Cold Turkey (1 Viewer)

goodjobcosjobs keep it up!

I used to chew. Went to New Zealand and they didn't have ANY, little did I know. That's how I quit.

Nice job to all quitting something in here! Nothing tougher than kicking this stuff, I've heard the addiction is similar to heroin but I have no experience with that. Either way stay strong & hang tough, you're on the downhill side now & then the mental battle kicks in big time. Really need to find an oral substitute of the cigs and especially the chew (kicking that was harder than the smokes for me). Like I said, I chew a #### ton of sugar free gum, works for me, find what works for you but be careful you don't exchange one addiction for another.

About 6 months after I quit we were on a booze cruise for work and just got obliterated. That night at dinner I bummed a smoke, fired up and damn near gagged. Tasted like licking an ashtray, haven't had a craving since. That was 11 years ago, stay strong guys. You vs your mind, teach it whose boss.

Quit a 3-pack habit cold turkey around 20 years back. Biggest thing that helped (first of 2 things) was having something for the "oral fixation". I bought a box of toothpicks and would chew one every time I wanted a smoke. Still have an occasional toothpick. Helped immensely. The second thing was that my wife (since divorced) was also a heavy smoker and was nagging me every day to quit with her. What I did was quit without telling her when I was going out of town for a 3 day work trip. Came back and told her I'd quit. Damn b____ was just using me to justify her own smoking. We divorced a couple years later and she never once tried to quit. I did make her smoke outside though. It was great in the wintertime. :excited:

Good luck!!!

The hardest part was the things I used to associate with having a dip - like late night sports watching, road trips of over an hour, while doing yard work, walking the dog, playing golf etc.
This is identical to my list. I guess we are all in the same boat. As a matter of fact, wifey is away today and I am sitting here all day watching sports and getting ready for the NFL games. I would be through a tin by now...5 days and counting...

The Christmas lights are calling my name...they want to be taken down. Somehow it's much less appealing in 35 degree weather without having a dip. FML

I've heard the addiction is similar to heroin but I have no experience with that.
Can't speak for the smack; but i kicked a severe powder habit some 15 years ago ... cold turkey, and right to the curb.Smokes ... not so much. More addictive for sure. I've also stopped drinking for extended periods ... longest was 6 months ... but the smokes are a ball and chain. Man, morning coffee without one just doesn't seem plausible.Congrats and god bless to those who have kicked the tobacco  You have my respect.

Thanks guys.Feeling really achey and irritableI hate everything more than I usually do
Cos, I'm doing e-cigs. I don't care if I'm addicted to nicotene (stand in line, nicotene). So far so good - I haven't stopped smoking regulars yet but I've smoked about 1/3 of what I would have. I went overboard on toking the e-cigs yesterday, which made me dizzy. It isn't the same as regular smoking, but it helps.

My oldest brother had a 35 year cig habit ... now he is exclusively on the e-cigs, and he swears by them to the nth degree. I tried them about a year ago, after a nasty bout with bronchitis ... my pulmonologist had 'em for sale at the reception desk.Said each cartridge was good for 300 puffs (roughly the same amount as a pack of 20 smokes), but I found the pull really dissipated after maybe 40 or so drags. Had to increase my pull, which led to slight dizzyness. Didn't mind that so much, but I felt like I was getting raked after only 1/10th or so of usage. Not satisfying enough.BONUS: did bust 'em out on the subway/at bars ... no resistance or complaints.... maybe I just got the wrong brand

6 days for me - no physical addiction, just a LOT of activities that would have been perfect for a dip...pretty sure it's all mental for me.

What brand of e-cig?Been fine since Jan. 1 except for one day when I had a ton of beers. Could not resist. Thinking an e-cig may be what I need for those instances.Like a migration pattern when I drink. Have a few drinks then go outside for a smoke then repeat. The ritual nearly as hard to break as the nicotine addiction.

Last smoke and drink I had was New Year's day around 8pm. I hope to quit smoking for good and introduce drinking back into the mix (in moderation) starting in February.

So far so good, but heck I am less than 48 hours in.

GL to everyone cold turkeying it
Day 8 and going strong

I'm using greensmoke.com, DW. By far the best e-cig fit for me. Agree on the ritual/routine being at least as hard as the chemical addiction (for me, it's harder).

Thanks guys.

The bolded is correct. I'd check out the e-cig thread to get a better idea of what to replace real cigs with. I'd start towards the end of the thread though as all of us were just starting out and had similar experience to yours. Eventually many of us "upgraded" to a much more satisfying product.

Yep, saw it bumped earlier ... researching all opines up in there.

I once walked the entire length of Caye Caulker, Belize looking for a tin of skoal. All the stores were owned by Asians who spoke very broken english and all they carried were hand-rolled cigs. You should have seen the looks on their faces when I tried to explain to them that I wanted to put the tobacco in my mouth and chew it. :lmao:

Day 10 - Nicotine take that :boxing: Cos and JB - Update? You guys hanging in there?
Freaking trying. I had a chew I think Saturday night (last week).I need help or I'm going to strangle somebody

I'm about 64 hours in. This is brutal. I'd quit for two years, and picked it up again. I'm drinking tonight, so this is extra tough.

Updates guys? UH, Bender et al?

I went out to several places tonight but it was after 8pm and couldn't find my Kreteks. I am completely out, that hasn't happened in a long time. II only smoke 2 - 3 packs a week at the most, but when I want one ...I REALLY want one. Had to stop the vodka tonics tonight that bring the cravings on.

I made it until around Thanksgiving then buckled over the holidays. So 11+ months of no smoking (zero, I mean not a one, not a puff) but unfortunately back to a pack a day :bag:
