This thing is pretty awesome. Fast as bawls. Bright, gorgeous display. Keyboard rocks--very much like my Macbook keyboard. Best Chromebook experience I've seen so far. Need more time with it. Is it worth $800? We'll see. But if you have it to splurge, best Chromebook experience out there. ETA: This is also the fastest web browsing experience I've ever had, period.
If I could get my work to adopt Storefront for Citrix and use this as my full on work machine, it would be the best thing ever. Hoping they go that route (or someone comes up with a Chromebook fix).
1 week update please?
Still really enjoying it. For the first time last night I fired up my Spotify and tried the sound. My god does it sound amazing. Never thought a laptop could sound so good; I had forgotten about reading about the sound in the reviews. I didn't need to go past half half volume for some perfect background music while I was surfing.
The display remains awesome. I love the extra display height beyond the format of other laptops these days.
I also find I use the touchscreen a bunch, more than I thought I would. The trackpad is nearly as good as the Macbook trackpads, so it's not necessary, but sometimes it just feels quicker/easier to reach out and manipulate the screen. In that respect it interacts a lot like an iPad -- really fast, smooth, fluid interaction with swipes, pinch to zoom, etc.
Primary complaint remains one that is not Google's fault. Citrix simply won't allow Chromebooks to connect without their stupid new "Storefront" add-on configured at the server side, and my work doesn't have that (yet?). And so I can't use it for remote connections to my work applications. If ever my office sorts that out, I won't need another computer.
Overall it's just blazing fast, gorgeous display, fantastic keyboard and trackpad with an even better touchscreen, great design.
My biggest downside is based on a personal issue -- Citrix configs at my server side. Other downsides are it tends to run a bit warm (all that processing speed has to go somewhere), the battery life isn't outstanding (I believe it's in the 5-6 hour range--I haven't battle tested that yet, but it feels right based on my usage so far), and it's also a little bigger/heavier than what I'm used to traveling with (my Macbook Air).
My hope is the Citrix thing resolves eventually. At that point it will be my main/only computer at home (I may also set up a dock with a second bigger screen for desktop work). I may still keep my wife's old Macbook Air for business travel only--it's just such a great and tiny machine for airplanes etc.
