Cleveland Insiders (1 Viewer)

Holmgren pushed Brown out of his advisor role. The great Jim Brown didnt like that. Not sure what value Jim adds to the team except for nostalgia at this point

Brown has been on the Cleveland payroll the past few years because Randy Lerner didn't have anyone really running the front office. Now that Holmgren is in charge, the Browns don't need people like Brown in the owner's ear, so Brown's role was reduced to a community icon role that ONLY paid him around $100,000 a year. Brown is a bitter old man and started to play some race cards and stated he didn't need Holmgren to define him as a Cleveland Brown. So, he took his ball and went home, snubbing the team for their Ring of Honor ceremony. Brown left the team to go into movies way back when and didn't come back to Cleveland until more than 20 years later. He is only a Cleveland figure when it serves him to be one. I guess 100k isn't enough.

This is pretty much how I see it too.Do most Cleveland fans agree with you or are there plenty that side with Brown?J

I could be wrong but my understanding is that Jim Brown has been a bit of an annoyance to previous coaches & GMs of the Browns. Holmgren graciously offered him $100K to be a PR man for the Browns when he could have easily offered him nothing.

Brown, you are a legend but that doesn't mean you need to be involved with the day-to-day operations of the club in the 21st century. Take the $100K, go to these ceremonies and enjoy life. Instead he comes off as a bitter old man.

I have yet to talk to anyone that sides w/ Brown on this. Hurl Bruce nailed it above.

Cleveland fans are not in JB's corner at all. If his playing career was more recent, he'd have some support. But he played so long ago that the new generation of Cleveland fans aren't too familiar with his contributions as a player. His association with Art Modell works against him, as Modell will forever be despised.Bigger picture, this team is still headed in wrong direction. At 0-2 after winnable matchups, now they'll get slaughtered by their divisional foes. Holmgren returning as coach next season won't be the solution. They have no talent on offense other than their o-line.
