Jene, last one I promise, lol. What I know, is that Clev runs a 3-4, not familiar with its variation, and /or its personell , but whats with this huge resurgence of it CB play, when sean jones has been underperforming. As of now i'm chalking it up to the O helping the D, with opposing teams running less and passsing more. Insights?thanks in advance

It's all about opportunity.

The Browns are actually playing reasonably well against the pass (17th in completion percentage allowed, T12th in yards per attempt allowed), but they have faced the third most attempts and allowed the third most completions in the league. Add in the sixth most rushing attempts faced in the league and they remain easily in the top five defenses for tackle opportunity in the league with 54 opps/gm. That's almost seven more than the league average. It's more overall raw opportunity than anything else -- the pass-run split faced is still just 55-45 which compares favorably to historical league averages.

I'll be interested to see Eric Wright's ypc allowed stat at year's end. My impressions are that he's been a little above average overall but still allows a lot of completions. He has looked better in run support than I expected over the past month and his play against the deep ball has also improved. He's clearly benefiting from being targeted opposite Leigh Bodden, who continues to not get the respect he deserves from casual fans who get players like Asante Samuel pushed in their face continually. Bodden's stats are propped up by opportunity to some extent, but his improved health may also have something to do with the numbers too. It'll be interesting to see how his 2008 goes; I think he may prove to be one of the toughest CB to project next year.

Do u think Sean Jones will get back to what he was doing last year???
He's not too far behind his 2006 pace now, though his per snap production is down.Projects to three less tackles, one less INT and 5-6 less PDs. I think he stays in that low DB1 - high DB2 range for the rest of the year.

To add to Jean ... The Browns defense leads the league in total plays against (almost 71 per game) 8+ better than the league average. Like Jean said, more tackle opportunities , also more pd ops. And ... with the Browns, its not like thay have had a game or two of high plays against to run their average up, they are very consistent. Their yet to be below the league average (62.4) in a game so far this year. Their lowest was 64 in week 8 vs St. Louis.

Had to jump on the chance to put that data to use Jean. :lmao:
