CJ Fiedorowicz - TE, HOU - anything to see here? (1 Viewer)

Over the past 5 weeks, only Olsen and Miller (36) have more targets than him (34). More importantly, in that same time frame, only Olsen, Reed and Gronk have scored more points.

This guy is a secret stud that is criminally under-owned. If you're hurting at the position and someone dropped him during his bye pick him up and hold tight.

Watched his last game and he looked like Gronk out there. Well sort of ... Sadly he's rostered in all leagues.

This is pretty misleading, since many TEs have had a bye and/or dnp's in the last 5 weeks.

In terms of aggregate targets, you're correct, but Fiedorowicz ranks 10th in targets per game (with 6.8).

In my TE premium league, he's TE2 over those 5 weeks.

Of the top 12 TEs over those 5 weeks, only Reed (TE3), Olsen (TE4), and Graham (TE10) have had their byes, and Fiedorowicz has 23 points more than Graham.  He's 25+ points ahead of any of the other TE's who had byes over those weeks.  So, at worst, you're talking about a guy who's been the 4th best fantasy TE over the past 5 weeks even after factoring in bye weeks.

His scoring has been 4th best.  His utilization is in the 8-10 range.  Here are Federowicz's per-game rankings over the last 5 weeks.

Targets/game: 10th

Receptions/game: 8th

Yards/game: 9th

TD/game: 3rd

Fantasy points/game (standard scoring): 4th

Regardless, I was mostly taking issue with the other guy's notion that he's been the 3rd most targeted TE.  That's not really being intellectually honest (plus there's the whole arbitrary endpoints thing).

I was going to pick him up as a FA before the game due to Evan Silva of Rotoworld pimping him last week. Sure enough Silva was right. I didn't grab him and so had to use my waiver priority to grab him. It's my 2 TE league and I'm not starting a 2nd TE rather than drop him. The reason: he's been playing very well and we all know Osweiler isn't throwing to Hopkins. He's targeting Fuller deep a few times a game, but otherwise it's the short yardage game. I wouldn't expect the light bulb to all of a sudden come on for Osweiler, so he should have relevance the rest of the year. He appears to be pretty TD dependent though. So outside of PPR leagues, he's going to be a streaky starter.

I think he's firmly in the TE middle class. Great as a bye-week fill-in, and if you end up starting him the rest of the way (or alternating him with another guy from that class) you're probably fine.

I dropped him for Ebron because I think EE has a little more upside, but it wouldn't surprise me if they put up similar numbers the rest of the way, with Ebron getting more targets and CJ getting more red-zone looks.

Actually, in both of my leagues, his scoring over the past 5 weeks has been 2nd overall among TEs, slightly above Reed and Olsen, both of whom played fewer than 5 games.  So yeah, on a points per game level, he's 4th.  That's still pretty nice.  Averaged around 5 catches, 50 yards, and scoring 3 TDs in those 5 weeks has been a nice boost to owners who were proactive picking him up.

Arbitrary endpoints don't always carry weight, but his usage increased dramatically starting 5 weeks ago.  That does tend to matter.

Like the guy and he certainly has a role in the offense. And that role should continue, especially if Osweiler remains slighlty uncomforable and needs to check down or play safe dink and dump.

Opted to go with a potentially higher (and less volatile) floor with Pitta to get away from streaming -- I think if you are streaming, CJ should definitely be on speed dial based on matchups.

Better ROS in nonPPR, Fedorawitz or Henry?
Henry is more talented, but CJFed has less competition for targets. Henry seems to be getting phased out somewhat as Gates heals up. So I'd probably say CJ. But again, when you're dealing with this level of TE, differences are small and variance is high (ie, Henry could blow up for a 3 TD game and finish way ahead in season-long rankings, even though they're otherwise similar).

Here are the free agents in my league:

Ryan Griffin

Trey Burton

Garrett Celek

A.J. Derby

Clive Walford

Dion Sims

Any FBG have any thoughts on who would be the best choice here?

Decent bye week fill in. Nothing more, nothing less. Although I will keep an eye out just to see how his early chemistry is with guys other than Os (a**). When Watson starts, he has potential to see an uptick.

Texans signed TE C.J. Fiedorowicz to a three-year, $21.5 million extension through 2020.

The deal includes $10 million guaranteed. The No. 65 overall pick of the 2014 draft, Fiedorowicz hung around the fringes of relevance before breaking out for 54/559/4 last season. That was in spite, or perhaps sometimes because of, awful quarterback play. He's a chain-moving pass catcher who offers a 6-foot-5 frame in the red zone. He's a plug-and-play TE2 for fantasy purposes.

What to people think the upside with him is?  They just gave him some real money...
He wasn't involved the first 3 games of last year and then missed another one lasted in the year to injury. Otherwise he mainly averaged 4-6 catches a game (54 on the year) so I'd say his ceiling would be 75 catches, he's not gonna rack up yardage but if he can get more involved in the red zone you could be looking at double digit TDs.

As an owner of his I don't see him doing that cause the QB situation while most likely better then last year still isn't that good. On that note I would be happy with something along the lines of 60-600-7, that should make it so you can start him against a good matchup and as a bye week fill-in

It is and will continue to be TE by committee with CJF and Ryan Griffin, I'm not involved with this situation, nor do I want to be.

While griffin did better then I thought he did his 2 main games (8 catches in both) were week 3, CJF wasn't involved yet, and week 15 when CJF was hurt. I didn't look at the box scores for every other game but CJF was the better one in most of them. Griffin was getting box scores of 3-30 or less while CJF was getting 4-40 or more. I think that shows they liked using CJF as the pass catcher more then griffin so while CJF isn't gonna go crazy he is a decent TE2

Texans placed TE C.J. Fiedorowicz on injured reserve with a concussion.

The move comes after Fiedorowicz suffered two concussions in short succession. He was injured late in camp and then again on Sunday. It's a big blow to the Texans' offense, as Fiedorowicz is their primary pass catcher at tight end. The Texans are thin at receiver while Will Fuller (collarbone) is sidelined. Ryan Griffin should absorb most of Fiedorowicz's lost targets, but is missing Week 2 with a concussion of his own, as is third-stringer Stephen Anderson. It's a dire situation in Houston.

(RotoWire) Texans head coach Bill O'Brien said that Fiedorowicz (concussion) will be activated from injured reserve in advance of the team's Week 10 matchup with the Rams, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.

Analysis: Fiedorowicz is no longer experiencing any lingering symptoms from the concussion he suffered in Week 1, which was his second since the beginning of training camp. The tight end was one of the better fantasy producers at the position last season with 559 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 54 receptions in 15 games, but his upside will be more limited with Tom Savage set to take over as the starting quarterback after Deshaun Watson (knee) suffered a season-ending injury in practice Thursday.

Texans TE C.J. Fiedorowicz (concussion, IR) is expected to "play a lot" in Sunday's game with the Rams.

Fiedorowicz is on track to return for the first time since Week 1 after making it through practice without any setbacks. He should regain his role as the No. 1 tight end, but likely won't play every-down snaps. With Tom Savage starting, Fiedorowicz could see a lot of checkdowns.

Yikes. Concussion protocol again. This is like his 3rd or 4th in the last 2 years. Would hope he does right for himself and retires after this year, if he didn't just play his last snap already.
