Chris Henry's Legal Trouble (1 Viewer)

this jibes with something HC marvin lewis alluded to a few weeks ago, that based on what he had learned he was not as in as serious a trouble as many thought in the wake of news reports that he allegedly drew a gun that was witnessed by an off duty police officer in draconian drug control state of FL...

this was in usa today CIN team report this week (4-15)...

"Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry faces a May 30 trial date on a single charge of carrying a concealed firearm in Orange County, Fla. A pre-trial conference is set for May 16. The case is expected to be settled before it goes to trial. Henry is likely to receive probation. Henry is rehabbing a sprained knee suffered in the playoff loss to Pittsburgh."

they stop short of citing the source for the expectation that he will get a lenient sentence (i thought it happened in FL & brandished a weapon which carries automatic three year sentence ((see upcoming sean taylor trial)), but maybe he just had a gun & didn't brandish it... i don't remember exact details of the arrest & didn't look up)...

that could be a boon to palmer owners... with chad johnson, hoosh & henry, that could keep intact one of the more talented young WR trios in the league... with a strong RB stable signed for several years & possibility of drafting a decent TE receiving weapon for first time on lewis era, the team looks to have a phenomenal nucleus of skill position players arrayed around palmer for the next several years... this team could attain new heights with that kind of continuity & stability on offense...

if lewis builds a more robust defense in the upcoming years, CIN could become a serious threat (if they aren't already) to PIT for dominance of the AFC north...

Yeah I kind of got the feeling that this was not going to be that huge of a deal. The fact that Marvin didn't just get rid of him shows how important he thinks Henry is to the team and maybe that he knew something beforehand.

it still doesnt change the fact that you have a kid who lost millions on draft day because of his trangressions, and hasnt seemed to learn a thing from it.

Yeah, I'm not really bothered by him doing these things now. As long as he doesn't bring his attitude to the field or act all TO, I could care less if he carries a gun or smokes pot. As long as he doesn't do something even more stupid like murder someone or something rediculous like that, I'll gladly have him back. He isn't the driving force on the Bengals, but quite a nice target for Carson to chuck a 66 yard pass to.

i hear ya, bloom... as talented as he looked in his first year (guess there was never much question of that for those who saw film of him in college), if i could have that dynasty pick back i might have to avail myself of a redo given his continued boneheaded behavior...the big difference is of course some owners were staring at possible three year+ prison sentence & maybe career ender (how many players, even young, have bounced back from sentence of that magnitude?)... & now he has at least the CHANCE to redeem himself...

whether he will change his self-inflicted problems is open to a lot of doubt... if nothing else, if he gets off on this he should be worth a lot more in a trade than if he was wearing the orange overall unis... :)

And they have an awesome line to protect the QB and make the holes to run through. And IIRC they are all signed for a while now.

Well I think just Bobbie Williams is signed past next year for now. They still are trying to extend Levi Jones, Eric Steinbach, and Willie Anderson's contracts. I think the first two mentioned are their priorities due to their young age and talent. Richie Braham is probably gone (retired) after this year, but Eric Ghuichic who was drafted in the 4th round last year should be able to fill his role just as well if not better than Braham. Hopefully we can keep them all for a while.

The draft will say a lot about how much faith the Bengals have in Henry. The talent is definitely there. He was one of the most impressive rookie WRs, hands down. You have to hold him now and hope for the best if you drafted him. On the other hand, if you feel lucky and want to take a high risk gamble, this is a good time to buy Henry.

You are right on and thanks for the correction. For some reason I thought they got thier deals done already.

:goodposting: Superstar talent, 10 cent head. I really have no temptation to get rid of him. Didn't pay much & I wouldn't expect much vs. the possible return.

IMO, the only reason he's not in Sean Taylor's shoes right now is that somebody caught him before he had a chance to draw down.

I'm a Bengals homer but it's just a matter of time with this knucklehead.
