So my wife just walked over to the fridge, pulled out a piece of cold cheese pizza and started eating it. She does this with fries, and a few other things that I just find strange. She genuinely likes it cold. Will do that vs. microwaveing it for 30 seconds. Cold pizza is disgusting to me. Like eating some food left out in a dumpster or something.

Just curious what the general consensus is here...

microwaved pizza is worse.. if i'm in a hurry, i'll eat it cold, if not, I heat it in the oven for proper crispiness

I prefer pizza that is left out, in the box, on top of the oven the next morning. I'm not a huge fan of cold pizza, but I'll eat it and like it.

Sounds like your wife and I have a lot in common.

This. If you don't have time to pre heat the oven and eat it that way then eat it cold. Microwave pizza is really nasty.

True. Microwave is no friend to pizza. If there is no time to heat it up conventionally, then cold is the way to go.

My ranking:

1. Fresh made pizza - Hot out of the oven - 10/10

2. Room temperature pizza - Pizza left out overnight, but still in the closed box - 9/10

3. Pizza reheated in the oven from last night - On a baking sheet so the crust will crisp-en up - 8/10

4. Cold Pizza - From last night and was in the fridge - 7/10

5. Microwaved pizza- Disgusting - 1/10

I voted Yes, Awesome, but included it in #2 above.

After about 4 hours, food left out starts to grow bacteria like crazy. Enjoy your post-breakfast runny doodies.

Official rankings:

1. Fresh pizza.

2. Oven re-heated pizza (it seems to change the flavor slightly and I love it).

3. Cold pizza (refrigerator version)

4. Room temperature pizza.

...

99. Microwave pizza

100. Cold Pizza (ESPN version)

Totally agree that microwave is gross...but I'd microwave before I'd eat cold. Surprised at the cold pizza love here.

Do toppings matter?

Cold pizza is fine in a pinch.

But you microwavers need to shoot the lock off the wallet and get a decent countertop pizza oven. ~5 minutes in one of those and you have crisp crust and melted cheese.

What about Mystic Pizza?
:lmao: The funniest thing about that is that they couldn't shoot the film in New Haven and appeal to women, so they moved it by the sea…with thinner crust.

It's a CT thing, if I sound a bit weird. (New Haven, CT, pizza is legendary. Never heard of anything pizza near Mystic.)

eta* Apparently aside from Mystic Pizza, which is comical.

I never ever ever put pizza in the fridge and have never had an issue.
If I ever eat some sketchy food I just make sure to mix in some extra booze to kill off any germs

When I lived in Texas, I would order my pie, than when I got home, i'd put slices in the oven on tinfoil. Crisped them up like east coast pizza. It wasn't exactly the same, but I always felt like outside of the east coast, the crust is like a dough ball.

I've never had an issue. And it's yummy as all ####.
Mythbusters should do an episode on this but I think pizza is salty/acidic enough to slow down bacteria growth for longer than 4 hours. I've never heard of someone getting sick from eating pizza 8 hours later.

Wait...I saw a place called Mystic Pizza at Mystic Seaport in CT...is this not the actual place?

ETA: didn't see your edit. Yeah...that place. Lol.

There is a place. It's lame. New Haven is the place to get pizza in CT. It has Pepe's and Sally's and Modern. It's sort of internationally known and Zagat-rated.

I was just goofing, like I have been the whole thread.

I never met a pizza I didnt like. Microwave, Dominos, Pizza Hut, I dont care. Of course some are better than others, but I dont hate any of the options.

Adding those to my "to try" list next time I'm up that way visiting my buddy in RI.

We had some awesome pizza on our way up to NH for Skiing at a random hole in the wall in Troy, NY called DiFazio's. So good. I love local pizza gems.

You can eat it two DAYS later.

Reheating in a skillet can provide a nice crisp crust in much less time than preheating the oven.
Your ideas are intriguing and I'd like to subscribe to your newsletter.
linky - updated since I last read it.
Love doing it on the stovetop, use a small skillet with a tightly fitting cover and give it 5-7 minutes on low.

Another professional vote for it.

C'mon, it was a ton better than that Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless garbage First Take.

Put a glass of water in the microwave when you heat it or I have heated it in a skillet and is a good choice
