Coaches or Offensive Coordinators tendencies (1 Viewer)

With all the changes to the coaching staff I was looking for stats that would outline the head coaches or Offensive coordinators tendacies and whom it would most likely impact.

for example ....

What will paytons conservative playcalling do to horn and stallworths numbers?

Will Martz make Roy a top 5 reciever ? WHo fills the holt roll? does this mean Faulk like #s for KJ?

What about Jeuron in Buffalo will willis be a top 5 back

What about Houston?

Basically what im looking for is overall player stats under these respective coaches

I penned an article on the coaching changes for the FBG magazine and we'll be doing something similar in the coming weeks for the site.

But you are getting at the heart of the matter for fantasy owners: coaching tendencies.

Sometimes this can be overblown (for example, Rod Marinelli is a defensive mind who will almost certainly hand over the reins completely to Martz) but other times can very much impact the overall fantasy landscape (think: Bill Parcells and/or Herm Edwards).

Herman Edwards is the most interesting example. While in New York his Jets were notoriously conservative. Most of the initial blame fell upon Paul Hackett, his first OC. But even under Mike Heimderdinger, the Jets remained very conservative and a run first, run second, throw third type of team.

In five years as head coach in New York, the Jets ranked:

2001 -- 26th in passing attempts
2002 -- 24th in passing attempts
2003 -- 24th in passing attempts
2004 -- 29th in passing attempts
2005 -- 24th in passing attemptsThat was regardless of how the team's running attack fared (it ranged from 3rd best in the league to 2nd worst over that five year span).

With Edwards replacing #### Vermeil, you have to wonder whether the Chiefs offense will remain as productive in the passing department. Larry Johnson seems well equipped to handle 25+ carries a game; Edwards will want to win games that way and, most importantly, Mike Solari doesn't have the OC experience to put his own stamp on the team (he'll defer to Edwards conservative nature IMHO).

Nyj - I dont know anything about these new coaches

KC - LJ + But Gonzo - and Green -

Oak - Jordan +

Det- KJ + and Roy+ but Pollard -

GB - Green +

Minn - Dont know anything about these guys

Saint - Horn - but Duece +

Stl - Jackson +

I believe the real value in studying coachs or OC tendacies is determine what the 2nd wr option is whether that goes to the TE or wr#2 as well as what the third down option is ? Do they swing the ball out the Rb or go with a 3 wr set.

These changes can make huge differences in middle tier players

Other things to consider...

1) First-time roles...regardless of whether a coach is the next Vince Lombardi, it stands to reason there will be a learning curve generally and a fairly steep one at the outset of their career. This is further exacerbated when both the head coach and coordinators are first timers in those roles.

Teams facing this issue in 2006 (on offense):

Denver Broncos -- OC Rick Dennison -- Impact should be minimal b/c Shanahan continues to run the show and he's brought back Mike Heimerdinger (an accomplished OC in his own right) as assistant head coach
Detroit Lions -- HC Rod Marinelli -- Impact is TBD. Obviously Marinelli is a defensive guy and will give Mike Martz quite a bit of autonomy on the offensive side of the ball, but Marinelli is still the head coach and could shape critical run/pass decisions or philosophy (witness Herm Edwards or Bill Cowher as examples)
Green Bay Packers -- HC Mike McCarthy and OC Jeff Jagodzinski -- The good news is both are former Packers assistants. The bad news is both are ascending to new levels, which means 2006 is going to have growing pains.
Kansas City Chiefs -- OC Mike Solari -- Potentially significant b/c Edwards is a defensive guy and conservative, which leaves Solari calling the plays as a first timer. Solari will retain the same system, but he's no Al Saunders (or at least we can't count on him being as good, particularly in his first season as OC).
Minnesota Vikings -- HC Brad Childress and OC Darrell Bevell -- For as much as like the hiring long-term, 2006 could be tough for Vikes fans. Childress is a first time HC and Bevell a first-time OC. Combined they have virtually no NFL play calling experience; and are installing an entirely new offense to boot.
New England Patriots -- OC Josh McDaniels -- Impact should be minimal as the position was vacant last year and Belichick will continue to drive that train. McDaniels simply was promoted from within.
New Orleans Saints -- HC Sean Payton and OC Doug Marrone -- Much like the Vikings situation, I can't see how 2006 comes off without a hitch given their collective inexperience. Payton has play calling experience, but he had that role taken away by Jim Fassel in New York and was part of a committee in Dallas. Marrone is very green for an OC.
New York Jets -- HC Eric Mangini and OC Brian Schottenheimer -- Not to be age discriminant (I'm 31 after all) but this duo has to give Jets fans some heartburn. Sure, Mangini is part of the "Belichick Tree" but not every branch is going to bear fruit. Remember that Marty Mornhinweg is part of the Walsh tree :X . Mangini is a young defensive mind which is why the team wanted to keep Mike Heimerdinger as OC, but instead they bring in Schottenheimer, who has not only never called plays but never been an OC before. Expect a pretty ugly first year, or at least an uneven one.
St. Louis Rams -- HC Scott Linehan and OC Greg Olson -- Another first time duo (Linehan as HC, Olson as OC), however less troubling than some of the others because of Linehan's considerable play-calling experience on multiple teams.
