He was tearing up the Bears defense when he hurt his ribs..is this similar to McGahee??

who becomes the #1 now?? Fason? Moore??

Sure looked like Fason watching the game...
Indeed.I suspect it'll be Fason on 1st & 2nd down, and Moore gets all the 3rd down work + 8-10 carries. I'm also interested in the QB situation, as the Vikes have a sweet fantasy playoff schedule. Johnson was awful, then Bollinger got hurt. Childress wouldn't turn the offense over to Jackson, would he???

Chester Taylor-RB- Vikings Dec. 4 - 4:24 pm et

Chester Taylor is considered "day-to-day" with bruised ribs.

Taylor had a CT scan on his mid-section Monday. His ribs aren't broken, which is the good news. But with Detroit on the slate for Week 14, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Taylor limited even if he plays. Ciatrick Fason would probably get the goal-line carries with Mewelde Moore playing on third downs. Taylor's status will be updated again Wednesday.

Vikings: Taylor has bruised ribs

The News

Not much will be known until further testing is performed, but the initial diagnosis on the injury that forced running back Chester Taylor out of Sunday's game is that he suffered bruised ribs. Coach Brad Childress told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, "nothing's broken." Taylor added, "I tried to fight through it, but it was too much to bear."

Our View

Taylor racked up an impressive 99 yards against the Bears before departing, and backup Ciatrick Fason put up another 75 yards and a score in his absence. Fason and Mewelde Moore would both get carries next week against the Lions if Taylor can't go, but we'll have to wait until further in the week to determine Chester's prognosis. The Vikings seem committed to keeping Moore in his third down and change-of-pace role, so those seeking waiver wire advice should target Fason as an insurance policy

Thaks for the info so far. If anyone hears anything new it'd be great to see it as I have to figure out if I should claim Fason as insurance by the end of today. (I know you really care about my team- not). I'm sure there's plenty of other people interested in this situation too.

I am interested as well. I limped into the playoffs without quality RBs, finding one that starts, even one game, at this stage in the season would be gold for me. Plus it's a nice matchup with the Lions.

Great...I see this as being another of those GTD where they'll keep you hanging until the last possible second. He'll practice all week and be listed as probable or questionable, then at the start of the Vikings game they'll say: "Oh, by-the-way...Chester Taylor is inactive today."

:hot:

Instead of playing that game I guess I'll be forced to go with Betts and McGahee.

The new Vikings regime is all about the bunker mentality. One week Childress wouldn't reveal who the EMERGENCY QB would be--don't want to tip your hand to the oppisition  . Now maybe something about Chester's status will get leaked, but I'd be watching the updates and inactives on Sunday very closely.

As to who would "start" in his place, the only information we have based on limited time in one week is that Fason might get the Chester role with Mewelde staying the 3rd down back. Who knows what they might do with a week to prepare though. I wouldn't want to try to guess, given that it's the playoffs for most of us, unless my RB situation was desperate.

Geez, I would the option of having Betts or McGahee to trhow in if need be.All I have on my bench is Moore. Where did Fason come from?? :wall:

At one point, I believe Fason was the #4 RB on the depth chart. They'll never give Moore RB #1 carries. He's been there about 4 years now and they insist on using him as the 3rd down back only.

fason has been hurt most of the year. Here is an article from todays paper...

http://www.startribune.com/510/story/856533.html

Fason, a fourth-round draft choice by the Vikings in 2005 out of Florida, had a limited role as a rookie, being used in goal-line situations and scoring four touchdowns. He impressed the coaching staff early in this year's camp, but a sprained left shoulder suffered in the third preseason game against Baltimore proved a major setback. "It was kind of an aggravation of an injury I had in college already," Fason said.

He played in the preseason finale at Dallas and was used on special teams in the regular-season opener at Washington. However, Fason admits he barely could use his left arm in that game. Childress decided to go with veteran running back Artose Pinner the next week and kept things that way through the Vikings' loss to Green Bay on Nov. 12.

Fason, who met with Childress early on during his inactive stretch, has been in uniform for the past three games. "He was banged-up, he couldn't completely let it go in there and you could see him holding back a little bit," Childress said of his decision to keep Fason on the sideline for so long. "This is a hard game to play if you've got it throttled back."

Taylor likely will be listed as questionable today on the first injury report of the week for Sunday's game at Detroit. If Fason does assume the No. 1 job this week -- Mewelde Moore appears set in his role as the third-down back -- he certainly will turn to Taylor for more advice.

:blackdot:

I have him and McGahee in over Addai going against JAX. With Indianapolis's odd RB usage, I cant trust them PLUS against a good defense as well...

Hopefully he can go. They say its "very painful.' Which makes me cringe, if he starts... will he finish??? DOH!

:wall:

THAT'S the big question here ... even if he does get the start, how long will he last? Also factor in a change at QB this week, and Chet's once "dream" playoff sked starts off with a THUD.I lost Portis earlier, been riding Chet with Freddy/Henry (based on matchups). Scooped up Betts the week before Portis went down ... looks like I'll happily be starting Betts and Henry this week, to compensate for Taylor's precarious status.

According to CBSsportsline, Chet is listed as questionable as of today. They go on to say that if he does play, it will be with a flak jacket protecting the ribs, and that his touches will be monitored.

