I just made a trade for Chris Johnson. Here is what I like about him:

- Best player on his team (My favorite question to ask myself when evaluating fantasy football talent - is the guy the best player on his offense?)

- Explosive - my league rewards big plays - 9 pts for TDs of 20+ yds, 12 for TDs of 50+.

- Improving - I've had a chance to watch him a bit over the past two years, and it seems that he's become more decisive.

- Schedule looks OK

What worries me:

- Team is a train wreck

- One dimensional offense

- Defense giving up big early leads

What do you think?

I think playing in a league that changes the point value for a TD based on length is crazy. In the NFL, whether Lendale White dives in from the 1 or Devin Hester runs it back 106 yards from his own endzone it's still 6.Seriously though, he's a very good player - but if they switch to VY, your #1 worry might get worse. His touches aren't far off of last years numbers, but many projected a big bump. If you are expecting numbers similar to last year, you'll be fine - if you're expecting last year + 20-25%, you may be disappointed as almost all of your positives are the same as last year, his team is just much worse.

yeah no kidding ... the kid played 15 games last season and so far is 6 for 6 ... just because teams focus on him doesn't not mean he is going to get hurt (IE: ADP)

pro: week 16 against SD looks tasty. Also plays JAX, Buf, Hou, Indy, and St. Louis.

con: if he were to get dinged, say he pulls a hamstring in week 14, what's stopping Tennessee from shutting him down? We've seen this in the past with really bad teams (particularly when these bad teams are not rebuilding)

You're edging closer to a few ignore lists.Week 14 he plays the Rams. Week 16 he plays the Chargers. Those two sweeeet matchups sandwich a really bad matchup against Miami.

Very true. I own him in one, but Im still trying to trade for him in another league. Even if you take away his big game, he still averaging 5 yards per carry.

Now with VY starting I'm not sure what to expect.

Will CJ's targets go up? Or will VY panic and scramble instead of checking down or looking into the flat where Johnson is open a lot.

We'll see.

In the NFL, the QB's team gets 6 points instead of 4 when they score a td. In the NFL, no players get "points" for passing, running, or receiving yards. In the NFL RB's, WR's, and TE's don't get points for a reception or a carry. In the NFL defenses don't get points for sacks, turnovers, or holding the other team to a low score. etc.It's called Fantasy Football for a reason.

Just gave up my first rounder next year for him in my flex/keeper league (can only keep one RB). I love his upcoming schedule and hopefully after pairing him up with Jacobs and Westbrook, it wil be a low first rounder. With Westbrook and Jacobs' injury history, he's a great insurance policy for me and my keeper for next year.

I am effectively trading up RBs. He said "I'm onto something" and will review the trade tonight and let me know. I won't give up White or Colston, but would give up Austin/MSW/Jennings. I don't know if this is a fair assessment of value, but I am willing to overpay based on my depth and the annoying weekly ritual of picking the wrong guy at WR. What good does depth do me when it doesn't count?

Yep, your wr's are like my rb's. Sometimes you need to overpay as value becomes relatively meaningless for you. The frustrating part is when you make a great offer to an owner but they decline because they think you're giving up too much so they think you're pulling a fast one. Maybe your league is different but a lot of owners in my league hesitate when I make such a great offer. Best of luck.

Vince Young at QB shouldn't hurt Chris Johnson. Kerry Collins wasn't keeping defenses honest anyway and didn't throw to CJ enough. With Vince Young Chris Johnson should catch more balls and probably break even more long TDs from gimmick type plays due to Vince Young's running. Chris Johnson is risky because of his supporting cast, but he has rare upside and let's face it, it can't get worse in Tennessee. It's a calculated risk, but Chris Johnson might win some people a championship this year.

I was trying to remember if this was the case or not...are you sure it was that the RB's ypc was better with Vick, or was it just the running game had a better ypc with Vick? If true, why did the Lendale White's ypc really explode last year?

I am in the same situation, with bonus points for long TD runs. I traded Jacobs for him. I see upside with him. Hopefully things will at least not get worse. If they can start to stretch the field even a little bit then he could do well. Having Gore and Forte as my other two running backs made me desperate for help. There really are not many running backs producing consistently this year. Let's hope Young at least loosens these defenses up a little and Johnson explodes. I still like Fisher, despite the jersey fiasco. Maybe even because of it. Incident may have directed pressure towards him and away from struggling players.

Why not? I think he's unbenchable because owners have so much invested in him, but his performance doesn't dictate that. I had to make a keeper decision at the beginning of the year between DWill and CJ and I went with DWill. CJ's week 2 performance had me gripping, but now he has settled in and has been performing pretty much like I expected him to.I won my league's championship last year and CJ had something to do with that, but I'm not as high on him as others are on this board. Contrary to popular belief, he didn't have that many long runs last year (or least as many as people expected given his speed). I didn't like what the Titans did in the off-season to address their passing game and therefore I thought CJ would see more run blitzes and safeties up in the box this year. They also play in a tough division with explosive offenses and their non-conference schedule was killer.

Anyway, after a slow start, DWill is proving to be a much more consistent starter than CJ. He has had only two weeks with less than double digit fantasy points in my scoring system and that is what I am looking for in a RB1/RB2 (not "boom or bust").

I'll bite on the bragging posting.i have ADP, MJD, CJ in a keep 3, start 2 RB league. Started ADP and CJ. It's impossible to bench ADP.

I wasn't necessarily bragging; our posts kind of fall into the "you can't always play CJ above others" category. Rice was on par or better than CJ and MJD in the three weeks leading up to the bye: Rice 15, 20 and 31; MJD 10, 5 and 35; CJ 11, 4 and 12 (non ppr standard scoring). Johnson is great but he isn't always a must start. You may get burned by not playing him but there are other runners that can put up equal or better numbers.

Even with Jennings coming to life I still like Chris Johnson better in that deal for you. You still have the depth to burn, but I might try to nibble him. Try improving your kicker, defense, or something small. Maybe ask for better than Britt.
