Cleveland's lineup is awful (1 Viewer)

Outside of Sizemore and Martinez they got nothin'

look at today's lineup:

Sizemore career .280 guy with an OPS about .860

Jamey Carroll

Dave Delucci an aging career.260 hitter who doesn't draw wals like he did in 2005

VMart - this guys can hit but where'd the power go?

Ben Francisco - who? 26 yo rookie. Maybe he'll pan out to be serviceable

Travis Hafner - D O N E

Ryan Garko - he's striking out less (94k in 484 Ab's in 2007 which is pretty bad), but he's also hitting a lot less)

Abdrusal cabrera - career ops = .684

Casey blake - 34 and having a putrid year thus far

some guys not in the lineup

Peralta - decent hitter

Overall I see:

No stars that strike fear into opposing pitchers

a couple of good bats in Vmart and Sizemore

a decent bat in Peralta

a collection journeymen and rookies like you'd expect in KC, Pitt or Washington

some guys that are easy outs or starting to look done(Cabrera, Marte, and Hafner,Blake)

Dayn Perry's #1 team in his power rankings for the first week of the season.

You can yawn all you want. It's was laughable. You think they were the best team in the league at the beginning of the season?

You think a team that won 96 games and was one win from the World Series the previous year, shouldn't at/near the top of the next season's rankings? Talk about laughable.

Of course they should be near the top...no doubt. I would have had them at #3 or 4 at best behind the Red Sox and the Tigers. The Sox won the world series and stayed intact but somehow he had them at #2 or #3. There's a general rule with rankings, when someone wins and stays intact or gets better, they are the favorites going in. I like the Indians I just think they overachieved last year.

I don't like the Indians at all and I'm sure the Indians faithful here could address this better, but I like their line-up. Is it flashy? No. But they have two premium bats in Grady and Victor, one with a lot of pop if he can straighten his game out in Hafner, solid guys like Garko and Blake at the corners, and guys with upside in the middle IF with Cabrera and Peralta although both have looked pretty bad thus far.

They have some issues at the corner OF spots but Choo might be able to help there and David Dellucci has given them some good fill. They do have OBP issues and that is a problem but I like this line-up and what it can do on a good day.

You like this lineup?Who do they have that can fill the 3-hole?If they put vmart at 3, who's in the cleanupOutside of VMart and Sizemore, their offense is garbage.when your options for the 3 hitter have an OPS around .750, you are in trouble

This "awful lineup" was one game away from probably winning the World Series. Simma down. They don't do anything spectacular, but they work well as a unit - working pitchers, taking base hits, and seem to come up big in the last three innings more than most other teams. This is a good team with a couple of weak links, no team is without it's soft spots.

Although the Pronk signing is shaping up to be quite the blunder.

the heart of the order today is

3 Francisco

4 Garko

5 Hafner

:lmao:

followed by Gutierrez .244, Shoppach .235, Carroll .185 and Marte .091

If Marte DOUBLED his average, he'd still be below the Mendoza line.

awful

If they could reverse a couple of their recent blunders, this coud've been the lineup

1 Crisp CF

2 Sizemore LF

3 Martinez C/DH

4 Phillips 2B

5 Kouzmanoff 3B

6 Garko 1B

7 Peralta SS

8 Hafner/Shoppach DH/C

9 Francisco/Gutierrez RF

You can't get Crisp back and still have Shoppach listed. But even with the way you have it, I'm not sure why Shoppach would be platooning with Hafner at DH regardless of how Hafner is performing now.Phillips would have never amounted to anything much in Cleveland, let alone a clean up hitter. He's a classic case of scenary change being needed. He was a cocky headcase here and butted too much with Wedge and others. Maybe it's the fault of leadership, but he still needed to go. The Tribe got a potential back end bullpen arm out of that deal.As far as KK goes, the minor league system is deeper at 3B than at 2B and that doesn't even have to count Marte, hence the trade for Barfield. But I can see your point there. One thing you should not rule out is their plans for moving Peralta to 3B, Cabrera to SS and Barfield back to 2B in the majors. And this might happen sooner than you think. Defense up the middle becomes VERY VERY good with this move, although that doesn't really address your premise of hitting. The bigger recent blunder is Hafner's contract. If these listed here are your biggest blunders, I'll take them.

What would they have to give up to get somebody like Garrett Atkins?
Probably a package that is highlighted with Laffey or Adam Miller. I'd be suprised if Shapiro trades either one of them with CC and Byrd off the books soon. Regardless, he is very tight pocketed with his pitching (and who can argue with him on that?). I don't think Sowers has much trade value and he can't trade Lee right now (the player just about everyone wanted shipped out of town for Jason Bay during the offseason). If they bit on a deal for Lofgren, I'd say Shapiro might pull it.

I meant that When VMart DH's, Shoppach would play C from that spot in the lineup --- regradless, if they get Crisp back just put the backup catcher in that spot.a Peralta - Cabrera - Barfield infield would complement the GB pitchers very well.
