Closers, Closers in waiting, and Middle relief...... (1 Viewer)

David Carptenter gets the save for Kimbrel who missed tonight with "shoulder stiffness"
Just to clear this up, its being noted as "normal soreness" and he's day-to-day.
"Kimbrel said that the sore shoulder is no big deal and that he'd be good to go in a few days. However, it's never a good thing to hear about a sore shoulder, nor is it wise to rely on a player's diagnosis."
and Jordan Walden may be the better guy here

Full disclosure: I added Walden, but I don't expect anything to come from it. If the team isn't even concerned enough to have it looked at, I'm going to assume he's telling the truth.

I know he ha 2 cheesey wins the past couple days, but Johnson still deserves to be rostered, rght? Think he'll close again?

Bastardo has started off poorly too.
He has walked too many guys and isn't striking out as many as normal, but it is 7.1 innings and he has only given up 1 hit.
My home league is very speculative on closers and has eight owners from the Philadelphia metro, and no one has him. Seems a bit strange to me.
Papelbon has a long leash. I took a flyer in TREleeg on Mike Adams who will be activated tomorrow. If he has anything left at age 35 he'll be helpful in the peripheral categories at least. ####### Ruben Amaro is paying Adams a lot so maybe that will be a factor after Papelbon implodes. I'm ignoring the fact that Adams only has 4 saves in almost 400 MLB appearances because it doesn't fit my narrative.
Adams has reportedly lost even more velocity than Pap. I really wouldnt expect much.

Jansen with a 14/3 K/BB ratio thru 7 innings but a 4.50 ERA and 2.00 WHIP. Throwing 98 mph cutters. This is all just a blip right? Nothing to see here. Good buy low IMO as he has 2 BS and 1 L in 3 weeks.

(04/15/14) Blue Jays pitcher Casey Janssen tossed one inning in his rehab debut Tuesday with Class A Dunedin, as part of his recovery from a back injury. He tossed a scoreless inning as a starter, allowing one hit and striking out one batter before coming out of the game as scheduled.

The team has not made the next step for Janssen known at this point, but he will likely appear in at least a few more games in the minors.

He looked nasty last night in spite of the blown SV.

Article from a couple days ago. Indicated he would have 3 rehab outings before being ready to come back. So maybe in time for Monday the 21st.

Also important JA Happ news.

Ken Giles (AA) had a great spring, throws 100MPH, and has 14 K's in 6 innings thus far if you're really looking to roll the dice.

Gas can Valverde comes in with a five run lead and gives up two runs and three hits. I have to drop him, I can't take this abuse.

doing the same.

Not sure what it takes for these managers to figure it out though. Smokey did it, now Collins. The guy is useless once the save op is gone.

Rotowire - Uehara

Uehara (shoulder) threw a 34-pitch bullpen session Wednesday and will be available to pitch Thursday, the Boston Globe reports.
Spin:
Uehara had felt some discomfort while out on the road last week and flew back to Boston for evaluation. Tests were negative and he's thrown a couple of times this week, including Wednesday's session in the pen.
