Climate Change -- Landmark report issues dire warnings (1 Viewer)

My wife and I have been mostly vegan/plant based people for 7 or 8 years now.  I won't go in to linking articles and what not, but factory farming is probably the biggest stress on the environment.   So much food and water is fed to these cows and chickens, these animals require so much clear land, their waste and fertilizer used ends up in all our water ways and oceans, etc...

The thing starting to take off now is this lab grown/cultured meat.  If that industry can take off in the next 3-5 years That will solve a ton of these climate issues, IMO.  Will it take off?  Who knows.  I've lost desire the eat the fleshy meat either way, but my guess is the typical Joe, if given the option, won't go for the lab grown stuff.   Its supposedly faster and cheaper.   What would take a chicken 6-7 weeks to grown in a poultry house it would take 6 days to grow that meat in a lab.  It seems like an incredibly promising industry.   It takes 9 calories of food to get 1 calorie of chicken. That's not sustainable.

Drive down any rural road in Mississippi and there's 5 or 6 huge poultry houses on every other corner.  Those places smell to high hell.  Literal tons of chicken #### every day that gets washed back into the soil and eventually the water.

All the water wasted on growing these factory farm animals can go elsewhere, or at least help out with some of these drought stricken areas.

I see some major promise there.  Probably more of a 10-15 year timeline though.

CEI is largely funded by energy companies, but I’m sure that’s just coincidental to this “article.”
Even worse, some of these groups forward their agenda to lawmakers...who are so lazy that the same agenda typos can later be found in law proposals.  We get what we vote for.

not necessarily related to global warming, but on the subject of environmental impact...I can't get over how much trash we produce. it's just my wife and I, and we produce a couple bags a week. now factor in the families of 4, or 6, or 8, or more. that's a huge amount of trash that we just pile up, week after week, somewhere on this earth.

and along those lines, we have to do something about unsolicited junk mail. credit card applications, mortgage refinance offers, personal loan offers, advertisements...and nothing that I asked for. just killing trees to print it, and then moving it directly into a trash hole. doesn't make any sense.

In 20 or so years or so we are going to be stunned at the amount of useful resources we wasted.  Landfills will be gold mines.

Compost it.  At least feed some worms.
