Chromebook -- Highly recommend (2 Viewers)

What's the highest power/fastest/best Chromebook and Chromebox? I want one of each.
I think you need to stop messing around and get the Pixel.
I would seriously consider it if they made a 2014 version of one of these, top of the line, for 1k.
They'll eventually fill in the middle of the line...especially if their growth #s and stranglehold on education continue. All those kids using these in middle school will want a more powerful version as they get into HS and beyond

Have they released a new edition of the pixel? Is it still $1500?
They haven't and despite rumors, I believe Google has said they have no plans for a pixel 2. The 32GB can be found brand new on ebay for 850-900.
Always have lusted after these, and really tempted to pick one up. Hmmm...

Thats the one I picked up. Love it. Only issue is that you can't print directly to a USB printer but I should have looked into that before buying.
so how do you print? does google cloud print work?
The USB printer has to be connected to a Windows machine with Chrome installed on it; then you can use cloud printing. Works fine but it means leaving my desktop on all the time or turning it on when I want to print.

This thing is pretty awesome. Fast as bawls. Bright, gorgeous display. Keyboard rocks--very much like my Macbook keyboard. Best Chromebook experience I've seen so far. Need more time with it. Is it worth $800? We'll see. But if you have it to splurge, best Chromebook experience out there. ETA: This is also the fastest web browsing experience I've ever had, period.

If I could get my work to adopt Storefront for Citrix and use this as my full on work machine, it would be the best thing ever. Hoping they go that route (or someone comes up with a Chromebook fix).

1 week update please?

Picked up the Toshiba Chromebook 2 this weekend. This is the third Chromebook I have tried. Had the HP 14 and the Acer something or other. I returned both of those within a few days of using them.

I am liking this machine. Not super fast, but fast enough. The display is incredible. Viewing angles are superb. Brightness is very bright. Sound is decent. Battery like seems to be about 6 or 7 hours of decent use.

Amazon was out of stock, but some Best Buys have them.

Serious question. Why would anyone spend $800 on a chromebook. Have laptops become so expensive that there are no good ones in that price range

Maybe im missing something on the chromebook thing, but I thought it was a little better than a tablet. I thought the allure of the chromebook was the reasonable price.

The Pixel was a high end Chromebook on par with the MacBook specs and design wise. Original retail was $1500. Assuming most of your computer usage is online and cloud based and you still want a high end machine then the Pixel is the best bang for your buck.

Still really enjoying it. For the first time last night I fired up my Spotify and tried the sound. My god does it sound amazing. Never thought a laptop could sound so good; I had forgotten about reading about the sound in the reviews. I didn't need to go past half half volume for some perfect background music while I was surfing.

The display remains awesome. I love the extra display height beyond the format of other laptops these days.

I also find I use the touchscreen a bunch, more than I thought I would. The trackpad is nearly as good as the Macbook trackpads, so it's not necessary, but sometimes it just feels quicker/easier to reach out and manipulate the screen. In that respect it interacts a lot like an iPad -- really fast, smooth, fluid interaction with swipes, pinch to zoom, etc.

Primary complaint remains one that is not Google's fault. Citrix simply won't allow Chromebooks to connect without their stupid new "Storefront" add-on configured at the server side, and my work doesn't have that (yet?). And so I can't use it for remote connections to my work applications. If ever my office sorts that out, I won't need another computer.

Overall it's just blazing fast, gorgeous display, fantastic keyboard and trackpad with an even better touchscreen, great design.

My biggest downside is based on a personal issue -- Citrix configs at my server side. Other downsides are it tends to run a bit warm (all that processing speed has to go somewhere), the battery life isn't outstanding (I believe it's in the 5-6 hour range--I haven't battle tested that yet, but it feels right based on my usage so far), and it's also a little bigger/heavier than what I'm used to traveling with (my Macbook Air).

My hope is the Citrix thing resolves eventually. At that point it will be my main/only computer at home (I may also set up a dock with a second bigger screen for desktop work). I may still keep my wife's old Macbook Air for business travel only--it's just such a great and tiny machine for airplanes etc.

If anyone can answer this quick, I would be grateful. I dont want to lose this price and I think it will work fine

My 7.5 year old has become obsessed with watching youtube videos. We have a laptop that is fine for us, but the battery died so it can not be moved

Is this something a 7.5 year old could get by with as a gift from Santa. I just want to make sure its not junk

I think I read somewhere that this is a great model for the cost

http://www.amazon.com/Acer-C720-Chromebook-11-6-Inch-2GB/dp/B00FNPD1VW/ref=lh_ni_t?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

7.5 year old is my target Chromebook audience as well... I'm curious to hear what others say about that one as well.

I haven't owned one but for the reviews for this model have always been great, and for the price it is hard to beat. The screen isn't the best in the world, but it's fine for a 7 year old and Youtube.

not a fan of Acer (eta or Asus) but for that price being used by a 7 yr old to watch youtube....it's fine.

Same here -- I have an 8 year old and a 10 year old. They watch a lot of youtube. My oldest does a lot of web surfing -- si and other sports sites. A lot of reviews I have read say that the web surfing is slower. I am wondering if the 2GB of RAM is enough for general use etc.

Any recommendations would be appreciated. The Acer one above looks like a good deal?

Thanks in advance.

Having used the first generation Samsung Chromebook, which is a step down from the machines available today, I can tell you they are fine for web surfing. No, it's not lightning fast, but it's fast enough. The battery life on these things is stupendous. The screens on some are crappy, but hey, you're paying less than 200 bucks. It's sick value.

I have a 10 year old and 6 year old that I'm getting laptops for this Christmas.

Right now, this one is in the lead, HP Stream 11.

While I really wanted to get them Chromebooks, I was worried about the oldest not being able to play Pokemon online with it, and the youngest does a lot of education sites with Flash on them. Still trying to see if the Chromebooks would work for this.

Why pick one of these over a laptop or a tablet?
Not sure if this was specifically for me or general

She has an ipad mini. It is fine but for whatever reason, she doesnt like watching youtube videos on it. A laptop is wayyyy too much money and this is affordable and gives her that laptop feel. She is in second grade so I would imagine in the next year or two, she will be using the google drive so that is why I am getting it for her

Or should I say, Santa is getting it for her

FYI You will not be able to play any games on it. If your kid is into Minecraft...this is not an option for you.

You should find the 4GB version of that Toshiba that has full HD screen. It's like 40 bucks more but well worth it,

Can you please splain this a little more for me. Considering a chrome book for my 8 year old -- he plays a lot of roblox and Minecraft.

Thanks.
