Chris Davis, 1B Texas Rangers (1 Viewer)

unless Bud Selig just changed the rules, I believe teams are allowed to change lineups throughout the year. If Davis is on pace to hit .280 w/ 35 HRs like the homers suggest, he'll get moved up in the order.Spring training batting orders are useful bit of information but it's possible to overreact to them. They can impact production in the counting categories but tend to be fluid throughout the year.
I agree, but there's reason to believe the same could happen for Cruz and Blalock, in which case he may not move up past #6. Unless Cruz bombs I expect him to stay above Davis regardless to at least somewhat split up the army of lefties in the middle of the Rangers' lineup.Don't get me wrong, I like Davis, just not to the degree many do. Too risky as early as he's going imo.
I've seen both Cruz and Davis play, and Davis is far and away a better hitter. If you had me pick which one of the two was more likely to fail in 2009, 10 times out of 10 I'd pick Cruz.
 :moneybag: woops

Rangers optioned first baseman Chris Davis to Triple-A Oklahoma City. The Rangers plan to move Hank Blalock back to first base and use David Murphy as their primary designated hitter. Davis was simply over-matched in the big leagues this season, posting a .202/.256/.415 batting line and 114 strikeouts in 258 at-bats. He'll be back up eventually.

He'll be back up, all right. Back up first basemen for a Triple-A squad.

If the Rangers are smart Smoak will stay in AAA for awhile. He needs to hit lefties at that level before they bring him to the bigs. I know his ability to hit both right and left handers in college is touted by scouts but he has struggled with lefties in the minors.

I had a feeling he was going to be a bust....I couldn't believe some of the players he was getting taken ahead of in some drafts.

Anyway....I wouldn't be surprised if this was just a really slow start. I just saw him hit the WW and I think Im gonna use my #1 WW pick on him and hope he gets hot soon. any thoughts?

Not a bad idea. Sounds like he's getting some action at 3B in AAA, which can only help his value in Texas.

I'm hanging onto him because I have the roster space for now (he's a keeper on my team and has been riding the bench since May). He has no trade value and I can't really drop him. Might as well wait and see what happens.

That's because of Smoak at 1B.

Oh I know, and 1B in TEX is Smoak's position at the end of the year. So Davis getting reps at 3B gives him some future value. He can play 1B/3B/DH and maybe get in 5 games/week or something
