is able to step up in the pocket and delivers a pass to Addison over the middle for the 1st down.

Cousins finds Addison on the right sideline. The throw is a bit high but Addison is able to drag his toe and stay in bounds as he makes the catch here.

Cousins with plenty of time again here checks down to Mattison for a 7 yard gain over the middle.

Shotgun trips left. WR screen to Jefferson who is able to spin his way forward and almost gets the 1st down.

3rd and 1 quick run by Mattison who gets the first down but trips after crossing the line. He punches the ground after the play as I think he sees he could have had a bigger run if he didnt get tripped here.

Trips right Chandler in. Some pretty good blocking on the left side and Chandler has a nice run up the seam here.

Shotgun trips left. Another WR screen to Jefferson who is able to use his blockers and drives through a tackle on the sideline for some extra yards after contact.

1st and goal from the 3. Tight set. Mattison up the middle gets close to scoring but stopped short of the goal line.

Vikings go with a heavy formation Ham ahead of Mattison in the I formation. Defense gets penetration and stops Mattison short of the goal line.

Shotgun trips right. Addison in motion to the left. Cousins throws the ball out of bounds to his right. Lots of contact by the defensive backs on Jefferson and Osborn here, but they are within 5 yards so I think this is fine.

More stuff on the video I am watching blocking my view. Vikings go for it on 4th down but fail.

Not sure what happens after this. I see Cousins throws an interception after the Chargers turn it over on downs.

Justin Herbert ends the day completing 40 of 47 passes -- that's 85%.

That's the best single-game completion percentage for any quarterback with at least 45 pass attempts in league history.

The Vikings blitzed on 82% of his drop backs (41/50) - [2nd] highest % in the NextGen Stats era (2014-23.)

Thats a lot of blitzing. It was not often that they actually got any pressure on Herbert though.

In the few instances where the Vikings did get pressure on Herbert he would be able to shrug it off and reset to throw. It really wasnt very effective at all.

There were some defensive plays I didnt see though.

Great job with all those tidbits of info.
I was glued to the Miami game at 1:00 so there is no way I could have watched all 8-10 games that were running same time.
I plan on rewatching thru Youtube/Ticket today and this will be interesting to compare notes

Thanks!
