CJ Anderson (3 Viewers)

Has knowshon ever finished a season? Hypothetically if moreno gets hurt it should be between ball and cj because hillman is in the dog house. I might pick up both ball and cj and hope for a lottery ticket

Eta broncos have a bye next week so you may have to hold for up to 3 weeks

I can tell which leagues have footballguys members by whether or not CJ Anderson has been picked up in the last 2 days
This is so true. Although in my dynasty league CJ and Khiry Robinson have been at the end of my bench since week 1. I trust my fellow FBGers.

Yeah but he is still behind both so the upside might not show anytime soon...
the Broncos have rotated 3 RBs to some degree pretty much all year. It's def possible Anderson gets a drive or two or some spot duty even if the game is close. and then who knows what happens if he takes advantage of that opportunity. He's not leapfrogging Moreno, but if he impresses and Ball has some more issues, who knows. The RB situation behind Moreno has been fluid all year.

Vic Lombardi posted it on Twitter and he's about as tuned in as any media type as far as this Broncos' front office regime goes so it's pretty safe to assume CJ is dressing and Hillman is not for this week's game barring some unforeseen circumstance.

Moreno finished last season. ;)

Of course, that's why you're still able to pick him up off waivers. But comparing his potential upside relative to the cost to acquire him (i.e nothing), I think he's well worth a roster spot if you have the space. And as Buffaloes mentioned, despite being 3rd on the depth chart there's still reason to believe he'll get some playing time this game and a chance to show he's the most dangerous RB on the Broncos roster.

Knowshon and Ball aren't very special backs imo, so CJ Anderson definitely has some upside.
In this offense with P Manning at QB, the RB does not need to be special. The RB needs to efficient and be able to block.
Sure they might not need their RB to be special, but obviously they'll take a special back if they can get one.

Waldman has a write-up about Anderson that he posted on his site today.

http://mattwaldmanrsp.com/2013/10/26/remember-the-name-c-j-anderson/

In it, he compares Anderson's style to Rudi Johnson. In the limited amount I've seen him, I think he reminded a little bit of Jamal Anderson. He's a fairly big dude who seems to fall forward a lot, but he's still pretty quick and light on his feet and seems to have the vision/instincts you like to see in a RB.

pretty excited to see if he can perform at a high level.

He's played in game #16 for 3 out of 4 seasons

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this guy 3rd string even with Hillman inactive?
Yup.
He is. But you don't keep a 4th RB, who is injured, on the active roster--instead if the PS--unless you think you have something...
This is true. Denver kept Julius Thomas on the roster last year despite being injured and unlikely to give them anything. Obviously they thought they had something in Julius, and just as obviously, they were right. Of course, as Thomas demonstrated, that doesn't necessarily mean they think they have something this year. Denver's shown a willingness to take the long view with roster construction, and an unwillingness to bring in new pieces at midseason when the old pieces are still working well enough.

I think it's wrong to assume Anderson is the third stringer. While likely I would not go so far as to assume it. Ball got exactly one snap last week and a grand total of 13 snaps over the last 3 weeks. That's not touches, that's snaps. So he's barely been playing and not effective when he has got touches so very difficult for me to assume he's got the #2 job on lock down.

Haha, the Denver Post is making it seem as if DEN's run game is swirling around the toilet bowl and Anderson will be its savior.

I know very little about Anderson aside from the fact that he's only a couple weeks reserved from not even having a uniform, yet hes been hyped beyond belief. Just from a quick glance, I could see why he may be touted as NFL ready but beyond that, yeah.. nothing.

I'll gladly blindly buy into the hype here but I do realize that ultimately only a Moreno injury would allow for the lofty expectations to meet reality.

I see what you're saying. The Post's headline is a little extreme, but the beat writers understand the importance of having more than one quality running back.

I try to look at this from John Fox's perspective. I would want Moreno to be have the same type of energy that he has had so far when the playoffs arrive. So I would want a No. 2 running back that I can trust to spell Moreno and provide the same type of tough running when holding on to second-half leads. I have no idea if Anderson is that guy, but Week 8 is about the right time to find out if he is. He did have 69 yards on 15 carries in a preseason game, fwiw. That, and the organization giving him a shot to earn a role in part of the most prolific passing offense in NFL history, are all I need to know to make room on rosters.

I love Knowshon's redemption story and his tenacity but he could get hurt. I could see a scenario where Anderson and Moreno are potentially startable in fantasy.

Before anyone gets to far in front of this, how is the guys pass blocking? Easily the most important thing in Denver for their RB, IMO.

Been hanging onto Ball the entire season. His value is, at this point, predicated on Moreno going down. Would you assume that Anderson jumps him, and steps into the role of "valuable if Moreno goes down?" Thinking of cutting ties with ball and picking up Anderson based on this thinking.

If they lock up home field advantage, and Moreno is still healthy, i could see them resting moreno and letting CJ get some run. Which could be nice in the fantasy playoffs.

a lot of unanswered questions that will likely have to wait until after sundays game, BUT I noticed that he only caught 15 balls at Cal in his sr year. anyone know from reports if the guy can catch out of the backfield?

0 chance this guy has any value at all this season. I'll come back to eat my words if I'm wrong, but I won't be.

0 chance your guarantee means anything. You're guaranteeing that Moreno will stay healthy for 2 months. Just simply adding nothing to the discussion. Let's just wait and see if he plays and how he plays.

He will only need 10 yards in most leagues to provide "any" value. Odds are fairly good that happens at some point.

CJ's ceiling is taking over Ball as the #2. His limitations in pass pro will block(no pun intended)him from becoming the feature back. At least for this year. Still, Moreno has been extremely inj prone throughout his career, and has taken on a very heavy workload this far. Should Moreno get seriously hurt, that would blow the roof off CJ's current ceiling(again, the punster).

Actually, based on his size and if he holds onto the ball, I think his ceiling could be short yardage/goalline back.

Agree here. I think his ceiling with Moreno healthy would be something like 5-10 touches and GL work. It'd make him a pretty undesirable flex outside of TD heavy leagues but it's something at least.

I think Denver plays him today to see what they have. They could have just moved Ball ahead of Hillman and let Ball take backup reps and put Hillman as the 3rd RB..

As a pure desperation play, I'm starting Anderson if mendy is out.
I'm starting him in one place I've got Doug Martin and Murray out so it's him or Kendall Hunter. So desperation.

Not expecting much but than again I'm wondering is his promotion to active status has more to do than Hillmans fumbling.

Reading that Peyton is batting sprains on both ankles I'm wondering if the coaching staff would like to see if they can establish a consistent power running attack to take the pressure away from Peyton, especially against one of worst run defenses in league.

the Broncos will often just roll with the RB in the game when they are at the GL (See Hillman last week) and Moreno leads the league in rushing TDs so I'm not sure they will use a select player for a short-yardage/GL role.

Not a lot to see here. Anderson clearly getting the scraps after both Moreno and Ball are fed. We'll see what the coaching staff says, but at this point, there's no real reason to think he's going to leapfrog Ball, let alone Moreno.

Rotoworld:

The Denver Post says C.J. Anderson is a "serious threat" for the No. 2 running back job.

The fight to be Montee Ball's backup is wide open. The Post suggests Ronnie Hillman has his nose in front, but it's worth noting that Anderson closed out last season ahead of Hillman on the depth chart. Eventually, we expect Anderson to emerge as the best bet for Ball owners in search of a handcuff.
