Childress: Taylor Will Remain The Starter (1 Viewer)

FF nightmare
no way. FF opportunity. This guy will be a top 10 back imo. He is going to get a 40 yd (.5) td a game bump from all the passes that tavarous jackson will dump off to him (both because of talent and because he is taking too long in the pocket) plus that oline is MONEY.That and that defense is turnover based, low scoring. That is a good team to have a rb for?The opportunity is you don't get to draft guys like this in the 5th round (or aquire them early befire the price goes up... and I think it will)

FF nightmare
Not really, people just want to over think everything here it seems. In the end it should all pan out.The bottom line is he's a RB2 with RB1 potential. I don't think anybody can dispute that at this point. You guys all go over thinking everything while I ride AD to my championship. As I've said before the only thing that can stop AD from being a beast is injury. I don't think CT, the MIN passing game, or even Childress can stop him from exploding on the NFL.IMHO he's the only RB I've ever seen that could of started in the NFL right out of high school, and that says ALOT. I'm sure I'll get flamed for that statement but I guess everybody is entitled to their opinions...

Has any rookie RB ever had a better first game stat-wise? I seriously doubt any rookie RB has ever had a similar first-game performance when not starting.
It's not fair to qualify it with the bolded. Taylor got hurt early...that basically made Peterson the "starter".
Billy Sims, Marcus Allen and two other players had rookie games very similiar in terms of total yardage and overall production. I cannot remember the other two. One might be Earl Campbell and I am pretty sure the fourth is someone that is long forgotten. I don't have time to dig it up. I vividly recall Sims' game...WOW! As far as the Taylor's contract keeping him the starter, this is not baseball or basketball. Childress will play the better player regardless of financial implications. Deep down....everyone knows who gives him the best chance to win at HB moving forward and it is not Taylor.

It was touched upon but Peterson is going to have an extremely HIGH butts to seats ratio. It was also mentioned he is also one of the few players at RB in the NFL that could go the distance at any moment. 4 players had him pinned with angles on that screen pass Sunday. The kid has the proverbial other gear...he beat all 4 through the point and damn near out ran the frame on the camera shot. Then, there is the whole matter of the better football player and you are absolutely kidding yourself if Taylor is that player.

Sorry but Peterson is just that good.

Anyone else sick of these coaches feeding the press a bunch of crap when even they know they'd be idiots to do what they said? I mean, if he means by "starting" being allowed to stink up a couple of series and waste a few drives before we acknowledge the inevitable and put in our world beater, then fine, CT is your starter, you jagoff. But if he actually means "despite AP showing us beyond a shadow of a doubt that he's the best runner in the division, possibly the conference, and most definitely our team, we are going to give the bulk of the carries to his older, slower, less elusive counterpart", then this guy is just a #######g moron. I mean, your "starter" has already been injured in the first game and through a good chunk of preseason, and has never shown an ounce of the potential ADP showed on Sunday, yet he remains your "starter"?Diplomacy is one thing, but if this idiot actually means what he says, why doesn't he just save himself and the team the trouble and just go out back and beat his #### with a hammer?
C. Taylor ran hard last year and was very productive. You need two backs in this league (with very few exceptions) especially when your "world beater" can't finish a college season.50/50 split when Taylor is healthy. -Peterson owner
Why they would go 50/50 is beyond me. Chester has a good deal of value for that team. The Viks will likely run it enough that even if Chester gets 40% of the carries, that will be like 50-55% compared with other RBs on passing teams. However, regardless of what Chester DOES bring to the table, Peterson brings a WHOLE lot more. Why would a coach go 50/50 when you have a solid, better than average player and someone who has elite talent and used correctly would likely be a very good, great or even elite player.

Could ADP/Taylor be similar to Maroney/Dillon last year?
I don't think it's a very good comparison. We won't know for sure until it happens, but the assumption I've seen from people with knowledge of the Vikings is that ADP will get the goalline work. If you made me draw a comparison, I would say Rhodes/Addai in '06 except that I think both of the Viking backs are more talented than their counterpart in that situation and running figures to be more prominent in the MN offense.

1. 1400 yards and 6 td's doesn't mean anything. I could have ran for 1000 yards in that offense last year. He is a career backup!!2. This myth that CT is a better receiver is crazy. Maybe he has better hands, but if that the case Mewlede Moore is the better rec. He is a threat to score every time he touches the ball and proved that with his catch and run Sunday. On a side note... How many runningbacks are trully a threat to score everytime they touch the ball? LT, AD, FWP? Is Bush?
Is Bush?????? You must be kidding. I'd say a bunch of RBs are threats to score every time, including Chester Taylor. Busted one for 95 yards last year.

I own Peterson in several leagues and I agree with this. Even though AP looked great, he is still young and may not be able to do all the things Chester Taylor can, like pass blocking and correct blitz pickup.

Even thought I am depending on AP heavily, I can understand the point Childress is making. If AP get his 16-20 touches a game, I am happy from a fantasy perspective no matter who is starting.

Friday updates from RotoWire and RotoWorld:

Taylor (bruised oblique muscle) is listed as questionable on the injury report and had limited participation in Friday's practice, but he feels he can play against Detroit. "I feel I’m good to go, I’m going to go," he told the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "But I’m still taking it day by day right now." It looks like Taylor is going to be a game-time decision even though he didn't do much work in practice this week. That makes him too risky to start in most fantasy leagues, but also makes it too uncertain to just assume Adrian Peterson will get all the carries as well. Still, Peterson should be a strong play this week as we'd think Taylor's workload would be limited even if he does get into the game.

The Vikings will leave it up to Chester Taylor (hip/oblique) to decide whether he is ready to face Detroit on game day.

"He’s done everything he can to put himself in a position to play," coach Brad Childress said Friday. "We’ll see. We’ll leave it up to him." Taylor hasn't practiced fully all week. Don't count on him playing much even if he's active.
