Chicago Guys - Anyone Have Advice For Reservations At Bavette's? (1 Viewer)

Going to Chicago and would love to hit this place.

The only reservations available when we want to go are at 10:15.

Any advice on how to get something closer to 7pm?

Called the hotel and they said they didn't have the weight.

The only thing better than 7 pm dinner reso at a steakhouse is eating at the bar at a steakhouse.

Is that out of the question? Formal or business?

thanks mass - special dinner with my wife and daughter who will be interviewing that day for a scholarship

our daughter is a ribeye smasher - but she's never had an aged ribeye in a schmoozy steakhouse - she's also incredibly into fashion

and the ambience of this place and Gilt would be a great congrats from us as parents for all of her work towards a scholarship

so it's as much about the experience and atmosphere as it is about the steak (but still want a memorable steak for her)

Change your dates?  Or try one of the bazillion other steak houses in Chicago.  Start with Chicago Cut, Maple & Ash or RPM Steak.

Why the fascination with Bavettes?  A quick perusal of their menu shows they serve every steak with Bernaise sauce.  IMO, that's a terrible way to design a menu.

“don’t get saucy with me Bernaise” is one of the best lines in History of the World Part 1

only one other date as an option - no better luck on times

why Bavette's?

our daughter loves steak and has never been to a top level steakhouse - we were looking not only for a consistently good dry-aged steak, but also a memorable ambiance

Bavette's consistently scores high on both - dark, big couches, library vibe ...and doesn't seem like it would be nearly as loud as many steakhouses

(it is weird how so many of their pictures on yelp show a side of Bernaise)

ended up going with Steak48 - where we're all likely to attack that 45 day dry-aged ribeye.
