Started this and I am a bit confused as to were my warriors go after they attack. I won the battle. had 14 survivors out of 20, hit the send home button and when it went back to my base there wasn't a warrior to be found.
If you deploy any units during an attack, they are gone whether they die or not.
Ok so the strategy is to deploy as few as possible and still win your battle or just deploy all you got to go in and crush the enemy?
Haven't mastered the best way to deploy, but I don't release them all at once (they tend to group and get hit by mortars and wizards who do area damage). Depending on the defenses, I let them go in bursts, or attack multiple spots at the same time if the defenses are close together so they can't all concentrate on one spot.

But, realistically, I'm at the point where I don't worry about elixir anymore, so I am not sad to waste warriors.

One of the basics to keep in mind is never upgrade your town hall until you have everything else upgraded that you can upgrade.

Matchmaking and how much treasure you can take is dependant on the town hall levels. If you have a town hall level 5, but level 1 walls and defenses, you're going to get smoked and farmed constantly. Keep everything on par as much as possible to prevent yourself from becoming an attractive target.
This is critical. Even though I warned him, my little kid was insistent on upgrading the TH as fast as possible, now there's tons of catch up that needs to occur in building up defenses.

How the hell do I defeat Gobottown? I just used six wallbreakers and 8 giants and 15 grunts and only took out three cannons.

What level does the gold storage have to be to hold the $40,000 need to rebuild castle?
A level 6 Gold Storage holds 50k. With 2 storages of course, you wouldn't have to level them up as much.

What are the buildings that I need to wall off and protect early? The gold/elixir storage?
I have my TH, my storages, my mortar, and my cannons behind walls. My mines, collectors, barracks and army fields on the outside, but within my cannons and mortar cover area. My builder's huts I've stuck in the three corners of my map.

I'd google some layouts for early levels, depending on whether you want to focus on farming / trophy hunting / balanced. I think you want to focus on farming early? Could be wrong here. I think the farming set ups have your storage well protected. For trophy hunting you want your town hall well protected.

Do I really need those two stones out by the border. If I sell them back, I get 20,000 for each
I think you have to pay to remove them (though they can give you gems). Could be wrong here. If they're near the border and it's early, I'd leave them to remove later. just remove what you need to to increase your base footprint

another thing that helped me early was upgrading my army camps

the best way to score gold quick is find a good target, and you need a lot of troops

when looking for a good target watch for people whose gold total is realtively high, but who's gold storage appears rather empty. This may mean they have a lot of uncollected gold in their mines. If the mine cars are not moving that is another sign. When you see this taking out the mines, which are less protected, can often score you a lot of gold

Yeah, that's how much it will cost you to remove them. There does not appear to be a market for random stones on your property.

i wish i had not shared it in my old clan, i had an attack where i lost, and scored 247,500 gold and 36,828 elixir. Only destroyed 29%

stones and trees are basically gem farms

spend the gold or elixir and get gems

stones do not regenerate, treees shrubs etc do

christmas trees are an exception, cutting them down costs gold, but gives you more gold in return

of course, i do not have the heart to cut mine down

Should I just focus on upgrading my troop camps and try to overwhelm with numbers? Or should I be attacking other players instead of goblins?

there is some sight that gives strategies, i did not find them useful

attacking players can provide a lot of gold, but i think at the end of the single player game you get a lot too

i tend to attack players more I am on Thuroughfare in the single player, but have not tried it in a long time

sherbert towers gives 800,000 gold and 800,000 elixir, so that sounds like a lot, but it takes a long time to get there

FYI, for those on Android, there is a free app, "Clash of Clans Tips & Strategy." It has a lot of basics and good information. It's free, and I highly recommend it, especially if you are just getting started.

and everyone benefits from donating

it gives you extra defense troops, and if more advanced players donate than newer players get much stronger troops

donating 5 level 3 archers, or even giants, doesn't impact me at all but can help someone just getting going a lot

Thanks. Although reading this will probably cause me to scrap what I have done today and start new.

On iOS it's damn near impossible to start over. You have to reboot your device. Not sure about Android.

you just remove the game from your phone and start again

Nice. Game Center with Apple keeps that from happening. On bright side, I can play on both phone and iPad.

I really enjoy playing on tablet.

Dammit, I guess I'll be doing some reading at lunch.

My troops are generally dumb, but sometimes they find clever ways to win. I have one archer left at a goblin camp shooting at a TH over 2 walls. It's gonna take her like 15minutes to finish, but she's out of range of the remaining cannons. LOL.

Has anyone else experienced that the game will cut you off if a battle is taking too long? I had an archer out of reach of cannon fire that was slowly destroying the Town Hall and the game asked if I was still active, I said I was, and it still kicked me out, and the Goblin town was not defeated when I went back to the map.

Whoever it was that just shared their battle result, you are a few levels ahead of me. Anytime I see a base like the one you just smoked, I click next as fast as I can.

if someone attacks you and destroys your builders building. do you have to spend another 500 gems?
No, nothing destroyed actually disappears. They just take your money and elixir. Also, you may have to re-activate your traps (bombs, etc.) Otherwise, no harm.

I usually skip anything with a crossbow myself, but sometimes the reward is worth the risk.

There is a 3 minute time limit to battles. Is that what you mean?

I don't think there is any point in starting over. It's not like you can make any irreversible mistakes (that I can think of).

Yeah, reading on what to place where I thought I needed to start over, too, because I was just putting buildings up at random. On my second runthrough I realized you can move buildings for free. :wall:

The only irreversible mistake early would be spending all your gems to speed up progress. I spent what they said in the tutorial and was cussing later over wishing I had that third builders hut. I did spend 5 bucks to get a "do over" on that.

it is tempting to drop that 5 bucks for a third hut.. im at 250 now and don't see that changing much anytime soon

Yeah, having only 2 builders creates a serious bottleneck.

spending gems is about the worst mistake you can make, and you can live with that

Do the gems ever come into play anywhere else in the game other than for extra builders huts? I am sitting on 400 or so and haven't pulled the trigger on that third builder.

Don't you get a boatload of gems for getting to 1250 trophies?
yup
Completing that achievement is the only real way to get your third builder hut without paying real cash. It's not too hard either once you reach a certain level. You just have to be very picky in choosing your opponents. You can often find players who put their Town Hall outside of their walls. Those guys are easy trophies.

You can spend them to speed up production but that's a really bad idea. Over the Christmas time they ran a "sale" where you could boost production of your mines or troop building for only one gem. That was a pretty fair price.
