Young has always been the type of players to give you a series of great starts and then have one complete meltdown that scorches his overall stats. This season he has just had a few more of these meltdowns than normal.
Examples in the past month or so:
Good/Great
4/12 W, 7.0IP, 0 ER, 4 hits, 0 bb, 7K (Giants)
4/22 7.0IP, 0 ER, 2 hits, 4 bb, 3K (Giants)
5/2 7.0 IP, 1 ER, 6 hits, 2bb, 5K (Dodgers)
Meltdowns
4/27 3.0 IP, 8 ER, 7 hits, 5BB, 3K (Rockies)
5/13 4.0 IP, 6 ER, 6 hits, 3BB, 3K (Cubs)
You are not going to be able to find the type of pitcher that can put up the kind of games Young can when he's on. I think he's still a little gun shy on the mound from having his face shattered last summer, and that he'll get more consistent as the season progresses. He also has a tendancy to struggle against faster, younger, teams because his pick off move is terrible (Ask Dexter Fowler).
ETA: Also, as an extreme fly ball pitcher, make sure to avoid playing him on the road in a hitter's park.
