Not guilty verdict in on white police officer who stood on hood of the car and fired 15 shots at 2 unarmed black occupants. This on top of the Tamir Rice shooting.. I could see Cleveland having some problems tonight...

A judge ruled Saturday morning that Cleveland police officer Michael Brelo is not guilty of two charges of voluntary manslaughter in connection with the Nov. 29, 2012 police chase and shooting that ended in the deaths of two people.

Cuyahoga Common Pleas Judge John P. O'Donnell said that while Brelo did fire lethal shots at Timothy Russell and Malissa Williams, other officers did as well.

O'Donnell also concluded that Brelo was not guilty of the lesser included offense of felonious assault because he was legally justified in his use of deadly force.

Brelo, 31, was one of more than 100 police officers to participate in a 22-minute police chase, and one of 13 who shot at a 1979 Chevy Malibu. The shooting ended in the deaths of the driver, Russell and the passenger, Williams.

The Michael Brelo verdict: Not guilty of voluntary manslaughter

Cleveland police officer Michael Brelo was found not guilty of voluntary manslaughter in the deaths of Timothy Russell and Malissa Williams after the extended police chase that end with 137 shots fired by police in November 2012. (Video by Dave Andersen, NEOMG)

Prosecutors argued throughout Brelo's month-long trial that when other officers stopped firing, Brelo jumped onto the Malibu's hood and shot straight down at Russell and Williams. Those actions, they argued, were unreasonable and went well past his duties as a police officer.

But defense attorneys said Brelo had reason to fear for his life, and was justified in his use of deadly force because he and other officers believed that Russell and Williams had a gun and had fired shots. They also argued that if the 12 other police officers who fired shots were justified in their use of force, so was Brelo.

Five police supervisors who were either directly involved in the chase or supervised it to some extent have been charged with dereliction of duty. A date for that trial has not been set yet.

Eh you ran from the cops for 22 mins where 100+ shots are fired. This is ignoring whatever crime set off the chase to begin with.

When (not if) you're finally stopped, if your action is anything other than empty hands out the window in surrender, then you kinda have it coming to you.

It will take a few days for the professional rioters/looters to make their way to Cleveland. There could be trouble Monday or Tuesday night.

They need time to carjack/loot the vehicles to get there then rob gas along the way.

The 100+ shots were all fired by police when they were finally stopped. The couple in the car were unarmed.

The Cavs could be clinching the ECC Tuesday night. Plus the Indians have a home game that night. Could be a recipe for disaster.

it will be interesting to see if Major League Baseball does in Cleveland what they did in Baltimore, playing in front of an empty stadium. The five people with Indians tickets will be pissed.

You can charge 170 bikers for capital murder because they were at the scene when cops gunned down nine of them but you can't convict a cop for gunning down two people in a car because other cops also shot them.

Makes sense.

Not quite the same thing

So because you couldn't identify the guy who fired the fatal shots (of 137), everyone gets off with clean hands?? Nice job perk.
