Chris Long, StL DE (1 Viewer)

A big zero in the box score. Did he get benched? Inactive? Any info appreciated!
I saw him have a qb pressure or two. It also seemed that he was involved in a few plays but the Rams scorekeeper handing out ZERO assists the entire game and that definitely didn't help.

So.... only start StL IDP's on the road? Ouch. Ah You and Fred Robins showed up with some points. Hard for me to figure this one.

he was credited with 3 QB hits in the gamebook. Just sounds like he was unlucky.

Having watched the game, he looked mighty impressive. He was generating a lot of pressure throughout the day. It just didn't show up in the stat line.

Mike Mamula like pressure is real, actual pressure?

Any further thoughts from anyone who is local to St. Louis? Is he even around the ball a lot can he manufacture moves vs. A good OT? Do you see any growth/burst/glimmers of fading hope?

He continues to play well, constantly harassing opposing quarterbacks, but his effort is paying off for Hall and Selvie more than him. He's been leading the team in QB pressures and hits. Rams fans are pretty happy beacuse he's taken a major step forward. Fantasy fans are not.

Is he drawing double teams or at least a lot of chip blocks (evidence of commanding the attention of the opposing OL or O-Coordinator)For those that do not live in the Midwest, it seems that he gets zero press....

Yes, he gets some double teams. He's become someone that the opposing quarterback and OL have to be aware of. Hall is solid enough on the other side to capitalize.Long does get very little press, except from those watching the game or on Rams blogs and forums. However, ProFootballFocus pointed this out before last week's game:

1 sack & 3 QB hits may not seem great, but Chris Long has a further 22 QB pressures. More than any DE.

Plus pressure in and of itself affects QBs. Doesn't always have to get home to be positive play.

It's his third year. To move into the elite tier and become a viable fantasy performer, he'll need to finish the plays. Pressure is awesome. Will he take the next step? I don't know.

Let's remember this is year 3. He spent the first two years at right defensive end, opposite Leonard Little. He's now in his first year at the left defensive end position, in the second year of Spags' defense, and said in the preseason he's excited to be back at his "natural" position.

Waiting for DL to develop can be pretty painful. But I've seen nothing to suggest that Long is heading in the wrong direction.

So many times ive given up on dynasty players just a month early. Hell or high water this year, i am keeping Long. And often playing him but we get 1 pts for tackles and assists.

From http://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2010/...und-re-focused/

2. Chris Long, DE, St Louis

Value: He’s not all-conquering like Mario Williams, nor does he have the attributes of Julius Peppers, but he’s the best defensive end from this class.

Interesting stat: After picking up 70 combined quarterback pressures in his first two years, Long is on pace to better that figure in this year alone. At his current speed he’ll pick up 85.3 total quarterback pressures.

Grade: B-

The past few weeks of production have been encouraging. Fantasy production-wise, I should clarify. Any thoughts on where he ranks as a dynasty player moving into 2011?

As the article above states, he is not Peppers nor Williams. I would add Justin Tuck to that list as well.

Do we feel confident with him in the 6-10 rank range? Who are his peers? Charles Johnson/Osi/Will Smith?

I'm sure I am overthinking it but the guy is an enigma to me from a value perspective...I don't think I have seen enough game tape.
