Clinton Portis Interview (1 Viewer)

I'm at work and can't listen to the mp3  Can anyone give some quotes, etc. from the interview? TIA.
He is all team first. He won't throw Betts under bus, he won't throw anyone under bus. He takes it himself. He is pissed at BM because he always ribs on Clinton for being soft, etc., and Portis tells him how it is. Portis said he wanted to be in there, but he said Betts was capable of getting in. The best part was, was Portis said I always want to play man, I was by the coaches, you saw me by the coaches. I ain't down the other side hiding, I want to go in. But, at the same time is was Ladell's chance, and who is to say I would have got in. I would have loved to have the chance, but it just wasn't meant to be. That is the best part of it. But, when you get a chance it is a good 18 minute listen

consummate

professional

anyone know where there's vid/audio of him taking responsibility for the loss? I only see stuff from Gibbs on the 'Skins website.

Portis is about as far from being "soft" as anyone I've seen in the league the last few years. And he's one of the classiest guys too.

granted that fumble was probably his fault, but did anyone see him dive after it? it was probably about as dangerous as diving into a pool of razor blades and sharks, just utter disregard for injury b/c he knew he just possibly fumbled away the game, now scares me a little with him on my fantasy sqaud, but at the same time gotta respect it, dude plays hard, one of the best blocking backs in the league, i can appreciate that...-eagles fan

In watching the game I agree with the NFL scoring that the fumble was Campbells' fault. The ball was never put where it should have been.

Portis has always been a class act. The dog fighting comments I dont think were meant to support Vick as much as he was trying to say its not uncommon and in the rural south its sport.

The craziest thing about the whole "why wasn't Portis in" thing is................ serious, its Mike Sellers that should have gotten the rock. When your down on the goaline and you got a guy like Sellers who is clutch in the redzone (feel free to pull out the stats) and is a 250 Ib + beast, at worst hes falling forward.

I'm all for giving the biggest guys with good feet the ball near the goal line. Some may bring up MJD, but MJD IS big when you look at his ht/wt ratio , his legs look like giant drum sticks on his 5'7/8 frame.

Even MJD though got runner up the Greg Jones. With lighter faster backs its hard to gain a head of steam over 3-5 yards hence why I think weight and momentum are your best friends on the goal line.

Its not a matter of fault. The QB will be given the fumble because he was the last to actually have possesion.

That was my point exactly said in a different way.

Truth. If Portis isn't going to get it, you gotta give it to Caveman. There's a blurb from Wilbon this morning in the paper where a current NFL linebacker states that nobody wants to see Sellers running at them and wonders why the Skins are underusing him.But for this coaching stuff, it might be a bit much to ask them to reason thru such personnel scenarios in critical situations. We're lucky if they can get one play in to the huddle, that they then instruct the team to run twice.

In terms of Sellers and the goaline, if you are within 1, MAYBE 1.5 yards - and 2 yards MAX, then you can consider sellers.

However on the first failed Betts attempt they were at least 3-4 yards out if I recall. He stumbled forward a bit and the last run could have been sellers - but you are stupid not to have Portis in regardless. The D will key on Portis more than any other weapon they have which would have helped Sellers in the first place.

@PantherPower

I heard the interview live via the sportstalk980.com stream and Clinton did slip in the F bomb during his rant that isn't reflected in the transcript of the interview. I guess the John Thompson show producer hit the dump button in time and the non-FCC compliant word that I heard on the internet didn't go over the air and was subsequently edited out of the mp3 clip that is available on the sportstalk980.com website.

To be specific, when Portis says "If I didn't want the ball, I wouldn't be on the field", he really said "If I didn't want the f**king ball, I wouldn't be on the field." Listen to the mp3 you can kind of make out the edit.
