Clinton Portis Trade Value (1 Viewer)

Sorry if a Honda already, but I need to know what his trade value has been in keeper leagues. It's been hard to gauge due to slow recovery from injuries and Betts strong finish to 2006.

Please give examples of offers. The league is 12 teams, keep maximum 3 players, standard scoring & non-ppr for RB's, starting 1 QB, 2 WR, 2RB, 1 TE, 1 PK.

From the little I've seen, most people really will lowball for Portis now; due to his injury history and the performance of Betts. Can't blame them really.

However, Portis owners should not overlook the liklihood that with another year with Saunders as offensive coordinator in WAS, the 'pie' for the RBs will grow quite a bit (look at KC a few years ago) and that even if Betts gets a bigger slice in 07, Portis could get a bigger slice as well. More pie to go around...

Other than last year - Portis has been quite reliable I would say... but I concur that many have a short memory and will only look at last year's (and the offseason knee issue also) and drop him too much, too quickly in my opinion...We're talking about a guy that had an overall ADP of 3 just 2 years ago... he's 26! (although alot of mileage for that age!)

I am glad JayMan posted the stats. I was about to do so, too. I am of the opinion that Portis is a question mark at this point in his career. In Denver, everything came easy. He had fewer carries and more yards, ypc, and TDs. In Washington, the number of touches is so high tha I worry about his longevity. I look for more seasons like 2004 going forward. On the plus side is how young Portis really is. We forget tha he is still only 25 years old (turning 26 in September). But, my gut feeling is that we will never see production like he had in Denver.

I have had POrtis in a 2x 10 team keeper league over the last four years. I just traded him away for Picks 3.2 & 6.2. Admitedly i gave him away a bit cheap I tihnk, because I think he still has top 5 talent. I was just so tired of watching the Skins play.

The biggest thing is that Skins rush attack. 2300 yards last year, top 5 overall, and was on fire the 2nd half of the year. Betts posted 5 straight 100 yard games, and all this without Portis most of the year.I wouldn't be surprised to be 2,500 yards and 22 tds from the Skins ground attack this year. That offense is nirvana for RBs, and we're about to be them start putting up huge numbers.

Betts averaged 4.7 yards per carry last year.... imagine how a healthy Portis will do!

Seriously, Portis is unlikely to get over 320 carries or average 5.5 ypc, but if he gets his career low in carries (outside of his 8 games last year), and averages the same as Betts (who is not nearly as talented.... c'mon) did last year, Portis gets about 1300 yards rushing. His career low receiving is 216 yards (he was on pace for 340 last year), and you have 1500 yards.

I don't see that as his absolute floor, but I personally would rank those stats at the bottom of his likely range this year. IMO, only injuries can hold him back.

I have a question about keeping Portis and instead of starting a whole new thread, I'll do it here. Advice is more than welcome.

I'm in a 12 team standard scoring keeper league. We keep 1 player at the cost of a 1st round pick. There's one week left until I have to declare my keeper.

It's safe to assume that LT, Johnson, Jackson, Gore, Alexander, Brown, Manning, Bush, Addai, Jones-Drew and Maroney are all going to be kept by their owners.

Basically I'm debating whether or not I should keep Portis, or to drop him and see if I can do better with my first round pick.

We select our draft slots after announcing our keepers, so if I keep Portis, maybe I'll take a pick at the bottom of round 1 and then hope for McGahee or someone like that at the top of round 2.

So, what do you guys think I should do?

Didn't Saunders say that Portis would've made the Pro Bowl if he hadn't gotten injured, the way that offense started to click once Campbell started at QB?

Yes, Campbell with half a year under his belt and a helathy Portis should be pretty nice. I think Portis will do well this year, but more from a Skins fans point of view than a Fantasy Football side. That said he should drastically outperform his draft position. Some mocks have him 15ish RB off the board....

The way I read that, that's 8 games, 693 yards and 7 TDs total. IIRC, he played about half the game in weeks 1 and 9. While I won't totally discount those, it's worth noting. That ends up roughly 100 yards and a TD per whole game. Even if we count each game he played in, that's 87 yards per game and .8 TDs. And this is before Campbell improved...I understand that Betts plays a role here, but even in the 6 games Portis played most of (9/24 to 11/05), Betts had 231 rushing, 135 receving for 60 yards per game. for around a 1/3 - 2/3 split. Do we really think Betts will get more than that this year? If he's the #15 RB drafted, assuming Peyton is in there and maybe a WR or two, that means a team is going to have Addai or Westbrook + Portis?