Doesn't sound like a productive start

Chester Taylor, RB MIN

News: Numerous sources, including the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, report that Vikings RB Chester Taylor had a CT scan of his ribs on Monday. Nothing was broken, but he is sore. If he does play at Detroit in Week 14, he's expected to wear protective padding on his ribs and have his touches monitored. If he doesn't play, Ciatrick Fason and Mewelde Moore would split his carries.

Analysis: Monitor Taylor's status throughout the week if you own him in Fantasy play. If he practices as late as Friday, we'd expect him to play on Sunday. Regardless, pick up Fason as he'd be a good enough replacement for Taylor in the event he doesn't play. The matchup against the Lions is a very appealing one.

Many fans also are wondering about the health of running back Chester Taylor, who suffered bruised ribs against the Bears and had to leave the game in the third quarter. It seems highly unlikely that Taylor will do much work in practice this week. Taylor, however, is from the Detroit area and could try to play while wearing some protection on his ribs.

From CBSsportsline

Vikings RB Chester Taylor (ribs) has been listed as doubtful for Week 14 at Detroit. The Vikings used Ciatrick Fason and Mewelde Moore in his place last week when Taylor left the game at Chicago with hurt ribs. A CT scan on Taylor showed no breaks on Monday.

(Updated 12/06/2006).

I checked NFL.com and didn't see the injury report to verify the doubtful tag. When does the official injury report come out?

It's out and he's doubtful.

Have to choose between a banged up McGahee (ankle/ribs) or Fason this week as RB2. I will be monitoring both situations closely come Sunday morning. CT has been upgraded from Questionable to Probable on Friday (or whenever) for the last 3 weeks it seems. I wouldn't doubt if they upgrade this one later in the week too, but this really does sound like the worse of his injuries so far.

McGahee's situation and injury sounds like the lesser of the two and the better play over CT at this point. But Fason almost sounds like an even better play than Willis though? Big power back that faired well against the Bears, playing the Lions and almost guaranteed to get a couple of GL carries.

Guess we'll have to stay tuned. Fason is very sneaky though as it's fairly new info and wiavers may still be open or processing tonight with him on it still.

DO NOT sleep on Mewelde this week!

Fason has proven nothing in this league other than some nice garbage time running @ Chicago last week well after Tommie Harris left the game. Also, the Vikings are ranked 31st against the pass (last I checked), and the Lions have the offense to exploit that secondary. If Detroit can jump out by 10 points or more, you'll see very little of Fason IMO. Don't read too much into last week. That game was WAY out of hand by the time Fason saw his action.

Makes sense since last time these two played Chester Taylor had 120+ yards rushing

So wait, you say that Fason only got his yards in garbage time and then you predict DET will jump out early on MIN, but Fason still isn't a good play?

Great.

My RB's going into the playoffs:

R Brown

C Taylor

W Dunn

Now I'll be forced to start:

W Dunn

S Morris

J Norwood

Not to mention my #2 WR in Colston is hurt and I'll be forced to start Santonio Holmes. Ugh.

Just remember, like so many coaches Childress will play little games with the injury report. Don't be surprised if Chester gets upgraded late in the week and plays a la Pat Williams last week.

Tell me about it! :hot: That...Aaannd McGahee is in a walking boot! Sure...he's saying it's no big thing and it's only "precautionary".Make it to the playoffs and collapse. EVERY STINKIN' YEAR!!! :hot:   :hot:

More reason to run the ball and keep the offense off the field. It cuts both ways. The Vikings are who we think they are. They run and they stop the run.

And by the way, the Bears were still playing hard when Fason came in. Tommie Harris is not the entire defense. He just out-quicked them a few times.

My beef with Fason was he was a little smallish coming into the NFL. I didn't think he could take a season of pounding. And as a Gator, I have watched alot of Fason over the years.

Mewelde has special teams responsibilities last I checked, which may limit his touches at RB.

I also wouldn't be surpised to hear he is hurt worse. The guys has like 16 things going on with him right now. Taylor has been a warrior in my opinion, but at some point you just have to sit him and let him heal.

Sure.I think I'll start Gonzo at TE over Watson as well. Not sure about my kicker though. I'll post that when I come to a decision.

Maybe you could even start a new topic for it.

Agreed.

Chester not practicing again...

Running back Chester Taylor did not appear at the beginning of the afternoon practice. Taylor, nursing sore ribs, is expected to miss a second consecutive day.

Taylor was listed as doubtful for the game, and his status likely won't change.

Ciatrick Fason and Artose Pinner are handling Taylor's workload for now.

No reason to believe there will be a markedly increased role for MMoore

Taylor might practice today

Per CBS SL

News: The Minnesota Star-Tribune reports that Vikings RB Chester Taylor (ribs) was on the practice field Friday, but it was not clear whether or not he was going to take part in the team drills. Before practice, Taylor called himself a gametime decision for Sunday. "I'm the only person that knows how I feel," he told the paper. "So that's basically it. I've got the last say on it basically. ... I'm just going to make the decision that's best for me and if I can go I can go, if I can't I can't."

Analysis: Taylor's ribs got hurt in the third quarter against Chicago last week, and if he does play he'll have to wear some protective padding. Continue to monitor Taylor's status up until Sunday. If he plays, he's a must-start in all Fantasy leagues. If he doesn't, then Ciatrick Fason and Mewelde Moore are expected to split his reps.
