I saw a couple "drops". They were the kind of catches that you'd say "Wow" if he did catch them though. He was wide open a lot which is a good sign, but Teddy couldn't seem to ever hit him in stride.

I obviously would have preferred for him to have caught more of those passes, but I still can't come away from this game as anything but a positive for him. He was open a lot, even if it's because he was drawing the weakest coverage. He has the measurables to be an elite WR. Hopefully he continues to see a lot of action and him and Teddy both continue to improve.

I'm a Patterson owner in dynasty and it hurts me to say it, but I don't see any reason why Patterson should be out there over Johnson at this point in time.

He's 25.

i think physically he is what he is. the specs are pretty impressive - height/weight/speed - but he's going to need more burn with the first unit. he can put it together and be productive (see Brian Quick) at this stage of his career.

FWIW, he looked really calm and steady on the catches I saw. Missed on what would have been a pretty good play along the sideline, but the ball was badly thrown and he was trying to work out how to stay in bounds and get down to the ball at the same time.

Considering this is a guy who came from a tiny school and was cut by the Browns it's fairly safe to say he had to show something pretty good in practice to get the call.

The best second-year receiver on the Vikings’ roster is not named Cordarrelle Patterson. Charles Johnson played 67-of-69 snaps Week 12 against the Packers, hauling in 3-of-11 targets for 52 yards and a touchdown. He was wide open for another touchdown after an ankle breaking route in the second half but was missed by Teddy Bridgewater, which was a theme throughout the game.

Johnson has played 79 percent of the Vikings’ snaps over the last two weeks and has a team-high 18 targets over that span. Bridgewater’s struggles make me hesitant to call Johnson startable in 12-team leagues, but he certainly needs to be owned and is worth a start in deeper leagues.

He should have, one in the end zone went through his hands, would have been a tough catch but he could have made it.

He does have youth on his side as he is 25 years of age.

Ya that is my thinking as well. I just have zero idea of what I have. We have big rosters so it is not a problem of keeping him, it is more so trying to decide of who he is and what I may or may not have going forward.

Looks like teams were trying to sneak him onto their practice squad, but Norv knew the kid had some game as he was in Cleveland prior to his gig now with the Vikings. When you have that kind of freakish athleticism teams take notice.

Well GB had him on their practice squad and he was injured and the Browns claimed him. The Packers stated they were upset that he didn't give them an option to match the deal to keep him. The Packers have good WR's so it makes sense.

As to why the Browns cut him...I have no idea. There could be something else going on or it could just be the Browns being the Browns.

He has all the measurables you want for a WR1 and he's been producing several weeks in a row now, so it's hard to imagine that he just disappears all of a sudden. I don't know how good he can become but I don't think what we're seeing now is just a fluke.

What you have is a really good fit for Norv's style of offense. You have a conservative head coach and a smart developing QB with a questionable deep ball.

I'm a huge Vikings fan and a Teddy and Charles Johnson owner in dynasty so I'm probably not very objective but Johnson has a ton of potential. I think he's a WR 3 next year with the true potential to be a top 10 guy. Remember that after next year MN moves indoors as well.

If I was offered an early 2nd round pick right now I would not take it but I don't know if I'm valuing him too high. This offense is not currently built to light up the scoreboard but Teddy has shown clear progress in 2/3 of a season.

Charles Johnson will train with Brandon Marshall in Florida this offseason.

Following the Vikings-Bears game in November, Marshall came up to Johnson and called him "a baller." Marshall and Teddy Bridgewater worked out together in Florida last offseason, and Marshall told Bridgewater to invite Johnson this time around. Learning from one of the game's best in Marshall can do nothing but help Johnson. He'll be a popular "sleeper" pick next summer.

(FFToday)Charles Johnson entered a game last month at Chicago with six career catches. When the game was over, Bears star Brandon Marshall wanted to work out with him this offseason. Marshall didn't know anything about the Vikings wide receiver prior to a Nov. 16 game at Soldier Field. Then he saw Johnson catch six passes for 87 yards. "He came up to me after the game and he said, 'Hey man, much respect, you're a baller, you're really good,''' Johnson said of his first encounter with the Chicago wide receiver while Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater was nearby. "Teddy was standing there and he said to him, 'Why didn't you tell me about him? Invite him to our (offseason) camp.' Teddy was like, 'We just signed him.' It was pretty cool.'' Johnson was signed off Cleveland's practice squad Sept. 20, and two months later had his breakout game against the Bears. Now, he expects to be working out this offseason not only with Bridgewater, but with Marshall, soon to be recovered from season-ending broken ribs and a lung injury suffered Dec. 4. Bridgewater and Marshall both train at Fit Speed Athletic Performance in Weston, Fla., just outside Miami. Johnson is looking forward to getting some pointers from a guy who has five NFL 100-catch seasons while having made five Pro Bowls. "It's great,'' Johnson said. "It was something to see that a guy like him who's established thought that I was good and acknowledged my game. He said that I had some good skills, and I really appreciated the compliment.'' Pardon Marshall if he knew little about Johnson until last month. After being a seventh-round pick out of Division II Grand Valley (Mich.) State by Green Bay in 2013, Johnson was on the Packers' practice squad before getting picked up by the Browns. Then he had knee surgery, ending his season. Vikings offensive coordinator Norv Turner held that position last year with Cleveland and Minnesota quarterbacks coach Scott Turner was then the Browns receivers coach. They saw enough of Johnson to recommend he be signed three months ago. Johnson had his first six career catches over a seven-game span before his big outing against the Bears. After that game, he replacedCordarrelle Patterson as a starting wide receiver and finished the season with 31 catches for 475 yards and two touchdowns. "We all respect Charles around here,'' Patterson said. "I hope he'll be here for many years.'' Johnson still has two years left on his rookie contract, paying him an economical $510,000 in 2015 and $600,000 in 2016. So he's not going anywhere anytime soon. "I just go out there each day and just try to work, so you can see my type of talent that I have, and I think coaches can see that,'' Johnson said. Marshall also has seen it. The two might play for rival NFC North teams, but Johnson relishes any chance he can get to learn from one of the league's top receivers.

OC Norv Turner credited Charles Johnson with the Vikings' late-season offensive improvement. Analysis: [Johnson] replaced Cordarrelle Patterson as the primary "X" in Week 12. In the six games from that point forward, the Vikings averaged 24.0 points per game with Johnson going 19-328-2. "It created some differences in how people defended us. I think we became a much more efficient offensive football team and put ourselves in position to win games," Turner said.
